I am thinking about remodeling my kitchen because the look is outdated and not very functional (house built in the 50s). Does anyone have any good referrals?

What can I do next?

For your cabinets and appliances I recommend Reed Plumbing Supply in Oakland. We remodeled about 6 years ago and saved around 800 on commercial SS stove, Bosch dishwasher, sink washer/dryer. They have all upper end brands.

We redid our kitchen and bath before moving into our new house last year. We love our architect and our contractor - how many people can say that? Randy Shirbroun - SpectraForm Design ###-###-####) - is the architect. Ting Yu - SPE Construction ###-###-####) - is the contractor. If you decide to do a smaller job, Scott Meadows ###-###-####) is another fabulous contractor we use frequently at my office.
Good luck.

I highly recommend Toshie Lim for design (www.wacworks.com) and Rebecca at Paragon Remodel for the construction (www.paragonremodel.com). I recently redid the bathroom and kitchen at my home in Rockridge. It was a big job - relocate the bathroom, gut and enlargen the kitchen and add a family room. We did it in 2 phases and the 2nd phase started when I was pregnant with our second so I was nervous about timelines. But they pulled it off beautifully - finishing ahead of schedule and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Good luck and have fun.

If you plan to put in granite counters, I highly recommend Artistic Stone in San Leandro: http://www.artisticstoneinc.com/. We shopped around, and this company has very competitive prices and installed our counters within a week of giving us a quote. Btw I am not affiliated with them in any way.

I've just put my son into daycare and am looking for a few jobs to fill in before I go back to my career in a large architecture/design firm. I have my degree in Interior Architecture and Design and although I work in commercial architecture now, I have worked for residential firms that specialize in kitchen and bath design.

I have a portfolio online that shows some of my past work. www.erinowes.com

I have a friendly modern aesthetic myself, but feel it is most important to honor the architecture of the original structure and create a space that functions well for the user. I also try and incorporate green and sustainable materials when possible. All of my contact info is on my website.

I highly recommend Macrae Builders for any type of home remodel. Brian and Lilly MacRae, the husband and wife team who run this full-service contacting business, oversaw all aspects of our 6-month home renovation in 2007. From the bidding process through the final inspection, the MacRae Builders were clear, honest and timely. (And the stakes were high, because at the time of our remodel I was pregnant with our second child and needed to know that the agreed upon time line was realistic in order to finish before the baby arrived!). It was a real pleasure to work with them. And all of the work was completed with care and attention to detail. The work that their crew did, as well as the work of all the “subs” they hired, was great. And we really appreciated that they were able to “trouble shoot” or come up with creative solutions when the challenges of melding existing construction with new construction proved tricky. We love our new and improved home, and are always getting comments from friend and family about how great it is. MacRae Builders can be reached at ###-###-#### or on the web at www.macraebuilders.com.
