My Head Hurts!

two days ago I had some intensly sharp ear pain, it hurt for about half a day. The next morning my head was throbbing in one spot (same side as the ear pain) it feels like there may be a bump (my husband doesn't think there is a bump so I could be making it up) I woke up fine today and thought ok maybe it's gone but it came back about 15 minutes ago. It is VERY sharp and throbbing pain. 2 advil totally takes it away until they wear off. I tried to get a dr appointment yesterday but they were booked. Of course my biggest fears are coming out brain tumor, aneurysm. I just never get headaches. It does worry me and I do plan to go to the dr if it doesn't get better over the weekend but it is scary!!! Seems to hit more in the afternoons and mornings seem ok. Sleeping was ok too I didn't have any problems with the headaches while lying down.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

went to the dr. no ear infection, no sinus infection. He actually doesn't know what is going on. So he put me on an antibiodic and plans to check me out in ten days unless none of the pain gets better than I am supposed to go back on Friday.

Yeah I can pretty much tell you that you're not going to die from this...if it were something that critical you wouldn't be typing this, you'd be in the hospital due to pain and advil wouldn't help. I'm thinking ear infection or some kind of dental issue. Go to urgent care if you're horribly worried.

It's probably an ear infection or a sinus infection. And yes those hurt. Drink 4-5 big cups of chamomile tea or chamomile/mint tea and see how you feel tomorrow. The chamomile help rid the body of toxins so you will run and pee a lot and perhaps break out in a sweat. If you start blowing your nose in technicolor it's the infection breaking up -- just keep blowing and drinking the tea and by Monday the infection may be gone. If not gone you will feel a lot better.

sounds like sinus and allergy problems.

Don't try and diagnose yourself. If you do - you will worry yourself to death - just like you are doing now. If you are feeling woozy or "off" - then have your husband take you to the Urgent Care to be seen.

A ruptured aneurysm? Don't think so. The majority of people with aneurysms die on the spot. If you don't have
* blurred vision
* Nausea and vomiting
* Stiff neck or neck pain
* Blurred vision or double vision
* Pain above and behind the eye
* Dilated pupils
* Sensitivity to light
* Loss of sensation
then it's not an aneurysm.

An unruptured aneurysm.

* Peripheral vision deficits
* Thinking or processing problems
* Speech complications
* Perceptual problems
* Sudden changes in behavior
* Loss of balance and coordination
* Decreased concentration
* Short-term memory difficulty
* Fatigue
You were able to clearly type this post so don't think it's an aneurysm.

You would be surprised at how far back your sinuses go. Try taking a benadryl OR a sinus medication - if you get relief with that - then allergies is most likely your culprit. If you have no relief in symptoms, after taking a decongestant/sinus med - have your husband take you to the Urgent Care!

GOOD LUCK!!

It may be a sinus infection. I had one a few weeks ago that didn't hurt in my head but made my ears hurt so bad (and throat glands swell so much) that I could barely close my mouth, talk or eat. t was apparently the eardrum being squeezed by the swelling. The dr. gave me antibiotics and a steroid to reduce the swelling and heal everything, and it finally cleared up. In addition to the advil, you might get some relief from a decongestant or antihistamine.

The brain doesn't have pain receptors in it... so when your head hurts... it's ALMOST NEVER your brain. Even if it's a giant tumor pressing on things, there's a gazillion and one behavioral and cognitive things that happen first. IN FACT when neurosurgeons are operating, they often work on an awake patient so the patient can be talking almost continuously (it's a diagnositic thing). No pain receptors, no pain. It hurts more to get a papercut on your finger than a knife in your noggin.

Instead it's usually sinuses or ears, and failing that your skull, muscles, or nerves that go through the muscles of your face and skull.

A headache that does not go away or returns should be checked by a doctor so get in when you can on Monday. It could be anything really, from teeth, ear, sinus, neck, etc. Don't panic but get in soon.

Maybe sinus/allergy related? Are you seeing an early spring in your area? We have pollen galore here, and I'm battling constant headaches and allergy symptoms myself. Could be stress/tension headache as well. See your doctor asap if it doesn't go away soon. Feel better!

There are so many different things that it could be that to try to help would be a bad thing.

Can you e-mail your Doc? Perhaps if he/she knew how scared this is making you they could slip you in.

How about urgent care? You can just walk in to most of them just as you would the ER.

If it continues & you cannot get into your Doc, then by all means go to the ER, things that are abnormal to our bodies only we know until we can check it out, you know your body more than anyone else.

I AM prone to headaches and have been since teens and even I would have already gone to a dr. for this. I've had EEGs done and it was just determined I had migraines and we know certain things that trigger them. Since this is not your case, why are you waiting to see a dr.??? If it's more than an ear infection or something easy to treat, every minute can make a difference for you (those that love you and need you too). Go see a dr. today.
