So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you wonderful momma's out there that have reached out to me! We are going on Wed for her RSV shot so I will know how big she has gotten! She is actually close to being on track for her actual age...maybe a week or two behind. Except on rolling over. I have tried all the suggestions from the Dr and other momma's; but she would just rather sit upright or stand in her baby einstein entertainer. Thanks again and I will keep in touch as well as I can...I am horrible about that!

So we are almost 1yr old. Time flys! She is walking and "talking" she is also doing really well at sign language-she loves it!

I have a 14 month old son that was born at 34 weeks. He was in NICU for 16 days. Born at 4 lbs 7 oz. he quickly caught up in the weight/height, on normal growth chart at 4 months. He was/is slightly delayed in some areas but we are just patient with him. Just remember the adjusted age!!! We also were in the soonerstart program for the first year it they helped wonders. I'd love to stay in touch!

hi i have 2 children who never made it to term one was born at 32 weeks she is the most intelligent person i have ever met above the curve in everything my son was born at 33 weeks and he was seriopusly developmentally delayed and has many issued today

my children are now 15 gifted taking college cradit courses in highschool and 12 opposite of his sister delayed in special ed

the best and most honest advice i can give you is to ask Sooner start to come to your home to do an assesment on your child to see developmentally where the baby is the service is free they look at gestational age as well as physical age to help you know what and when to expect milestones and if your child is behind they provide therapies in those areas if you need any more ideas and do want to add me that is great you can reach me at ____@____.com i do not work am i am usually readily avalible if ya want to talk vent or just praise the steps your child is making i am open to it with out any doubts like i said mine were both preemies but they are 12 and 15 now with very diffrent lives prematurity is not an automatic curse for heatlh and developmental issues the job is now in your court teaching and talking with your baby as much as possible reading to her streching those muscles in proper ways to help learn how to use them please e-mail i will fill you in more

Both of my girls were premies as was I. My oldest who will be 8 in May was born 8 weeks 6 days early. My youngest will be 9 months old 1-4-07 was born 5 weeks 4 days early. I was born 3 months early. It all has to do with the combination between when you arrived versus your due date and the same with your husband. Or at least that is my thought. Please keep me posted on what happens. If ya need anyone to talk with just e-mail me at ____@____.com.

Hi A. I also have preemie my are 4 1/2 years old. I am not sure if I am how you are looking for. They were born at 27 weeks. If you have any question just let me know. They do not have any problem. If you would see them you could not tell that they were only 2lb 8oz and 2lb 11oz.

I am probably not who you were thinking about since my preemie daughter is just turning 7 years old today... but I just wanted to say congratulations and that I hope your daughter is doing well!

My daughter, Megan, was a micro preemie. She was born at 27 week... 13 weeks early. She weighed in at 1 pound 10 ounces and had to stay in the hospital for 85 days, before coming home one week before her actual due date. When she came home, she weighed 5 pounds 6 ounces.. just like her sister, when she was born 3.5 weeks early.

Since then she has been very healthy and very happy. We do have a few learning disabilites that the said she would have... problems learning how to read and write.. we we are working through those. She is still my petite baby... weighing in at only 35 pounds... but such a wonderful child!

Good luck to you and your journey with your daughter! You know exactly how much children are worth and how special they are!

Our son was also 6 weeks early. He was 4 lbs 4 oz. He's still a little guy, just reached 20 lbs on his 1st birthday (Dec 12th). He's doing great & doesn't seem to be behind the other kids his age. We have been blessed. He's been very healthy & didn't really get sick, until we gave him his 1 yr shots. But hopefully that will just make him stronger. He was on breast milk for 1 year & I believe that helped him. He is just now getting into table foods... which he loves. He's a very active little guy. He started walking just after his first birthday. He said his first word, mama when he was 8 months old. Now he says daddy, no no & dog. no no is usually directed towards the dogs. The only problem I had was dealing with mother's who never had a preemie. They thought I was over protective. Some would even be offended when I asked them to wash their hands before holding the baby. I just told them it was Drs orders & explained how he could get RSV which could put him back in the NICU. They still didn't seem to understand. I found a cute website with signs you could put on your baby's stroller or car seat. They helped keep strangers from touching him but family didn't seem to notice it. Here's the website: http://www.prematurity.org/shops/shop-mytinyhands.html. It also has links to other preemie sites. My only advise is to stand your ground & enjoy every minute with her. It's amazing how fast that 1st birthday sneaks up on you. Take care!

1 lb and 13 oz. He is truly a miracle baby. Heather was alot of experience and knowledge and loves to be a support for other moms with preemies. Her baby is doing awesome and is actually already on the growth chart at 1 year. Feel free to e-mail me and I will hook you up with her via a 3-way call. ____@____.com

Hi A.,
I would love to stay in touch and help each other through a tough experience. My husband and I welcomed out son at 30.5 weeks on 6-8-06. It was a very rough experience as I went into labor at 23 and was put in the hospital on bed rest until he was born. Then he spent another five and a half weeks in the NICU.
The hardest part of having a preemie is that there are a lot of people who dont really understand what that means. I am also having trouble with knowing what they should be doing for their age and such. A few of my close friends had babies in May that were full term and there are times when I think our son is catching up and the next time I get worried.
Anyways I would love to keep in touch and hit the mile-stones with other moms who are dealing with and going through what I am.
My email address is ____@____.com
Hope you had a great holiday with your daughter!

I also recently had a preemie. Zane Michael came on Oct.8 2006, at 31 weeks and 6 days. He stayed in Baptist NICU for 3 weeks. That was probably the toughest experience a woman can go through, spending alone nights in the hospital after delivery, walking out of the hospital without your baby, and not to mention all the hours logged into the NICU. I guess I was really lucky too, he weighed only 4lbs. 3oz. when we got to take him home. However, having a preemie is no walk in the park, and I must say that we are superhumans! To have to go through that traumatic experience and only be thankful our little bundles of joy are now safe!

I have lots of experience with preemies! I have a 2-year-old and 1-year-old twins who were born 7 weeks early. They were supposed to be Valentine babies, but instead joined us in 12/29/2005! Everything has worked out perfect and they are healthy and thriving, but it was scary bringing home babies so tiny.

I would love to keep in touch....

I developed HELLP syndrome at 33 weeks and ignored it and the pain for another week till they did a 24 hr u/a and found that my kidneys were spilling LOTS of protein and my liver counts were too high...oh yeah, and not too many platelets to mention either. So Mr. Joe came to the world at 34 weeks and 4 days. He's maintained his growth curve and is stunningly quick witted. I did make quite a few enemies the first year though due to germ avoidance issues. WE DID NOTHING if it involved other kids and their potential for RSV or other spooky germs. But we just had our first wonderful huge family holiday with everyone and mended some fences...ya know, they're not gonna pay the hospital bills if their kid gets your kid sick so BE the mama!!! Tell us why she was early. Thanks!
