Moving to Giorgia

Hello everyone!
My husband is being relocated, and we will have to move to Georgia. His office is located in Kennesaw. We don't know anything about that area. We are wondering what are the better areas to live in Cobb County (East vs. West, crime, etc). Are Woodstock, Kennesaw, Acworth, Marietta about the same or is there one that stands out? What would be the best for the money?
Thanks ladies!
A. :)

So What Happened?

Thank You!. The information you all gave me is very helpful. We are planning, for sure, to rent and then buy after we are very familiar with the area. Thanks again!

My sister in law lives in Acworth.
I have several friends that live in Marietta and Kennesaw.

I'd move to Georgia if my husband had a job there. Well, let me be clear - ATLANTA area, not too far south of Atlanta. I'm not a fan of the Ft. Gordon area, but there are people I know that have lived there and love it. My good friend's sister in law lives near University of Georgia (which is near Ft. Gordon).

Cost of living is nice.

School wise, East Cobb is one of the best areas in the entire state. Your big three are the Pope, Lassiter, and Walton school districts, though the others in East Cobb are certainly good, too. Stone Mountain is no where near your husband's job, so I don't even know why that was mentioned. I've heard good things about the Kennesaw/Woodstock area, but am less familiar with those areas to offer recommendations.

Traffic in Atlanta is horrible. Especially, a standard commute (i.e. looking at living somewhere north of Kennesaw vs. South). So, if you look at areas 25 minutes north of your husband's job, in traffic, it could be more like an hour. So, remember to take that into consideration.

ETA: After thinking about it, traffic here is bad. Coming from Southern California, it's the same, so I didn't really consider traffic!

I live in Georgia. I moved here almost 3 years ago from Southern California. Tyler, my husband, grew up here.

We live in Stone Mountain, north east of Atlanta. We live outside the perimeter. Which is a good thing. Inside the perimeter is Atlanta proper.

Don't know where you stand politically. Georgia is diverse. Kennesaw is very right. They are the county that passed a law that EVERY home owner will own a gun.

Buckhead is due north of Atlanta. It's the most expensive area in Atlanta.

Acworth is a great area. Great schools too. Housing is big and priced well.

I could recommend a Realtor, if you are interested in purchasing a home.

Kennesaw is about 20 minutes from Allatoola Lake. There are a lot of activities to do there. We moved here after the drought, although there are still places that you can't get into.

I don't know about the schools but I lived in the Atlanta area for a while during a college internship and I loved it. We've since been back several times and almost moved the Atlanta area.

Beautiful area but traffic is very bad.

Kennesaw is fine. Cobb Co. east is far better than the west. All the places you named are good areas. Sure not what they use to be though, but then what is. You're going to deal with one hell of a lot of traffic no matter what.

I would suggest moving into an apartment near his job for the first 6 months. This will give you a chance to check things out that fit your needs.

I just moved to Georgia 2 months ago. Same area, too. :) We live in Cartersville. I would stay away from Atlanta anything unless you actually enjoy city life and LOTS of traffic. My husband is a dump truck driver and complains about the traffic daily. I've been to Kennesaw, and it seems alright. Marietta is another large city in this area. If you're looking for statistics try Wikipedia. It has everything you want to know.
