My Brest Friend

Im interested to see all the replies too! I am also plus size and need to "hold" everything. I have a question for you too! Being plus size I also have a 33 inch inseam and can't find maternity pants that fit both. Any place you like to shop that carries plus size, maternity, tall pants? I have never used a breast feeding pillow just a few well placed bed pillows. Congratulation! A.

I am technically plus-sized, and definitely a shirt lifter. LOL. This pillow was the best thing that ever happened to me. The baby is much more stable on this pillow than the boppy. I always felt she would roll right off that thing, and I ended up tossing it out after the Brest Friend! Best nursing item ever. :)

LOL, I always had to hold everything in place too.... my daughter is now 10 and let me tell ya, being plus sized was a benefit for me. She always loved to cuddle, and still does. She tells me I am 'comfy'. heheeh she never needed a blankie because she had me.

Thanks for mentioning this pillow. I am going to be a grandma in May and my son's GF wants to nurse, I might look into getting her one of these... she's plus size too and it looks like it will work for her.

I am also plus sized, and I used a my brest friend when I was in the hospital and I did not like it. I didn't like to be tethered to the pillow. The boppy is much more my style. I can pull it close when I need it, and remove it without having it tied to me. Some days I do think about getting one, because I wonder how it would be to walk around with her attached to me, but I think the boppy works just fine. I own three of them :) One for the car, one for upstairs and one downstairs. lol. Heck, they make great pillows to wrap around your back if you want to sit up straight in bed too. lol.

I LOVED My Breast Friend pillow! And yes, I too am no longer the perfect size 10. I also hated the stupid nursing shirts that felt far more utilitarian than I needed to be. If you wear jeans and a t-shirt or some such arrangement, it is quite simple to simply lift the shirt out before you attach the pillow. I also had experience wiht the bobby as a neighbor gave us their used one. The Breast Friend is MUCH easier as it doesn't move like the bobby does. I would definitely recommend it. To clarify, the My Brest Friend actually clasps more around your ribcage than your waist...I wear a size 40D bra and it fits me with room to spare. I LOVE this pillow...After a c-section it lifted the baby up and off my stomach (unlike the Boppy) so it was a life saver for me - it's very sturdy and stable. I, too, am a shirt lifter and I just lift my shirt before I click it on with no problems. My husband always jokes that I'm "strapping on the dinner table" - it's a good description though! I do find now that my son is getting bigger that I use it less often but friends of mine have used it right up until they stopped breastfeeding (one year and more) so it's versatile!

I think you'd be fine with My Brest Friend. The pillow buckles around your waist and sits right up under your breasts flat like a table. It's great because, unlike the boppy, there is no slant so you don't have to hold the baby up. If the fit is a problem you can simply pull the pillow around you without buckling it. I often used it like that anyway because I didn't have an extra hand to do the buckle. Leaning back against the couch or chair should hold it in place. As far as your shirt, you'd just pull it up before getting settled. No big deal.

One thing to keep in mind is that the boppy has many more uses with your baby. My Brest Friend would not be a tummy time pillow or used on the floor for the baby, etc....

My Brest Friend is great. I have the opposite problem I have a small waist and I put it to the smallest it can be. It is really supportive but at times have to have an extra pillow untop or towels rolled for more support.

I'm sure it should accomodate you.

I think it is a good thing to sit down and nurse the baby, It is a good thing to be able to sit down. Walking around while nursing just seems wrong to me. Like its lessening the importance of it. I guess people are impatient these days and have ADD. There we no boppys and nursing pillows for millions of years and yet the human race survives!

I am plus sized and just put the baby under my shirt, there were no problems.

I too LOVED my brest Friend pillow. I like the way it latched completely around my waist and supported my lower back. It was quick to get on, even in the dark. You adjust the waist band once with the velcro and then use the snap clip from then on. I was a "shirt lifter" too and never had much trouble.

I found it useful beyond nursing too. Before I got a sling and a BaJorn, I would cradle my little girl in one arm and rest her bottom on the pillow. I could then manage some tasks that only required one hand. Of course this was only during the first 4 weeks or so, but it made me feel slightly independent while keeping tabs on her, very closely. I was a worry-wart of a new mom! LOL.

I LOVE My Brest Friend!!! I am a shirt lifter and it works fine. Just attached it under the shirt. I also had a bobby and once you use My Brest Friend, you will never want to go back. Make sure you attach it just under your breasts and not around your waist. Make sure it is also pretty tight. I would be able to stand up and move around if I absolutely had to. The baby will lay on it with their head in line with their body - totally on their side. Their won't be a "kink" in their head and the milk is more easily swallowed. I found it to be much more comfortable.

But I also want to thank you for your post- because I have NEVER understood how my friends could just walk around nursing! I love your description of "holding everything in place!" My poor son would have been smothered instantly, if I hadn't been sitting and holding! :)

I like to think I offer a soft, comfy, peaceful place to eat. None of that bony, hurried nursing here! Ha!

I am also a plus sized nursing mom & shirt lifter. It is always a challenge when my breasts would much rather face the floor than the baby. I tried an older version of the My breast friend with my first child. I found that it didn't fit well & there was no way I was going to walk around with a baby on it. I had better luck putting the baby in a sling & doing some interesting positioning to get my breast to rest on the edge of the sling & within reach of the baby's mouth. Most the time I found it best just to sit in a chair with good arm rests & nurse away. But with older children you do need to go out & about a lot more so I used the sling. I don't use the nursing shirts (they really don't come in my size) but sometimes I would wear a t-shirt under a button down & then cut boob holes in the t-shirt. I just found it easier with the sling. Best of luck. I love to hear of big families!

Hi D.! My breast friend pillows are awesome for plus-sized mommas, I loved mine when my daughter was a newborn (and I was about a size 22 with size G breasts). I'm not sure what you mean by not being one of those tiny moms who can hook the baby up and walk around the house -- the pillow isn't designed to enable moms to walk around and nurse, it's just to help with positioning for the baby. If you're looking to nurse hands-free and have some mobility of movement, I'd highly recommend looking into a soft cloth baby carrier such as a pouch, a ring sling or a wrap (the Moby is excellent for newborns but you can find a lot more information about wraps at thebabywearer.com).

I personally am overweight and I love the Boppy. I have tried the brest friend and I just don't like it as well. When I work with nursing moms, the boppy usually seems to be better esp for those with a few extra pounds. I always pulled my shirt up or down depending and I think you still could. It does limit your movement some and I think the brest friend is good for new moms just after birth. I would recommend going to a shop that has them and trying it out. That is wonderful that this is your 6th!! Congratulations and best of luck!
