Miscarriage or Not?

So I found out I was pregnant last month on 5/26 with HPT. I went to get pregnancy confirmed 3 weeks ago at one of the pregnancy help centers here in Houston due to the fact that my insurance for work won't kick in until early July! Well this morning I went for an ultrasound.. According to my last cycle they have me measured at 8.5 weeks pregnant... I went for ultrasound at the center although they are not medical doctors.. There was no heart beat, no fetal movement... The tech says prepare for miscarriage! What to think? I've had no symptoms what so ever! So many people are telling me it could be too early maybe measurements are off, but I know what I saw today and that was a baby not moving... I know I should follow up with Dr. Please help! I don't know what to do!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just want to thank you ladies who took time out to answer my question this has been hard for me.. Here is the update, The baby is measured at 8 weeks and has passed. I am just waiting on my body to realize it so that I can miscarry. I will visit my OBGYN today... I finally have INSURANCE! Hopefully she will give me something to help speed up the process!

I'm so sorry. This is just so hard.

For me...I started bleeding, went to the hospital and there was no heartbeat so we knew I was miscarrying. It was so difficult. 10 months later I delivered my daughter who is now 19 yo. << Hugs>>

It's possible that you're not as far along as you believe. Pregnancy boards are filled with people that were told that no heartbeat was visible, only to find a heartbeat 2 or 3 weeks later. It's one of the reasons that a lot of medical doctors won't even do an ultrasound until 12 weeks. It causes a lot of unneeded stress.

I've gone through this a few times. The thing I'd encourage you to keep in mind at this point is that there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the outcome If you are truly going to miscarry, your body knows what to do. You don't need to even think about d&c's or other things at this point.

I found it easier to just proceed through the waiting periods with the assumption that everything was o.k. I still took extremely good care of my body, prenatal vitamin's, etc. I figured that I owed that much to my future children.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this! I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Let me just suggest that "pregnancy help" centers with no medical doctors and sometimes no one with any real medical training at all are not health care providers. They are often anti-abortion fronts for vulnerable women. You say they have you "measured" at 8.5 weeks but that is just based on dates and not on any pelvic exam, right? So you're really up in the air with little info. If there is a real Planned Parenthood near you, you can go there and look for a reduced fee (sliding scale) or a payment plan. But since you are in Texas and so many centers have been closed down, you may not have that option. But do not be misled by similar-sounding names on centers that don't have medical staff. Near where I live, there are "Problem Pregnancy" clinics that open up right next to real Planned Parenthood clinics, and they get a lot of walk-ins who get confused by the same initials (PP) and location. My stepdaughter had this experience and was told the same thing you were told.

If you are about to have a miscarriage, there is - sadly - nothing you can do. If you experience extremely heavy bleeding or cramping, then you should go to a doctor or a walk-in urgent care center (ask your doctor or call the Planned Parenthood 800 number to find out what's near you to be sure you have a real medical facility) for reliable diagnosis and treatment using up-to-date equipment and qualified people to read the ultrasound or any other test you are given. Otherwise, although it's extremely frustrating and nerve-wracking, you should wait until your insurance kicks in.

I don't think you can see a baby moving this early. It doesn't look like a baby, and you probably wouldn't see it move. At this stage, these people who are not doctors probably cannot hear a heartbeat. Without medical doctors to assess you, you are totally in the dark.

Planned Parenthood should be your next stop.

There is nothing any of us can tell you, except to follow up with a doctor. We can't predict weather you will miscarry or not. But I can tell you that I also had a miscarriage many years ago. Same scenario. I went for an ultrasound, I was about 8 or 9 weeks along and there was no heartbeat. I did in fact miscarry a few days later. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. All you can do is wait and follow up with a real doctor. Good luck.

I think the only way you can be sure is for blood to be drawn to check your hormone levels. To see if they're rising or falling.

First, I'm sorry. I can personally relate to this and it's tough.

Go to an OB/GYN to get correct information and instructions on how to proceed. This should include blood testing for HGC levels. They will likely want to have you follow up in a week or so to check if levels are going up or down.

I cannot tell you if you are having a miscarriage or not. I do suggest seeing a doctor because they can prescribe a medications to lessen the pain. When I was home alone during my last miscarriage, (husband had just left to visit his family cross country), I made sure I had enough food for a couple of days and the things I needed (pads, prescription of meds filled, food) and then called a couple good friends to let them know what was going on. This was important as doctors usually recommend having someone with you during the miscarriage in case you need more medical aid and emotional comfort. I personally do better alone with these things, but a couple close friends came with groceries and were available if I'd needed help to get medical care.

A few months later, I became pregnant with our son, who is now 10.

All I can tell you, from my experience, is to put logic first (be pragmatic) and go see a doctor. It's so hard to miscarry-- please take good care of yourself.

T.,

I'm truly sorry. I've had 3 miscarriages. I understand what you are going through.

I'd ask my OB/GYN for a DNC if I haven't passed the fetus at this point. You could get a uterine infection.

I'm sorry!
