Hi all! I have a 18 month old son and when I was pregnant with him I tested 5 days before my missed period and I got a strong positive. My period have been like clock work since puberty. I always have a 30 day cycle and my periods are always predictable and ordinary. Well, I am on cycle day 32 and still no period. I took a preggo test yesterday and this morning and they both came out with a big fat negative. What could be going on? My period has never started after day 30 before and if the test says im not pregnant then im not pregnant right? What could b e going on? BTW, I am 26 and not going on menopause, lol.

What can I do next?

I'd give it a full week past when you should have started and then re-test. I didn't get a positive result on a HPT until I was a week late.

Do you chart your cycles? Do you know if and when you ovulated? Are you on birth control? There are so many factors. All women go through annovulation cycles where they don't ovulate or it happens really late. My luteal phase (between ovulation and period) is VERY short, so I never test positive until right around the day I should get my period. If you ovulated just a day or two late, it would change when you get a +. Keep testing for a few days. A false - is much more likely than a false +. If it says you aren't pregnant, you still could be, but if it says you are pregnant, there are only a couple medical reasons you wouldn't actually be pregnant.
It could also be that you conceived but the pregnancy didn't take, so your body hasn't expelled it yet, but it also doesn't register since it's not viable.
Also, stress can have a huge impact on ovulation, so if you were extra stressed about something 2 weeks ago, you may not have ovulated on time.
If you don't already, start charting your cycles, then you never have a question about where you are:) Read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". The older you get, the more likely it is to have irregular cycles.

It could just be a fluke. My cycles work like clockwork, too, and I once was four weeks late and not pregnant. Of course, it was while we were trying to conceive, so I was heartbroken that it was negative. Even after done nursing my twins, my cycles had been predictable. So, for me, it was just a one time thing. I did see my doctor after three weeks, and he gave me a progesterone shot to "restart" my cycle.

OK first off the home test can be wrong. The blue dye test seem to be wrong more than the red dye ones. Also it is normal for you to have a cycle that runs long some time. My one this past time went 35 days and I have one that went into the 40's. Hang in there. As long as you are not hurting you can wait and see if it starts. If you is like a week to 2 weeks late I would call your doctor and go in.

An at-home pregnancy test will never give a "false positive", but they DO give "false negatives." Ask your doctor to order you a hCG bloodtest (you should be able to just walk into any lab that your insurance accepts with your order) and you'll know for sure.

But like others have said, if you stress out about it, it may just make your pregnancy late too. I remember thinking I was pregnant back in college and I completely freaked out. As a result of all of the stress I was putting myself under, my period was over a week late!

There are many different reasons why a woman can miss her period. Pregnancy, Stressed-out, health-related, and the list could go on. If you "think" you could be pregnant its very possible that the home pregnancy test came out incorrectly...it just depends how much of the HCG hormone is present. When I found out I was technically only 2 weeks along. The reason I found out so soon was because I was on my period but it was very abnormal. We had been trying for 11 months so I thought Oh what the heck I know it will be negative once again BUT for my peice of mind I will take one. I purchased the cheapest off brand you could find and took the test and within seconds I had a positive. I was told by a nurse that the Home pregnancy test are just as effective as the one's they use in the Doctor's office so more than likely you are not but there is that possability that you just tested too soon or that enough of the HCG hormone was detected. If you want to find out for sure the best way to know for sure is a blood test although-lol! My cousin did one was told no she wasn't but low and behold she was. Happened with my sister-in-law too so now I'm not quite sure....

Sometimes after having a baby your cycles can kinda change. I like have always had periods like clock work at exactly 28 days. But after my first was born it took a year to get my period back (due to nursing) then when I got it back I had 2 periods in one month and then became regular but that was really weird for me. Then after my second it took 14 months to get my period back and they started at 34 day cycles which again is so weird for me. Now they are about 32 days. So I guess I'm just saying sometimes after a baby your body can change. If I were you I would wait a week or so and see if your period is just a little late. Then try and take another test.

Mine was always on time as well. Two years ago I was 8 days late, and then it started it was very heavy and painfull. I freaked out thought maybe it was miscarriage . Went to ER....they said nope, NO sign of pregnancy. What in the world was it ???, no idea. Has not happened since......been like clock work....till I got preg with our 3rd:) I do know some women who had to wait for weeks for the test to show positive. Never know.....

You don't say how old you are, could you be going through menapause? If not, are you stressed about anything or things going on different from the norm?

Hang in there and give it a couple of more days......but if you are like me, when I was young, if I missed, I was pregnant.....

Good Luck.
