Hi,

I have been looking for some cute cut to shape kinda cake ideas for my son's 1st birthday. I want to make his cake, and I thought it would be fun to do some fun design, but I'm having trouble finding many ideas with instructions on line. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions of a book I could look for?

What can I do next?

When my ds turned two we made a car cake I found in a magaazine. All you need is one standard round cake pan, make cake according to directions. Then when its cooled and ready cut the cake in half and turn it on its side so it looks like the body of a vw bug. We iced it, stuck on oreo cookies ofr the wheels, different color icing designed into windows, fruit loops for headlights and taillights. You can use your imagination with different candies for different parts of the car but you get the idea, it was a huge hit and was pretty easy, the best part was that I didn';t have to buy one of the expensive fancy shaped cake pans to make it. YOu could try kaboose.com and familyfun.com for more cake ideas.
Good luck and Happy Birthday to your little one.

A friend of mine did a 3-D bear cake. REALLY cute, but a bit of work to decorate it. I can send you a pic if you want.

i have done this for every birthday in house, so what i do is i decide on a shape or theme, and then look for that specifically, either a cut or shaped pan, or just a design to try drawing on a regular shape (my son had a tractor shaped pan for his first, and we drew a thomas train scene on a rectangular cake for his second, etc) i found this method to be a bit easier than trying to sort through books or countless pics/instructions online of cakes i really had no interest in =) good luck
