Looking for a Good Pediatric Opthamologist in Tomball/klein Area

I don't know a good opthamologist, but if he needs glasses don't try to go cheap. Babies are very difficult to fit properly, so please go to Holders Opticians on 2020 FM 1960 West. ###-###-####. I have been using them for more than 20 years and they are a family business. They really care, and might know of a peds opthomoligist for you.

I have an 18 year old daughter and a 5 month old son. I am married and my husband works offshore. I also live around 249/Louetta

R., We take our son who is 7 to Dr. Evelyn Paysee at Texas Childrens Hospital. We see her at the Woodlands clinic at Hwy 242 and I-45. Their number is ###-###-####. She may come out to your area. She is a fantastic Ped Opthamologist. My son had some muscle issues that were corrected with out surgery or eye therapy (which is $$$$ & we found optometrists really push for the therapy). He is in glasses b/c he is near sighted and has astigmatism (correcting his focus via glasses is what fixed his muscle issues), but 6 kids in his first grade class also wear them. I think b/c of early screenings,they are catching more near sighted kids these days. He has not had any probs with teasing. Also, people are putting fifth graders in soft disposable contact lenses, so most kids are in glasses for a short time. Check with your eye insurance plan about wear to get coverage on your glasses prescription. We have gotten them at walmart, which is reasonable. They also have very flexible frames that bend and don't break for kids. They can also thin the lenses and remove that "magnified" look so that they are more stylish. Try not to worry, I know how you feel b/c I worried too, but I am sure it can be cured. Our son has done fine. We love Dr. Paysse and her staff is great too. Oh, and she did operate on my neice who had crossed eyes (apparently this sort of thing runs in our family). It was about a 20 minute day surgery and she was completely fixed and she is not in glasses. Good luck!

Hi, we live in Cypress 290/Telge. My son was born premature and has worn glasses since he was six months old. It's ok if they need to wear them this young. I've known children who have worn contacts at six months of age.

I know you are in the Tomball area, but i would really suggest you take him to Texas Children's Hospital for a second opinion. Thier clinic is scheduled next to the hospital on Fannin St. They are great with kids and they have a very ggod doctors.

Hello, I know how you feel about the glasses my son also at an early age was crossing his eyes. We took him to get his eyes checked the doctor said he needed glasses. I was not trusting this doctor and pretty much had to force myself to go along with the glasses. When my sons glasses finally came in the lenses looked like bottle caps. Me and my husband felt bad for him and worried that he would get teased in school. But once in school he did not get teased he was only more excited finding out other kids his age also wore glasses and his teacher.

His eyes have gotten better over time every eye exam I take him to, his perscription reduces. in getting him his glasses as early as we did he may later in life not have to wear glasses.

I met a woman at a store one day who had the same problem with her eyes and now is wearing glasses but she had told me back when she was young her parents did not know that her eyes could get better in time and possibly be fixed if she was to wear special perscription glasses. This lady took off her glasses to show me her eyes they still do cross and she told me her doctor said if she was to have started with the glasses earlier at her age now she would not be wearing glasses.

I would not worry much about your son wearing glasses the only problem I have come across is constantly cleaning them because my son will were them even if they have a visible layer of film on them . I wonder how he even can see with them being so dirty . As he grows he needs new glasses that fit him this is not a problem at all he love picking his own pair out of the bunch they have on the wall. One decision we made with the glasses was having the be with the transition film on them. Being that his lenses are so thick the sun would hurt his eyes so now we always add transition to his new pairs. I would get those glasses as soon as possible.

R.~ My friend down the street has a 2 year old that has had the surgey twice. Are they having you patch the good eye? I can ask her what doc she goes to, if you want a second opinion. If you have any questions I can pass your e-mail along to her.

I don't know of a Pedi Opthamologist in that area, but I do go to Tomball college and in the Occupational Therapy assistant program there. I have several classmates that live in that area. I can ask them. Also, from my education so far toward being an OTA I have learned that it's best for kids to have glasses at an earlier age. It helps correct the problem earlier on and since they are still developing so rapidly it's seems like such the opportune time to do it,if they need it. There was a lady in my church that has a child that wore them. I don't think it will be forever, but I am sure it depends on the case.Good luck. Hi R....I use Dr.Miller at Houston Eye Assoc, which is probably the same doctor you used. I absolutely love him. I just took my 4 yr old there Wednesday for a check up. She has been wearing glasses since 2 yrs. and she is also farsighted...her prescription is +6.00 which is very farsighted. I was very upset initially, but 2 years later it has all worked out. My daughters left eye would turn in before glasses, but with glasses it corrects it. She loves her glasses and wears them all the time. I was concerned about her eyesight getting worse and the doc said that in most cases their prescription will get less as they get a little older and then later on it usually gets a little higher again, but basically said she will always wear glasses. My daughter is so adorable with her glasses...very cute. If your son needs glasses, I promise...it will be okay. I understand your concerns about other kids picking on him because I had those same thoughts, but I will tell you like my husband told me..."It's not the end of the world...it's just glasses." It will be fine.

My daughter got her father's eyes...farsighted and almost the same prescription. He started wearing glasses before the age of 5 also. The doc said this usually runs in the family, so I was wondering if your sons father or you have vision "issues"?
