Looking for Good Pediatrician and OB/GYN

We are moving to Evanston in one week. Can anyone recommend:
1. a good pediatrician for my 16 month old? Preferably a practice that allows you to waive certain vaccines or delay them. I believe in giving my child vaccines against deadly diseases but prefer to wait until he is older to give him vaccines that are not absolutely necessary because he is in no danger of getting the disease.
2. a good OB/GYN as we plan to have more kids in the future.
Thank you. I feel blessed to be moving to this amazing community!

My ob/gyn group deliver at northshore (previously evanston northwestern) Susan Ashby, Catherine Dillon & David Shaw. I just had a baby 4 months ago and absolutely loved them!! They are very friendly, understanding, and experienced.

My pediatrician also sees babies at northshore but we see her out of rush northshore. she has a couple different offices. Dr. michelle rose. I absolutely LOVE her!! Wouldn't take my babies to anyone else!!

GOOD LUCK

I would HIGHLY recommend Stefanie Shisler as an OB/GYN and Erin Garofoli for a pediatrician. They both work as a part of the Northwestern Group, which is now called North Shore Heathcare. They are right in Evanston, and are always wonderful to work with.

Hi and welcome to Evanston - sorry for the late post! I see others have recommended North Suburban Pediatrics and I just wanted to add that one of the great things about that practice is the convenient hours. We have been seeing Dr. Eileen Beaty there for 15 years. They open the doors for walk-in patients at 8:00 am - no appt necessary. So when you've been up all night with a screaming kid who probably has an ear infection you can get right over there, see the doctor and get to the drugstore all by 9:00 or so. The doctors are careful about limiting their patients so you can almost always get a same day appt. They have Saturday and Sunday hours as well. These things turn out to be real life savers sometimes! We have liked most of the doctors in the practice, especially ours (of course) and the other ones I saw referenced by other posters. Good luck!

We love our pediatrician Dr. Sharon Robinson at 1000 Central Street in Evanston. She is so caring and patient -- our daughter loves her and so do we. Her phone is ###-###-####. We also like her partners (which is nice if you have to go to drop-in hours.)

We are also fans of OB/GYN Dr. Chimene Pellar in the same building (right across the hall in fact!) Her phone is ###-###-####. She is very warm and caring, and her nurses are great.

Hi A.- welcome to the area.
My ped. is Dr. Andy Bernstein (North Shore Peds.) and is awesome!!! He is all about letting you choose on vacc. or not. I love that whole practice! I see that others who have responded feel the same way.
My OB/GYN is Marc Feldstein with Northwestern Women's Assoc. I feel he is one of the best, and I got to deliver at one of the top women's hospitals in the nation! His practice is all awesome, and when we have our second child I will stay with that practice.
Hope that helps.
A.

My 8 month old son sees Dr. Sharon Robinson (Northshore Medical Group) and I use Dr. Pamela Goodwin. I love both! Dr. Robinson listens to my concerns and is very supportive. And Dr. Goodwin is straightforward and cautious.

Hi A.,

The pediatrician a good number of area families who don't vaccinate or delay vaccinations go to is Dr. Minkus in Skokie (over the border from Evanston). He is supportive of other attachment parenting practices as well (co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, etc).

Hi A.,
I have a great pediatrician, Dr. Virginia DePaul at North Suburban Pediatrics. She is fine with not vaccinating for everything, I skipped the Chicken Pox, as it isn't a life threatening disease, just a bit annoying and she was completely on board with me. The other doctors in the practice are just as great. I actually grew up in the practice so I can speak as a mom and a child. The number is ###-###-####.

Also, my ob-gyn is Dr. William Bahnzaf, he also is great, my sister sees Elizabeth Forbes in the same office if you are more comfortable with a woman. That number is ###-###-####. Hope this helps!

Another thing, I am a member of the Women's Club of Evanston, if you are looking to meet more moms and other friends in the area let me know and I can introduce you to the Club. We raise money for local Womens and Childrens Charities and have fun while doing that! Let me know if you are interested! And welcome to the neighborhood!

Hi A.,

My family has used Pediatric Associates of the North Shore (just over into Wilmette) for many years. (www.docsforkids.com)

I've also used Dr. Chimene Pellar of Partners in Womencare in Evanston (near Evanston hospital -- ###-###-####). She is great. It's difficult to get an appt. for GYN appts, but easy for OB. The nurses are very responsive and answer questions left on the nurses' answering machine w/ in a few hours.

Best,
R.

A.,
We use Pediatric Associates of the North Shore for our two children (2 & 6). Dr. Patricia Brunner is our doctor and she works with us on an alternate vaccine schedule. We give one at a time and delayed my son's when he was constantly sick. He just started up again at 2 years old. Many doctors would not even talk about this with me and made me feel ridiculous for asking. Dr. Brunner knows I did my research and was very understanding. She does her job at educating me on the vaccines but does not push and adapts the schedules to a much slower pace. I could not say enough good things about her. She has offices in Wilmette and Glenview with Wilmette (This office is very close to Evanston) having Saturday hours. We had our babies at Evanston Hospital and she is affiliated with them as well.
For ob/gyn I use Carol Ellman as well (not Karen the other post just got the name slightly wrong because it is the same number). She delivered both of my kids at Evanston and was phenomenal. Dr. Forbes (also mentioned in another post) was my first doctor in the practice but Dr. Ellman ending up delivering my baby when she was new to the practice. We really fell in love with her! She is great, but so are the many other doctor's in the practice. We had one do a D&C for a lost baby and saw several others at appointments. Great Practice!
Hope this helps,
J.

I live in Evanston and love both my OB/GYN and Pediatrician (they are in the same building!)
Pediatrician: Erin Garofoli (big group - all great Drs) ###-###-####. They are across from Evanston Hospital at 1000 Central St. They practice at Evanston, but have privilages at Children's. They are for Vaccines, but allow you to make your own choices.

OB: Jennifer Kim (in practice with 3 Drs and a midwife) I've seen all of the Drs and like them, but she's awesome. ###-###-#### also in the 1000 central building.

Good luck - Evanston is awesome!

Hi, A.,

I strongly recommend North Suburban Pediatrics, ###-###-####. My sons are now 23 and 19, and we were with NSP their entire lives. Both are exceptionally healthy and I attribute that in part to the fine care they always received. Our pediatrician was Ira Salafsky, but we saw everyone in the practice and were always happy with the docs and office staff.
Good luck and enjoy Evanston!

both Dr Ettner and Dr. Minkus are super great peds. as far a Ob's go, you need to decide if you want a more medical model or a midwifery model of care. So I guess if you are not sure what kind of birth you want, go with the midwives, (Deb and Gaye ) and then if you want something more interventive the Dr's in the practice can be there to assist.
I am a doula in the area so if you have any questions feel free to contact me

Hey A.!

Welcome to Illinois! I am not sure where you are from, but Chicago is the best city!

As far as pediatricians go, I reccomend any one out of Lutheran General or Children's Memorial. I like Sheri Fisher from www.townandcountrypeds.com. My daughter uses the pediatricians from Advocate LGH www.advocatehealth.com. I don't know about their views on immunizations, since I believe in the schedule. Sorry! But I have found them to be very open and will listen to any parent.

For OBs- I Love Love love Alice Chen in Skokie. She delivers at LGH. She was my OB, and I am a nurse who thinks highly very of her!

Welcome!

I love Children's Healthcare Associates. They have 2 offices. 1 in the city (Lincoln Park) and 1 in Northbrook. I see Dr Ken Lyons, he is currently not taking any new patients, but I like everyone I've seen. I also delayed vaccinations and he had no problem, as long as they were given eventually.
My friend really likes Dr Chuck O'Brien in Wilmette (I think he's in Wilmette). I don't know his vaccination policy.
