I have Crohn's Disease which has been out of control lately (after 2 yrs of remission) and I am in need of a GI specialist in this area. I haven't consulted with one since I moved to this area so I welcome any recommendations you may have.
Also, if there is anyone else managing this condition please let me know. I would like to know how you handle it while keeping up with a busy lifestyle.
Thanks!

I do not have any experience but a very good friend of mine gave me who she uses and another Dr in the same practice that she knows someone else uses. She has been very happy with the practice.

Gastrointestinal Associates
She uses Dr. William Buser and knows someone with very bad Crohn's that uses his partner Dr. Mavec.
The number is ###-###-####.

Hi - I've been living with Crohn's for about 20 years now. I see a great GI in Overland Park, James A. Mavec. He's been treating me for the last 10 years or so. I also went a long time without problems and then, bam, it got me good! I tried the Remicade treatments, but they didn't really work for me. And they're very expensive and time consuming. I was put on a huge dose of prednisone, just to get it under control at the time, and then switched over to Mercaptopurine (6MP). I also take Nexium. I had a huge problem with low levels of my basic nutrients at the time. I was so wiped out all the time. I was also anemic. I've been very lucky in that I managed to get it under control, and then I don't have too many problems. The biggest being the constant trips to the bathroom. He prescribed a medication to help with that, but it made me feel very nauseous. I've lived with the bathroom urgency for so long now, that I decided I would rather handle that than being so sick feeling all the time. As far as handling it, I had to realize that I needed to carve time out for me to be not feeling well, and turn things over to other people. I just didn't feel like doing anything for so long. Luckily my work was very sympathetic and gave me time when I needed it. My husband and kids knew not to expect too much from me. At the time I told Dr. Mavec that I wanted surgery again just to get rid of it. I was so tired of dealing with it all, but he talked me out of it and now I'm much better. I hope you have good results. Good luck! That was very wordy! If you would like to e-mail me, please do. ____@____.com.
