I am sorry A. but I have to say, I have 4 children from ages 4-14, I have dealt with the lice issue more than I care to. The first thing I suggest is going and getting a store bought lice treatment because those old home remedies DO NOT WORK!!!! DO NOT FALL FOR THEM!!!! Even if it was a trusting family member that told you about, and I have heard of some crazy methods but this one is new to me!!!

You didn't mention using the nit comb to make sure they are all released from the hair shaft. You can buy those individually in the stores next to all the lice treatments. Mayo is suppossed to help the nit loosen up, but I think you should still use the nit comb to ensure they've all been removed. Good luck, it's such a pain, isn't it?

My mom had to go to the chemical method, as she was treating 4 girls at home who somehow kept transferring it back and forth. Then she used the nit comb, but it didn't work very well in their hair. She actually went out to buy a different kind -they have metal and plastic - and found a flea and tick one for dogs - much CHEAPER! and it worked wonders. That's the key- get those nits out!!! I work in childcare and they teach us in the classes to stay in a hotel after traeting the hair - stay out of the home for AT LEAST 24 hrs. The lice and nits can't survive off the human much longer than that. Then go back and retreat and vaccum like CRAZY! Furniture included. I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I know One of my sisters shared a locker with a girl that kept bringing it back to school. Keep her hair up- they don't like hairspray or mousse, since they can't glide through it very easily. Just a few tips. Check the cdc website for more oprtions or call the pharmacist. Oh and I would blowdry both during and after treatment JUST IN CASE!

Hi A.,

I hope what ever method you used with the hair dryer last night worked. I'm glad you are using the alternative method instead of the chemicals. I used a homeopathic treatment that I got on ebay called LICELESS when my son got lice. He hated me picking the nits out so it was easier to just shave his head since he's a boy. There are some other cool things on the market at the Drug store that I believe work. One is a colored mousse that you put in the hair & it makes the nits stand out so you can see them easier. One of my friend's daughter used this along with the LICELESS product that I let her use. I will call her today & see how it went & what worked & will get right back to you.
