Hi Moms,
Has anyone out there tried laser hair removal, and what were your results? Is it worth the cost?

Thanks!

I had mixed results. The facial hair was somewhat less after buying a package, but not significant enough that I was willing to continue. The bikini line is fabulous after (I think) 10 treatments. I'm looking forward to wearing a swim suit bump-free.

I've had it done on my upper lip and chin area. I'm pretty fair complected and have really dark hair so I was told I was a perfect candidate. I underwent 6 treatments (what I was told at first would be the maximum needed to take care of the pesky whiskers) and I did see results. However, I still have enough hair where I am self concious about it so I have since gone back for another treatment and am trying to find the money to go back again. Last time I went I was shocked to find out that treatments may not do that much for me moving forward as my hair has started to gray which means the laser won't detect the folicle. YIKES! So my advice is get the treatments done before you start graying too badly. (for me this happened MUCH sooner than I had anticipated at 27!) Of my 7 treatments that I had done I only experienced 'problems' after one treatment where I had some reddening in the area which lasted for a couple of days. Other than that I was red and puffy for about an hour after the treatments which wasn't too bad. For me it was definitely worth the cost just because I was so self concious about it. I'm thinking of starting treatments on my underarms next.

I did laser removal on my under arms and bikini area in 2003 or '04 (cant remember). It was worth every cent I paid for it. Just check out the company you choose to do the procedure- I went to Permanent choice (www.permanentchoice.com) as they seemed most well trained, most professional and most convenient (tons of locations). Good Luck if you decide to go forward :-)

it depends ont he person! but i have done underarms 9which is typically a great area for laser removal. it cleared my underarms for the entire summer with one session. typically you need to do 5 or 6 sessions. i also did chin and lip and it make a huge difference. one really uimportant thing to note is that pregnancy really affects your hormones/hair growth; so you really should wait til you are done having kids or you may need to repeat session!

Hey J.! I have not had laser hair removal but a good friend of mine has and says it's totally worth it. She got a package deal and said that's the way to go. She did say it is pretty painful but that it only lasts around 10 minutes or so and then isn't so bad. It's one of those things that by the time you have your next treatment you've forgotten how painful it is. She said she'd do it again in a heart beat. Different spots on your body take different amount of treatments. I think you have to go back a few times for all areas of the body. She said it's the greatest feeling to not have to shave any more!!! Ever! Good luck with your decision!

I have had laser hair removal on my chin (yuck, I know)and it was truley worth the money. The cost was $300 for a year of treatment and the amount of appointments was unlimited. As far as the results, I am happy as the hair is considerably less. I do have some "regrowth" but it is not as bad as before. I do have friends that have had laser treatment on their armpits, toes, and bikini lines. They are all extremely satisfied with the results. Hope this helps.

I have also been thinking about doing my armpits and bikini line (I have dark hair and fair skin), so I am glad you asked the question.

For those who have had it done, does it hurt?

I had my upper lip and chin done a few years back.......unless it's darker hair I don't think it's worth the money. Mine was too light and fine and the woman told me that AFTER I payed and it wasn't working! And I payed something like $1000! Check out at least a few places if you decide to try it. Maybe they have greatly improved in the last few years.

i've done laser hair removal on three different areas, bikini, arms, underarms. i absolutely love it. i am planning on doing my legs next. it is soooo worth it. i have loved my results. it can take a long time to complete. so, make sure you buy a package with a guarantee. they usually say it takes about 6-10 times to remove all of the hair. i have gone much more than that. but, with a package and a guarantee, i go until i'm done--no matter how long it takes.

good luck!

Hey,
I havent tried it but I had a friend that did. She is of greek heritage and well to put it the best I know how quite hairy. She went to get her mustache removed. She had a little darker complexion and the hair was quite dark. The woman that gave her the treatment said it might be a little more painful for her cause she has a darker complexion, it's better if you are light skinned but also that the hair is dark (it doesnt work that well on light hair). She went for I think 11 treatments and to tell you the truth.. I dont see a difference, she is very disappointed with the experience and very upset with the amount of money she spent on it. I dont know if it just didnt work for her or if it's normal but from what I have seen I wouldnt suggest it.

Hi, I had laser hair removal on my eyebrows and bikini line about 30 years ago...didn't complete the bikini line but haven't had to do anything with my eyebrows except an occasional wild one since then. It is expensive and just one time doesn't usually work to "kill" the hair root, esp. in areas that are particularly tender. Hope this info helps.

I currently use laser hair removal. I have PCOS so I have a lot of hirituism. It works great. You do need to be consitant though. If you stop and start it doesn't work as well. I know from experience. I went through American Laser Centers (there is one in Edina). I like them because they have a two year "after treatment" plan. You do the treatments and then if you have any hairs come back in the two year time you just go in and they take care of it. It may be different now, but make sure the place you go to offers those type of incentives. Also, they run specials all the time so check for them as they can save you big money! I have done electrolosis and laser and I definatly recommend the laser! It hurts a little, but it feels like someone snapping you with a rubber band.

I was very happy with the outcome of my laser hair removal. I did the bikini area. After years of trying shaving, waxing, and using creams and everything in-between; laser hair removal was well worth every penny to me.

I did laser on my bikini and my sideburns. It is not pain free but it is maintenance free and is not as uncomfortable as a bikini wax every six weeks. It is expensive and works best for those with dark hair/fair skin. If you're looking at doing this summer, you can get a better deal because they are slow in the summer - however, you cannot tan! If you skin color changes, the results won't be as good. I bought packages of five treatments each and that seemed to be enough however, I then got pregnant and am now nursing a 6 month old. Hormones play a big part in this and I see a little growth in my sideburns but it's much thinner. I can't do anything about it until I'm finished nursing. Moral of that story is that if you're thinking about having another baby, wait on the laser or you'll have to do it again.

I have done laser hair removal for my underarms. I still need to shave occasionally, but because I have black hair this has been a huge improvement for me going from shaving every day and never getting a "clean" looking shave to maybe once a week. I still have a touch-up session that I need to do and that will probably help too. It was absolutely worth it and I would do it again in a second. Next I am going to do bikini line. I would love to do legs, but the tech told me that those sessions are an hour + each time, and as my biggest issue was getting child care for the appts (you do have to make appts within a certain timeframe to catch the hairs in the growth phase) I don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon. I didn't think it hurt any more than waxing.
