Looking for Affordable, Adult Exercise Facility with Responsible Child Care ...

I'm a 33 year old mom with a 22 month old son. I haven't belonged to an exercise facility since before my son was born. I've basically lost all the baby weight, but now am down to that weight I needed to lose prior to pregnancy. During the spring and summer months, we were very active whether it be biking with the bike trailer or walking everywhere we went. Now, i'm in that winter slump of feeling a bit lethargic and not wanting to dress us both for brisk winter walks. I'm currently trying 24 Fitness - Lowry on a 7-day trial membership, but have had uneasy feelings about their child care. I'm usually too exhausted to workout in the evening (and too busy). Today I tried going at 6am (before my husband went to work), but I dont' see this as continueing very long...sleep is just too precious. Does anyone know of an affordable club with child care that they feel comfortable with which is also in the Central Denver vicinity? Regarding the 24 Hour Fitness Kids Club at Lowry, I feel like they just police who's coming and going...but don't pay much attention to the kids that are there. Last time I picked up my son (after 1hour 15 minutes) he was sitting along a wall, in the shadows, crying. I felt so bad! Maybe I'm expecting too much from a daycare in a gym, but I don't want to make my son miserable so I can feel better. I'd be interested in knowing what others do to lose weight, tone up and stay fit.

What can I do next?

I am not sure where you are located but Fitness 19 is very affordable with rates as low as $9/month Yes 9! I was a trainer at and had my daughter in the daycare at the Westminster Location. I knew all the people in there and I trusted them dearly. Fitness 19 is more of a family oriented club and they are very personal. Look them up in your area. Good luck!

Hi S.,
My daughter is 12 months old and we have been going to the 24 hour on Belleview ever since she was 6 months. We love the daycare there and they are very attentive to our daughter. Is there another 24 hour fitness near you that you would be willing to check out?

THe staff at another club might make you feel more comfortable. Besides the akward hours of the kids club, I have found them to be the less expensive choice for working- out and daycare.

Sincerely,
J. F

I also belong to 24 hour fitness and love it! My 2 girls, 4yrs & 6 yrs, also love to go to the kids club. I've been taking them there for years. I also think that you ought to try another 24 hour to see if their kids club is better. As for Lifetime Fitness I have a good friend who is an instructor there. I think she is very happy with the kids club. She has 3 kids, 4 months to 5yrs. I've researched this club and although it looks like a fabulous gym, I think it's kind of pricey. Good luck with this! Fitness is so important.

Hello S.,
I work for a Personal Training Facility here in Westminster. We are on 120th and Tejon... I have had personal trainers in Cali and each time I had someone like that in my corner I lost weight and became much more toner. I came to Denver and before I ended up in this job went to 24, I can honestly say I was not happy with the personal training svc at all; I felt like I was treated like cattle, "hurry and get through the workout" so they could get to the next client. Now I know this may sound bias since I am now employed at a personal training studio and I can appreciate that you may think that since I do wrok for one, but in all Gods honesty I only writing to you because I think that is just what the Dr ordered even if it’s not with us, find yourself a good personal trainer. Personal trainer work for various reasons, one there is an accountability to someone else now besides yourself, secondly a trainer can really guide you and motivate not to mention ensure you do exercise correctly to get the most of your time at the gym...
I also recommended you ask the trainer to speak to some of their clients as a referral, if trainer hesitates or refuses RUN, a good trainer will always let you contact a client for personal references.
So if you’re interested, we have pretty good comparable rates, not to mention child care, and group classes, so if money is an issue, we may have a work out buddies you can pair with, unless you have your own Best Buddy.
I hope this helps, take care...

I'm not sure about affordibility but have heard RAVE reviews about a new gym in Parker- I think it's called Life Time Fitness. I have a friend from Michigan who couldn't WAIT for it to open here... maybe worth looking into??

Hi,

I belong to 24 hour fitness and have tried a few different clubs with child care. I hated the one on parker and quincy they seemed not to care about my kids but the club on Hampton and Tower is great with my kids. My 3 year old looks forward to going to the gym to see "allison" she is the one who works in the child care. My 9 month old will cry when I leave and they are great with getting him to calm down and they don't call me back in there after 2 minutes of him crying like they did at the parker club. I would try a different gym to see if you like their child care better. The smaller clubs usually have the better child care since there aren't as many people working out in them.

We have been members at the Schlessman YMCA (Colo Blvd at Yale for a couple years. The child care room is right next to the cardio room (machines less than a year old), and they are attentive. In addition, you can sign your child up for classes and exercise while you're there.
