My frined is visiting from Atlanta and looking for a place to cut a child's hair. It's her son's first haircut (he turns 1 next week). Any suggestions? She is staying with her inlaws in Rochestor and I live in Royal Oak. A place near either will work. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We go to JR's for Hair. It is in a strip mall next to Once Upon a Child at Rochester and Square Lake. They have a room just for the kids and are great with them. My son loves Miss Christina and looks forward to going. Imagine that!

L.,

My daughter just took my grandson (17 months) for his first haircut. She went to Carnival Cuts at Great Lakes. She loved it and so did he. They are set up to be a fun experience for children and they make up almost all of their clientele. They have everything from merry go round horses to steering wheels at the chairs. She told me they even had a Disney movie playing. The children are happily occupied vs scared and the stylists are completely experienced with all the personalities children have.

Good luck and congratulations to your friend on her child's mile marker :o)

There is a place called "Sammys Salon" It is on Walton just North of Rochester High school, West of Livernois. (On the North side) It's next to Seros (restaurant) and it's on the 2nd floor. They have cute little seats they can sit in, movies to watch while hair is getting cut and very inexpensive prices!!

Their is a place called carnival cuts it is only for kids and is super cute. It was about 17 bucks (which I felt was expensive) for my daughters 1st haircut but the place was so cute and it was worth it for the pictures now I just take her to my salon with me. I went to the one at lakeside mall but here is the link for you I am sure they have one closer to you. www.carnivalcuts.com
Good luck

I have a friend who is a wonderful, Christian woman that is in a Salon in Waterford. That might be too far...let me know!

One of my friends cuts my hair and my 2 year old daughter's and she does not charge kids under 5 years of age. She has traveled and has been in a magazine. She just gave my little girl a hip, fun hair style that when it grows out it will still look cute and not as if it looks like she needs another trim. She told me to do it that way because their hair will grow faster. Any way she's in Birmingham at Red Salon on Old Woodward across from this fabulous play park for the kids. It's like by 15 1\2 mile. (otherwise known as Maple RD) Google it. Her name is Jacklyn Renee and if you go tell her N. sent you!!!!

I have heard that Carnival Cuts is a cute and fun place for kids. I am not sure where it is. I think Birmingham or Bloomfield Hills. But a lot of children in my daughters preschool go there. Best of Luck!

I just took my son to get his first hair cut last weekend at Pomponi's which is across from the Village's Mall. This salon was really great about cutting the little one's hair. The stylist worked really fast and did a great job and all for $10. It didn't have the little kid glitz like the place at great lakes crossing but I was more than satisfied at the stylist skill level.

I've been going to Upstares Salon in Royal Oak for years and Mariane is a great hair-dresser...However, when we got our son's first hair-cut we took him to a barber - it was quite the experience being in that 'man enviroment' - he got a gift certificate and sucker (we saved a lock of hair for the baby book too) - depends on what she wants? Good luck finding someone - if I was from the area i'd tell you the barber we went too - but i live in Waterford!

Kids Kuts is part of JR's for Hair in (I think) Rochester Hills. Let them know it is a first cut and they do some special things.

JR's for Hair/Kids Kuts is my daughter's favorite salon. Cute little boats to sit in, books, toys, videos, etc. Dairy Queen is next door if you need a treat after. It's on Rochester Road at Square Lake in Troy, ###-###-####.

It's a big salon with lots of stylists available, so you don't even need an appointment. I just walk in when she needs a trim and there is someone always readily available.

Try Renee at Renee's Hair Shoppe on Sherman in downtown Royal Oak. Renee's a mom of three boys and my sons both get their hair cut there. She's a very nice lady.

I agree with carnival cuts, there are quite a few in the area. They give you a cute little certificate that says "my 1st haircut and the date etc. They have cute little cars, animals, for the kids to sit on instead of a chair and they also have Tv's with movies to occupy the kids!

I have not taken my son for his first haircut yet but my friends all say Carnival cuts. They said that their kids were less freaked out by the experience. Good Luck
