I am looking to purchase one of those game systems for my 2yr old this year for chirstmas. Last year we bought him the v-tech baby smartridge system. He didnt like it and it wasnt that great of a toy. This year I am hoping to make a better purchase but first I need some buying advice. He is only 2, but already knows how to use the computer and mouse. I am looking for something thats not only educational, but can grow with him as he gets older and has backyardigans games. He loves the backyardigans.

Thanks for all the help,
T.

Oh please don't invest in this just yet. Yes, we live in a technology age and eventually all kids will need to learn the computer, but those hand held video games are so bad for developing brains. Most have warning signs that they may cause seizures. #1 We're teaching our children how to be entertained and they lose the ability for imaginative play which is so important at this age. Until about age 7 when children are learning to read, their left and right sides of the brain do not connect. It is not until they can skip while swinging their arms in opposite directions of legs that we can see when the brain synapses have learned to cross the bridge. #2 we are also teaching our children to be lazy.....hence the whole tv and obesity problem. Please do more research and try old-fashioned games for the brain. Like counting marbles, hand rhythm songs and building blocks. If we force the academic side of learning before their brain is ready, you develop a child with inabilities to handle their emotions and how they see their world as a whole. I do recommend the free Publix CD for children . I have it at home and in my classroom, the children love it and they learn from it.

This may not be exactly what you are asking for, but my grandson just turned 3 last week. Last year for Christmas my daughter bought him a Smart Cycle. He had just turned two. After Christmas, she thought that he might be to young for it & was going to return it. He is with me all week for about 11 hours,& I thought that we should give it a try. It hooks up to the TV & there are different games. He not only could do it, but he loved it. He also got alot of exercise with all that pedaling. This year for his 3rd birthday, he got 2 more games (one is for ages 4-6)& he is having fun while learning. Good luck!
