I have a home based business that I just started and I am interested in promoting myself at fairs/events. I am looking for information about upcoming vendor type events; like the festivals you see around town. I would like to know how to find upcoming events and how to sign up to participate in them. If anyone has any helpful tips they would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!

What can I do next?

I actually run an art & craft fair at a college in Milwaukee, WI.
Now most events of this kind will NOT let you prompt yourself unless you buy an advertising space in their program. The booths are just for art & crafts vendors. So it really depends on what your home based business is, without further info on what your business is it is hard to point you in the correct direction. We are VERY strict on who we allow in as a vendor, those who sponsor us are allowed to set up a table but they give us thousands to support us... we accept various art and craft type vendors, no food, no store bought kits, no other business types like Mary Kay.

This is where we advertise our event to get vendors: http://midwestartfairs.com/home?page=9

Since you are in IL this would a good place to start. Also just look up online festivals and fairs in your area. That will be a great place to start, then call or e-mail the place to see if you can work something out with them.

I am wondering what kind of business you have started? There are a number of ways you could promote yourself online....along with the recommendations below, I want to suggest a site a very much like to refer to that gives exposure of other "mom" businesses and mommy bloggers...maybe you could try contacting them?

Most churches will host vendor events as well as colleges and school fairs.

Try joining meetup.com and look for a business netwworking group.

Good Luck!

Do you have a local chamber of commerce (or multiple ones)? That would be a great place to start. If you have a convention center near by, they may have some information as well. Good luck!
