Laundry Detergent Recommendation for Infant Blow Outs! :)

OK, so either I've completely blocked this from my memory, or my 4 mn old daughter has super staining blow outs! lol :) I swear she knows when she's wearing white & even better, when it's a new outfit. Without fail, she has a blow out. I've tried using the plain OxyClean Stain remover spray to pre-treat, put my laundry cycle on cold, heavy soil, & stain cycle & it still comes out with the nice mustard yellow stains. When I put her in the outfit again, daycare thinks she just did it & changes her outfit. So, any suggestions on what has worked for you?
Also, I just heard on the radio today about Arm & Hammer with Oxy Clean Plus that is only available for a limited time at the local wholesale stores (BJs, Costco). I was wondering if anyone has tried it & would you recommend it?

I've found Dreft stain remover works really well. It's the only stain remover I use for the whole family. Also, my friend swears by Baby All as a stain remover. Good luck.

I've used pink laundry bar soap. Zote soap works really well. Just hand scrub the stained spot with water and the soap. You can let it dry with the soap still on it and wash it later. For me, this method has worked way better than any of the pre-treatment sticks or gels.

Soak in a bucket with hot water and Oxyclean (Oxyclean will not work in cold). Works great on poop stains!

A.,
I know when the babies are little, lots of people prefer to use Dreft or other baby detergent. I used Dreft. Since then, and for normal washing, I have always used Tide w/Bleach Alternative. If a stain was really bad I'd pour a little extra Tide right on the stain and throw it in as usual with the load. I've never had any staining issues with that routine. I don't use anything extra--Shout, Liquid fabric softener, etc. Just the Tide w/Bleach Alternative. You can always re-wash in Dreft after the stain is out...
Oh! My grandmother used to SWEAR by using Lestoil in the washer for bad stains. Good luck!

Goodness Gracious I hear all you ladies using bleaches and toxins in your home how about a stain remover that is safer for your home and your kids anybody intersted? There is a reason why there are skulls an cross bones on that stuff they are toxic! I have a stain remover that is green meaning environmentally safe that if your baby swallows it their stomach doesn't need pumped. I'd love to educate all moms on better and safer products for their home. There is a store to shop at for these things and you will all save money. I'm sorry A. I just get fired up when I hear people using Mr Clean on clothes and then putting them back on their kids. My stain remover is Sol-u Mel and trust me once you buy it you cannont live without it. Anyone interested in greener products let me know.

Kids are always testing our laundry abilities!! Have you tried Biz? It is a laundry additive, a powder that goes in with your detergent. I soaked my kids clothes in it for a few hours or overnight and then dumped the bucket into the washer. The other suggestion I have is that if the outfit if white, you can use a Q-tip and put bleach right on the stain and then rinse it really well. Good luck!

first of all make sure to soak it before you wash it. let the stain fighters sit on the outfit before you wash it. another thing that may help is the oxy dawn. I put it on the clothes whenever we get a stain and let it sit on there until i wash it. remember to always wash it in the hottest water possible. another thing do not dry the outfit if it still looks like a stain is still there. once it is dry the stain may be set in. try peroxide and baking soda and see if that helps. may be try the peroxide and baking soda to begin with and see if it helps. I know peroxide is good for protein stains like blood. good luck.

Target & Toys r us are the only places that sell it now, its like 3.00 a bottle, but worth it. my 8 month old has blow outs as well, i dont rembmer my other kids being this way. i spray the dreft on and then put oxiclean powder in warm water and let it sit overnight and then i put the rest of my laundry in and wash. works everytime.

If the part of the outfit that is dirty is all white, you can just soak that portion in bleach water and then rinse it well before washing the outfit.

I have used a combination of bleach, color-safe generic bleach, shout, and All detergent and it has really worked well... but what I will tell you most is... do not dry it with heat in the dryer until the stain comes out entirely... the heat will likely set in the stain... always let it air dry first, if the stain isn't out, try a new mixture of alternative (including hot water) until the stain comes out and before you use heat to dry the item.

Oh, and sometimes, just really soaking and rinsing the item with hot water before washing will help!

GOOD LUCK!

Hi I have had the same problem with my daughter. What I have found that works is I spray with Zout and then I soak the outfit for a good 24 hours in Oxy Clean Baby. Then I wash the piece of clothing. It does not always come out but most of the time this works. Hope this helps

My advice would be to change diapers. The ones that fit my 4 month old best are Luv's. If you stop the leaking you won't have to worry about stains.

I use Spray N Wash on all our stains and it works great, even if they have been dried in.

I suggest trying BIZ,(soaking in it)-BIZ which is expensive, but my mom has recommended it for years.

If they are whites, cotton, I soak my kid's in bleach. With encopresis, we've had plenty of times for that, only I've been getting scented, which is a little nicer, considering the circumstances.

Hi!

Try this....before placing the soiled clothes in the washer, rub the spot(s) with Sunlight Dish Washing Liquid and if necessary, a few squirts of Spray & Wash or Shout (not to much, though, to avoid the harshness). It has worked for me and I hope it works for you!!

Good Luck!

I had the same issue with my son when he was little, and now even that he is 2 1/2, I still use my usual detergent, but i pre-rinse all his "stains", use shout or greased lightning, and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse and repeat as needed. Good luck!!!

I immediately soak in cold water and then rub in some laundry detergent, and soak again. I try to make sure the stain is basically out before I put in the washing machine. That helps, but I haven't found anything that works 100% of the time.

Hi A.,

We had the same problem and my sister told us that she used the powdered Oxyclean. You just have to dilute it in REALLY HOT water and let the clothes soak for a while. Sometimes, if they were really bad, I would dump out the old water and soak them again. It's amazing how that stuff works. Only a few things were beyond the Oxyclean. But that got out about 90% of the blowouts we had with our two kids. Hope that helps and good luck!

Dreft makes a really good stain spray. I even use it for my clothes. It takes out formula stains, urine, and poo. You have to rub it in after you spray it on for tougher stains, but I have only had it not work on something once which was smashed in carrots. It came out the second wash though. Just don't dry the item in dryer if stain is still on it and rewash. Good luck.

Hi A..

I swear by Shout stain remover. We've not had many blow out's (knock on wood), but shout has done a great job for me. And if it's something white, I use shout and then bleach in the wash. Not sure if bleach is recommended for a young baby, but I've been using it since my daughter was 2 mos old and have not had a problem. I've also found that I have a better chance of removing the stain if I hand wash the item in cold water right away. I know, that's not easy to do with a 4 mos old.

If it is breastmilk poop, just lay the stained cloths out in the sun for a few hours....they will go away. not sure if this works for formula feed babies though.

I know you have a lot of responces and I don't know if someone already said it but hang it out in the sun and the stains will be gone. My son had the same problem and almost all of his clothes were stained. I washed them and hung them out in the sun to dry and the stains were gone. It works for all kind of stains, even baby food carrots.

Hi A.! I sware by shout gel. I have gotten just about any kind of stain you want to talk about out with shout gel. All you have to do is rinse off the solid ucky stuff and put the shout gel on. You don't even have to wash the item right away! In fact it does work better if you leave it to soak in for a while. Colors, whites...from 2 yr old set in formula stains to black grease stains on oxford shirts...I've used the stuff for over 15 years now and won't even look at anything else! Good luck!

To be perfectly honest, I had several outfits at this age that I never got the stains out of. I would buy his clothes used and just pitch them if they were too badly stained.

I also cloth diaper and have had some luck with sun-bleaching, but there have been times when nothing, nothing I did made any difference, and my time is worth more than a $.50 onesie. Pitch!
