My Period Again?????

I know I just had my period a few weeks ago and now today I just got it again. I am not pregnant, haven't felt anything different about my body meaning I haven't felt sick or anything. BUT, yesterday my breasts were sore and my husband commented that I am always on my period. I feel like I AM always on my period. I need to see a gynecologist but need to call a new one I have a number for, our insurance doesn't cover the one I have had for years. Anyway, I needed some thoughts, does anyone know what could cause my having my period frequently? Has anyone had this happen to them. I just wanted some thoughts that could ease my mind until I could see a professional!!! Thank you all!!! E.

What can I do next?

I know how you feel on this one...I talked to my doctor about my issue and she told me it was caused from my birth control pill...My husband had a vasectomy back in March so I stopped taking them last month and she was right the periods stopped coming every week and half to two weeks. I don't know if this will help you but sounded familar so I thought I would share my story.

Its obvious you need to discuss with a Doctor but I will tell you that I always have had irregular cycles and they have never found anything seriously wrong. After my last child was born though it was like my body tried to make up for the ones I use to miss. I was miserable and with my MD decided to go back on birth control to try to regulate my cycle, moods etc... I was having my period sometimes every 3 weeks with spotting in between, breast tenderness, mood swings- I can't remember which pill I tried at the time but I do know now there a couple options that MDs use for that purpose alone. I did eventually come off birth control pills (for the past few years, still have irregular cycles but they are further apart not close together. They never really said why it happened other than hormone related but it was not serious either.

Get with an MD so you can find some peace and feel better.

This happened to me last fall. I was on the pill, and I got my period every 2 weeks, and it lasted for 2 weeks. When I called the gyno. they asked me to wait and see if it happened the next month and then call again. It did, and I called. This time the nurse asked me questions about everything (all was normal, I hadn't missed my pill at all, etc.) and she discussed with the dr. They concluded that it was either a bad batch of pills or I was just reacting to the hormones. I stopped taking the pill instead of trying a different one and things improved although my periods came sooner than they had before this all happened (every 21 - 26 days). I am now trying the Myrena IUD and will see how that works out. Hope everything works out fine for you.

I don't know anything about the periods, but realize you will never know everything. Chill a little! They are babies and they will grow and mature with love and many things there is not a manual for it comes with maturity and experience. You are not the first - first mom to feel this way and you won't be the last. Know that we have all been there and had no manuals. God will take care of the issues you can't and help you with the issues you do know how to handle. Maybe your nerves are on edge and that affects the periods. Take some time and enjoy the children and guit worrying about whether you are doing everything right. Take time to play with them and chuck some of the schedules. You will find you are happier and more relaxed. They will grow really fast and this time with them is most precious.

YES!!! YES!!!! and YES!!! I have had this happen to me. It took forever for someone to figure out what was wrong with me. Don't Hesitate go to a gynecologist insist on having your hormones checked via a blood test. I am not sure if you have had any other symptoms. I did but I just passed it off as age and motherhood. I developed PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome after I had my baby) I suspect I have had this my whole life but with motherhood I wasn't eating as well or excercising as much and that is when it got bad. It was really effecting my mood as well. I don't know what could be wrong with you but pcos is not life threatening just annoying. I started taking a birth control pill called YAZ. (not Yasmin) It is wonderful!!! You may have seen the commercials. They aren't lying. I feel like a new woman. Good luck to you and take care of yourself.

Can't help with your period need to talk to your doc. But as far as knowing everything about raising children , cheer up honey it's the only job on earth still left to " amateurs" and if we had it all figured out" wow " what a boring world this would be , that would mean we were all alike, sit back love them, enjoy them , and don't miss anything you only get one chance they will be grown before you know it.

Nobody knows everything, no matter how many babies they have had or what kind of degree they have. RELAX. You are probably not doing anything wrong, the fact that you care so much means you probably are doing very well. You sound a little stressed, and that may be why you have your period. Your body can get confused because you are stressed, or for some other reason which can make you stressed. Go see one of the doctors and get an opinion. And meanwhile, take some time out for yourself.

Ellen, you don't mention your age and I am wondering if you should have your thyroid checked.. it is a simple blood test.

The other thing is for the past 10 yrs I have had my period for 2 and a half days and it used to be every 28 but it comes every 23-25 days... I would definetly get a BLOOD TEST for PG as sometimes you can bleed and STILL be PG.

Well you didnt say how old you are?So I have a few ideas..you could have been pregnant and had an early miscarriage. It could be early stages of menopause setting your hormones all ascrew?I know after having my second son,16yrs ago now and having my tubes tied, sent my system way out of wack and the only way I can get it back in order straightened out is to go on the pill but within 2mnths of being off it I'm all out of order again. So I just live with it now.Talk to your doctor and see what they have to say..good luck..

You definitely need to go to your OB-GYN. It could just be simply hormonal issues, but it could be something a little more serious.

You didn't mention your age but that may have something to do with it. I am 38 and mine just starting happening every 3 weeks or so. My doc says it is pre-menstruation which is like pre-menopause, right before it. Your body starts changing and your hormones cause it to occur more often. The next stage will be pre-menopause and then menopause. My doc said that if it gets to be an issue or starts to occur every 2 weeks or so, I can get on the pill or take some sort of other birth control to help control hormones. You can probably just make a call to your old doc's nurse and she can tell you what you need to know without having to go in.

Good luck! W.

Hi Ellen....
I completely understand your problem as I have faced so many challenges in this area myself.....I have been through the constant period phase and now have moved on to the constant pain phase and am going to have a hysterectomy in ten days.....and I am only 27....so I urge you to get to a doctor with no delay in mind....it may just be stress or something simple....but it could be serious and need some attention...
Blessings to you..

I had the same problem back when I was in my 20's. I would have your thyroid checked. It is one of the most under diagnosed problems in women. It is a simple blood test to find out...good luck!

As an OBGYN nurse, I was going to write you about this but read the previous post by Cyndi. She is right on. Definitely make an appointment to get it checked out, but don't stress about it. It could just be your hormones are out of whack, and often it's because of your thyroid. They will probably want to do an ultrasound to look at your uterus and the lining, and they'll do some blood work. What they do from there will depend on those results. Do you have a GP that could go ahead and do some preliminary blood-work? That might be a place to start, and then they could recommend someone that your insurance covers and might be able to get you in quicker. Be sure and tell them you're having problems when you call to schedule the appointment. They might be able to work you in sooner. Good luck. Try not to stress about it.

I am not giving any medical advice, but talk to your gynecologist. I don't know your age or history or anything, of course. As I went into my 30s I was having a terrible time with getting my period more and more often. Seemed like I was always PMSing and getting mine. I finally found a gynecologist that was very involved in new treatments, research, etc. She put me on the nuvaring. Now, without trying to sound like a commercial for them ... it changed my life. I do not have nearly the problems I used to - less cramping, totally regular to the day (I had never been in my whole life!), less bloating, etc. It is nice because I am not swallowing any pills. My sister also was suffering badly and has since gone on the ring. She is doing great, too! That all being said, please go talk to a doctor as soon as you can ... we all are very different, and it could be something and it could be nothing. Only tests and an exam can tell for sure. But be sure to ask your doctor about this option and others. I know other women that have found other solutions, too.

sounds like hormones. Are you taking the pill? you may be on the wrong one. No pill? Your body is possibly "out of whack" and you may be put on the for a short while.
Not a really big deal, but one that needs to be discussed with a doctor.

Good luck and God bless!
L.
(been there... done that with this issue... thought I was going nuts, got the hormones back in check and am doing fine.)

Hi Ellen,
Do you have a history of endometriosis? Just a thought. I would guess what you really need is to find an Gyn or at least a good GP that actually takes your insurance. I am on the chapel Hill board- I am not really sure if that means I can only see local postings but I would HIGHLY recommend my general practicioner... I think she is one of the best I have ever met- she did my gyn exams until I got pregnant. Her office is actually in Durham and I am happy to give you the office number so you can call to see if they will take your insurance. As nice as it is to have Mommies give advice you should really be seen.

Best of luck to you.

Hey Ellen!
I am currently having the same problem and went to see my ob/gyn about it a couple of days ago - definitely go see your doctor, but don't stress about it! No sense in worrying over something you can't control (I know easier said than done). They did an ultrasound of my uterus and didn't see anything unusual, so they drew some blood and are doing some tests to look at the different hormone/chemical levels that are related to ovulating and having your period. The doctor explained to me about all of the different hormones/chemicals that are involved with this process in your body - there is a lot that happens so perhaps one of those hormones is out of whack. I'd explain to you about how it works, but don't think I could do it justice!! I'm still waiting for my results. Call and make an appointment with your doctor today and then get on with your life and don't worry! I hope it is nothing (and same for me!)!!

You'll NEVER 'know everything'! LOL

Anyway, do you keep a calculated record of your periods? Just get a pocket calendar and circle or highlight the day that you start each time. If it's more often than every 24 days or so and/or lasting more than 6 days each time, it's probably cause for an exam. Mine were every 24 days for several years (I'm about done with them, now, though - Thank God!)

Oh, and each baby you have can change your pattern of frequency and/or heaviness of flow.

It could be fibroid tumors, which are non-cancerous but can cause problems, one being persistent/heavy periods. Here is some good information about them: http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/fibroidtumors/a/fibroidt...

One thing to know, they are common, often go undetected, non-cancerous, and treatable. But you should make an appointment with your gynecologist just to make sure. I have them, have had them for years, and they don't cause me enough problems to warrant surgery.

I used to work at a pharmacy, and this is not uncommon. If you go to the doctor, he'll most likely write a prescription for some hormones to make you stop.

In the meantime, you may want to watch what you eat. There are a lot of foods that have hormones in them or substances that act like female hormones. You may just be a little super-sensitive to some of these. While I don't know what all foods have these things, chicken and beef are usually top of the list for hormones; and soy has been found by some studies to mimic some female hormones. You may find that if you keep a food diary that you can sort of figure out if any of this may be affecting things.
