Menstral Cycle Returning to Normal After Baby

Ever since I gave birth over a year ago, my cycle will not return to normal. My doctor has tried switching my BCP a few times, but it is always the same result. I keep getting my period at least once every other week. I have had endometriosis since I was 16 but never had a problem with this. Right after I had my daughter I was breastfeeding and it didn't even stop it. I stoped after 3 mos because I would not stop bleeding for more than two days in a row. I am now at wits end. I have had a normal pap since my daughters birth but this problem still persists. I can not really afford to go to my doctor again since I do not have medical insurance and refuse to go to the county clinic for anything. Has anyone had this problem and found a birth controll pill that worked for them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok so I talked to my regular OB he said I need to be seen however it would be a $400. plus visit. ( which I can not afford.) I now need a suggestion for a good ob that either works on a sliding scale or takes payments. Any suggestions.

I have not had any problems being regular, I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. I hate to say this, but I really think that you need to see a Dr. If the one you have been seeing is not helping you, I would look for someone else. You may want to look into the birth control shot. My sister in law took it for 2 years, and did not have a period at all. However she had a real problem with depression and weight gain. I would look into the side effects before you make a decision. Good Luck!

Did i read it right that you stopped breastfeeding at 3 months because of the irregular menstrual cycle? I'm not sure I understand the connection....?

Good morning!
I really want to encourage you to go to the public health dept and use the medical resources that you can to address your health problem. As a single mom for 14 years, I used Pinellas County Health Dept for my 2 sons (one is 25 years old and one is 14years old) and myself. I participate in the women's health projeft to get mammograms and cervical cancer screenings for free...becasue I have had no health insurance and not enough money to pay for it. I am very thankful--and healthier--for choosing to take care of my sons and my self through public health. The docs are all fully certified of course, and the nurses and staff I found are more friendly and compassionate than the busier, "health insurance" docs offices. Pleae consider calling and making your appointment--your baby needs a healthy mom! D. :>

Mine never returned to normal, but this is extreme. I am a little surprised you doctor isn't more worried about doing test to confirm what is happening. I agree, you to the public health if that is what you have to do! I did go through a couple of BC pills after my son because they one I had taken my whole life no longer worked for me. I finally found YAZ and it stopped my periods, however, it is expensive. I have insurance, so i was able to do it. I think you need to get a second opinion more than anything! An ultrasound would be a good idea.

Hello-I'm in the medical field and I've seen these symptoms before. You really need to go to your docotor or even the health clinic and get an ultrasoud done and check for fibrod cysts that grow and also possibly check for anemia. If you feel run down a lot and no energy you could be becoming anemic due to the frequent blood loss. Just be careful and take care of yourself any way you can for the sake of your daughter. Hope this info may help in your quest.

The endometriosis is probably contributing to this alot and most likely you would need a D&C to help correct it. I know of no birth control pill that will stop it. In many cases the Depo Prevera shot stops periods but in my daughter, it caused her to have one constantly. I had to have a D&C for breakthru bleeding and that took care of it. I couldn't take BC pills.

Are you taking your BC pill at the same time everyday and not skipping any pills? I know this can cause breakthrough bleeding that can be similar to a period, especially if you are on one of the lower-estrogen pills. Beyond that, I would probably keep researching what could be causing this and maybe try a different method of BC. I know you said you don't have medical ins but I have heard good things about the IUC Mirena, a few girls I know have it and don't even get a period at all anymore. Good luck, I hope you can get to the bottom of it. No one needs a period that often!!
