Is anyone a memeber at Lifetime fitness? Do you like it? Do you children go? Do they like it? Do they have classes for younger (4yrs old) children?

So What Happened?

It sounds like there are very mixed reviews. Thank you all for sharing. I know that a couple of gyms offer 7-day trials. I think we will probably check out a couple first. What about Mays YMCA? Thanks ladies.

My husband and I have been members for several years. Even when it's busy, there are still plenty of machines to use. The child care has never been a problem for us.

If you live inside 1604 (and even if you don't) you might want to check out Triton Sports Center at Thousand Oaks and Henderson Pass (ph ###-###-####). A have friends that are members there and love it - daycare too. They are drastically expanding the facility and adding a bunch of new features. AND THEY'RE REALLY INEXPENSIVE! I signed up yesterday and got my family of four for under $100 with tax per month. If you stop by, ask for Juan. He will give you a tour and tell you about all the exciting things that are coming up.

the area where I live has a lifetime fitness and a ymca.
People that have joined lifetime fitness have cancelled and gone to the ymca.
I have heard that it is too expensive ,too crowded (esp.with high schoolers who use all the good equipment).
That might just be in my area.
My lifetime fitness is always busy which means always crowded. I know they do have a daycare there ,but a;ways do your own checking.
Good luck and welcome to Texas.

Yes, Lifetime Fitness is terrific. We belong to one in Austin, Tx and absolutely love it. My daughter is 6 and looks forward to going there. The child care center offers them plenty of things to do and I bet there are classes for your 4 yr old too. Even if you put your daughter in the child care center, which you get 2 hours each day, she will find plenty to keep her busy. I have been ecstatic about our experience with Lifetime. It really is a terrific family atmosphere and great for everyone.

Yes & No! My husband and I love LTF...but our son who was 18 months when we started never liked it. We would get paged everytime we went within 10 minutes. So, my husband and I started going separately...it didn't work out since we love hanging out together as a family. The pool was good during the summer, something we could do with our son. Once they stopped paging us and upon our return they told me my wild toddler had not moved from a corner spot on the floor! This was not typical of him so we quit going, he just wasn't diggin' it.

I, too, am a member at Lifetime and love it! My kids are twin 6month olds, so I do not take them yet as I am not overly impressed with the infant side of the kids care, however, we have great friends that are there all the time and they say that kids 2 yrs. and up are perfect ages for the kids care because of all the fun activities they do. I highly recommend it based on what I have heard from others! Also, some of our dear friends' daughter works there, Erin Martin, if you need any help or any questions answered feel free to contact her--she was a big help with us when we joined!

We belong to the Lifetime South and love it. The baby (6 months old) has been going to the infant care room since she was old enough (3 months). Because the trainers and employees have their kids at the child care center I feel like the child care givers are more invested in the child care itself than they otherwise might be. The gym itself is very family friendly, which I like. As for being crowded, I wouldn't know. I don't go during peak times and I don't use the machines; I go to classes only. Still, for a family with small children, this gym is great.

We used to belong to the YMCA but the one in Oak Hill is so old, dark, and small that my husband and I never went (only our oldest teenage son used their gym). The pool is teeny (my husband likes to swim) so we never used it. I'm sure there are better YMCAs in town (the one on 183/51st St is great!) and, yes, it's less expensive, but the Y does not offer everything that Lifetime does.

We love Lifetime. My kids love it. During the summer (and year round) they have tons of classes for kids. Even 4yo. They are sport camps and adventure days. You pay for them, but a discounted rate if a member. It is pricey for a gym, but they have lots of ameneties. The pools are great. They offer lots of different classes for the adults and fantastic cardio and weight areas. It is always clean. Since you are new to being a SAHM have you joined any SAHM groups? Feel free to contact me and I can steer you in the right direction for that.

My sons were older when we started (like 4 + 6) but they always liked it. In the summer though, I would either go early at 8:30 or after 11 as the mornings in childcare were crowded. They did like it. It wasn't perfect but you'll run into things you don't like at any gym. They have so much workout equipment that I have rarely had to wait. I enjoy it but it is bit of a drive for me so I'm not sure how long I'll stay.
