Hi Ladies,
I just moved to Danbury. Are there any groups in the area? Or any places to take a 10 month old?
Thanks

Hi N.,

Welcome to the neighborhood! There is a web site called www.meetup.com. There are some active groups in the Danbury area. Forever Friends is one that is very active. It is out of New York but has an good CT contingent. I'm a member of a couple and look forward to meeting you if you decide to join up.

I've heard that the Brookfield library has a 6-12 month storytime program. No clue about Danbury library... but I'd check there first, if it's closer to you. Also, look up moms club online. They are set up by area... 1 in New Milford, 2 in Brookfield... not sure about Danbury. Moms club provides social outlets for moms and kids... with organized playgroups, a moms nite out once/ month, and seasonal events, etc. I just joined our moms club this year... and it's been great to get to know more moms in the area. Also, it's fairly inexpensive: ours is just $25/year.

Personally, I attend MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) in Bethel, and LOVE IT! It is designed as a time-out for moms. There is childcare, a speaker, breakfast and craft/creative activity for moms. It was a lifesaver when I moved here (New Milford) almost 2 years ago. If you'd like to visit (there's only one session left before the break for summer-- May 13th) let me know and I can connect you with the right people.

I'm assuming you'll get tons of responses, but there are also things like Gymboree, classes at parks and rec, indoor play areas like Planet Play (in New Milford), and Fun Factor (in Brookfield)... many of these can be researched online, or probably a phone call to your parks and rec. Also, I don't know if there's a YWCA in Danbury, but there is one in Brookfield and I think they have classes and things for that age group, as well.

Feel free to email me... and welcome to the area!!! Maybe we'll meet sometime;)

N. - Welcome to Danbury! Actually, I'm just moving in, too...we're still in the waiting-in-a-hotel-for-our-stuff-to-make-it-across-the-country phase. ;-) When we were looking for a house, our realtor took us to a place called Stepping Stones - it's in Ridgefield, I think. It's an awesome Children's Museum with lots of activities for little kids..is your BB walking yet? There's lots of water to float things in, etc. We have a 19-month old...so we'll be spending lots of time at Danbury Fair Mall. There will be lots to see, especially in the hot, hot summer months...and they have a full-sized carosel that they bought from the Fairgrounds that used to occupy their lot. ($1.50 per ride.) Does any of that help?

Hi N.,
Welcome to Danbury! Depending on your zip code & school district, there are two MOMS Clubs that you can join. For more information, email ____@____.com Club is a wonderful club that brings stay-at-home moms together. You'll meet other moms, get a monthly newsletter and a calendar of playdates & events. Hope this helps.

I would highly recommend Stepping stones Museum but it is actually in norwalk. You may want to just sign up for a yearly membership...it is worth it. But you should probably wait until your child is walking. There is a great big playground on the grounds as well....one for older kids and one for younger. It is in Norwalk and pretty easy to get too. The Maritime Aquarium is close by as well. There is a spray park at Rogers Middle School in Danbury....great way to spend some time in the warm weather. Libraries often have programs for little ones like mother goose. I have heard Earthplace in Westport is great as well. There are tons of things to do, but it can add up. You should get in touch with a local mom's group or newcomers group in danbury....great way to meet people with other kids in the area.
