Laundry. .. How Often

I caught a segment on a t.v show the other day and a lady who is married with 5 kids stated she does 4 loads of laundry every day..?!? FOUR loads EVERY day. I find that ridiculous. We have two adults, 2 kids in our home and I do 3-4 loads, once a week. Thats it. We use a bath towel two days, everyone showers or bathes every day, sometimes twice a day. The wife has work clothes and the kids have the clothes from school. But 4 loads a day for 7 people sounds crazy.
How much laundry do you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok..... so obviously I'm shoving too much crap in my washer once a week LOL. I don't know I just like the once a week thing. And we do occasionally have a load or two during the week.
I understand everyones position, all valid.

About 2 loads a day. The thing is, we are always behind. There are always accidents and messes, and then there are the linens. Sheets and pillow cases and mattress pads for 7 people. Bananas.

My older ones are doing their own, but there's still the towels and wash rags and all such as that.

I do 2-3 loads most days. But then I've got 3 teenagers who change their clothes as often as they change their minds. We also use a towel only once before it gets washed. Too many bouts with foot fungus (2 wrestlers, 1 gymnast).

I average 2 loads per day- that being said, there are some days I don't do any and there are some days I might do 3 or 4 loads. I have 4 boys and a husband who works outside doing manual labor (and he gets DIRTY!).

Hey Jimbo!

We have 5 in our family. I do 1 load of dark, 1 load of light everyday. So 2 loads per day. Its not always completely full, but I prefer it that way, the clothes get cleaner and less wrinkly if its not completely full. I like to stay on top of it and not let it pile up.

that's a lot of laundry, but I think it depend on their age - if under 5 or even if two are under 5 - that can add up.
Especially if using cloth diapers, etc.
I would HATE it, but it is definately feasible.
We are a family of four and even with hubby and I's workout gear, I do about 8 a week.- including towels and sheets, etc.

We are family of 3. I do at least 1-2 a day.

I wash a lot of towels, we don't re-use. Daughter and I use 2, 1 for body, 1 for hair. I keep blankets, sheets, etc washed at least weekly.

Most all the clothes for daughter and myself are in the hand wash cycle of the washer and hang to dry. She is a cheerleader so I have cheer clothes 1-2 times a week.

I am married with three kids (9,6,and 9 months). I do about 2 loads a day. I can ABSOLUTELY see why a mom with 5 kids would do so much laundry. Say each of her 5 kids plays 2 sports...which seems to be the norm. She has soccer, baseball, football, track...whatever. Right there that's about 2 loads. You have kids that throw their towels on the floor, you have a husband that may have a dirty job, you have kids that drop food on themselves. I am one of 5 kids. My mom was constantly doing laundry.

We do a ton of laundry and there's only three of us. Adding in animals adds to our loads. Their blankets get washed almost every other day.

The four year old "diva" of the house likes to change his clothes a lot and sneaks his clean clothes into the basket. Sometimes I catch him but most of the time I don't so it all gets rewashed.

I HATE reusing towels so there alone adds to additional laundry.

I have two kids and two adults and do about a load per night. My oldest wears a uniform and we didn't buy enough to have one for each day so on at least two school nights I have to wash uniforms. Then when you add in bathing suits and beach towels, plus our bath towels and three sets of bedding, it is about a load per night. I work full time so I prefer to do one load per night rather than try to get it all done on the weekend. I do bedding weekly unless one of the kids has an accident (one year old and 5 years old) and we use our towels for two days as well.

I do our main laundry once per week. There are less dirty clothes in the summer time, but during school and when it's getting cooler out - when we wear jeans and sweatshirts etc - I do 6 loads per week. 1 whites, 1 lights, 2 darks for kids and 2 darks for adults. Our bath towels are in the whites load. And I do addtional loads as needed for kitchen towels and sheets.

That sounds like my sister’s house. She does that much laundry too. There are only 3 of us in my house now. I would say I do about 3 loads twice a week. I am not one to separate our clothes so each person is one load. My daughter wears a uniform to school and I just keep it on her after school, why create more laundry. I wash the towels and sheets once a week. I change the towels every other day and the sheets once a week. There are times when I may need to do the wash more often but not usually.

I do 1 load everyday. My oldest son has special needs, so I have to do his bed sheets, blankets, & PJ's every morning & put them on sanitize setting. That may be a little much but he is tube fed at night and I hate the formula smell, if even a little leaks, drives me crazy. Then I do 3 to 4 loads every Tues. and Fri., plus my sons load. ( I have 3 kids)

I can see it. I have four kids and average two loads a day. Then you add sheets, etc and there ya go. The bigger the kids, the bigger the clothes, plus you have to think about teens and sports uniforms and P.E. clothes and sweaty clothes from workouts.....the list goes on and on. Piles up fast. Yup, 4 loads really isn't bad.

We have a family of 4 (one baby who spits up!) and I could easily see doing at least a load of laundry per day if I did it daily, so a family of seven, I would think they would do AT LEAST four loads per day!

We, too, reuse bathtowels twice before washing and don't wash something unless it is dirty. As a family of four, I do about 7-9 loads of laundry each weekend.

My husband I both work jobs where "business casual" is acceptable (mine more casual than his), so we wear washable clothing every day. However, I have women in my circle of friends who are college deans, attorneys and executives, they wear dry cleanable suits, slacks and dresses to work.
We have a high schooler and a middle schooler. I run wash once a week, on a weekend day. I don't do laundry during the workweek. I probably run 8-9 loads and my 16 year old does her own laundry , a load or two. Not all of our loads are full loads, I run some small and medium ones like all black clothing together, we don't have tons of whites, I may have a few "delicate" tops that need to be done separately. My kids wear everything once before washing, but I'll wear a pair of pants twice and I don't change after work. My husband often does change after work, but he'll wear those same jeans the entire week. If he stayed home, he'd probably only use two pairs of jeans for the week.

There are only two of us, my daughter is 18 and had been doing her own laundry for years. We both take turns on towels and rugs as needed but I could go weeks without doing laundry because my work cloths need to be dry cleaned. That's the one chore I really dislike anyway....just the taking it upstairs part.

I'm with you, 28 loads of laundry every week seems insane to me. We've got 2 adults & 2 kids & we do 4-5 loads a week MAX. Even if we had double the number of people that would be a maximum of 10 loads a week & with 7 people in their household, they've not quite got twice as many people as us. Granted, I do have a super-capacity plus top load washer & dryer & I pack those suckers pretty good sometimes, but hey, it works for us! ;)

My husband does all of our laundry, our kids are older (15, 12 and 9) so they put away their own. He only does it once a week also, I believe about 4-5 loads, basically a load for each kid and one for both of us, and he puts a couple towels in each of the kids loads. I don't understand why someone would have so many loads either.

2 adults and a toddler. I do laundry between one and three times a week. It depends on if it is the week I am washing the sheets or how many clothes my toddler went through or what time a year it is (light summer clothes vs heavy winter clothes that take up more room)

If I had a washer and dryer I would probably do a load every other day to keep up with my 3 boys but I don't so I do laundry whenever I can. Right now I have 2 loads of laundry that I washed this morning sitting in my hall waiting to go in the dryer after I get out of work. I have to catch the washers open any chance I get. I really hate apartment living.

I have a family of 8. I do maybe 10-12 loads a week. I do all sheets/towels on Monday, and try to do the rest on Tues, but sometimes need Wed to finish up if my Tues is hectic. I iron everything on Tue/Wed nights. Yes, pretty much everything but socks and underwear. I have a large capacity washer, so that helps a ton. We were visiting friends once, and it took four loads in her washer to do what I do in one load in mine. So, that could make a huge difference.

There are so many factors here.
We have a high capacity, biggest front loader we could get at Sears a couple years ago.
We are a family of 5. Myself, my husband and a 10,7 & 2 year old. We make up at least a load or 2 a day easy in my big machine during the winter when we're all wearing jeans, sweaters etc. I can sometimes go 2 days before I have a full load during the summer when we're wearing shorts and tank tops and sandals so no socks. Our bed alone is 3-4 loads because it's a California King. 1 for the mattress pad, 1 for the comforter, 1 for sheets and pillowcases and 1 for pillows. We only use a towel once,it often becomes the towel for the floor for the next person (which I hate but there you have it LOL). There is nowhere in the tiny bathroom to hang 5 towels anyway, it would look terrible in there! We all use fresh washclothes each shower too (no way I feel clean using one that's been hanging there overnight!).Plus of course kitchen towels.
As my kids get older and their clothes get bigger I can fit less and less per load in my machine.
I guess the short version of my long story is, yeah, I can see how you could do 4 loads a day for a family of 7. Size of machine, size of clothes, do they have uniforms for school then change when they get home thus having 2 sets of clothes a day, do you or your huband change out of work clothes when you get home. So many factors, I can totally see it!
I feel like I do nothing but laundry. Washing, drying, hanging, folding, putting in drawers, finding, sorting. I threaten to have the whole family join a nudist colony so I don't have to do so much laundry.
