I am looking for some unique (but not WEIRD) baby GIRL names.

Any suggestions?

I like Quinn, but I have a friend that just named her baby that....so it would be weird.

I have a daugher named Madison

What can I do next?

I have a friend with two daughters; Madison & Morgan. I think those two names go very well together. I also think another "destination" name would be nice as well like Brooklyn, Savannah, Dakota.

Have fun choosing!

I like traditional names for children, but if you're looking for something interesting why not try looking into your family's heritage and check names from ancestry. Maybe you can find an old name and make it new again.

I think Quinn is a great name. Don't feel weird about it at all. Also, go to the Social Security website. It will tell you popular names by year up to 2010 or 11...You can go as far back as the early 1900's
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
That may help you...good luck. A baby's name is so personal. How about any family namesakes?

If I had it to do over, I would name my girl Landry Elizabeth. I named her Jadyn Elizabeth and there are boys and girls named Jadyn in her age group.

When in doubt, scour your ancestry or extended family for a family member to honor.

Go to ancestry.com and start pouring through names from the past couple hundred years.

SO MUCH FUN

I had a list around here once that had about 50 names from my own tree, that you just don't see children named with these days (and are rarely in baby books or sites), many extraordinarily beautiful, some fun. AND while "unique" it wasn't things like adding random y's or mixed up spellings... but unique by going CLASSIC. Family names, names hundreds of years old.

I wish I could find that list, but here are a few of the ones that stuck:

Some are "Oy! Oh yeah, that's right, Rhode Island broke away from the puritans in their own "hippie" movement!!! I'd forgotten that!" Names like Freelove, Joy, True, Grace, Delight, Sunrise... conversely.... jump back a generation into plymouth or puritan colonies and you find Temperance, Surety, Purity, Constance, etc.

Back further, and there are old world names Anneka, Wintje (pronounced Wiley), Alec, Dannik, Danilo, Corrin, Wolf, Storm, Allesandro...

Jump ahead, and find names like Electra, Fatima, Marjorie, Alessandra, Eunice, Eleanor, Helen, Mable, Ruby....

Or go historical. The romans all named their children the same ((after the father... Just as some Marcus = dad, then all the boys were also named Marcus, and the girls would be Marca. Aeliana or Aelianus, Julia or Julius (technically Iulia or Iulius), Claudia or Claudius)).... BUT #2 onward had nicknames. #5 would be Quinta or Quintus, a redhead might be Rufus. If this is a #2 baby onward... there are a LOT of fun "number" nicknames that could actually coincide with your baby's birth. I was saving Quin for #5, myself, but it looks like I'm to only have one.

Anyhow... just some thoughts
________

Oh! I wanted to name one of my daughter's Madison ever since I saw Splash! (where the name was popularized as a girl name). The mermaid (Daryl Hannah) looked up at a street sign and said essentially; "How about that name? Madison, I like Madison." and Tom Hanks tried to argue her out of it, but it stuck. Which opens another option for you: Presidents or Revolutionaries (Taylor, Pierce, Hayes, Carter, Harrison, Adam, Franklin, Lincoln, Abigale, Ross, Eleanor) or street signs / squares (Lex, Élysées, Calle, Dalton, Ashe, Hana, Fiori, etc.)

I have two daughters: Kaya and Maren. We too wanted a unique but not too different of a name for each, but their names still get mispronounced, which I did not foresee.

How about Dylan, Brady, Siena, Calen.....

I love Quinn, but think one syllable names generally make better middle names. So use it! I like marley spelled with the y instead of ee, but I wanted my kids to have different initials, so of you think the same and already have a Madison. It mostly depends on what your last name is, if it ends in a similar sound (ie marley Finley), then not a good fit! I like: Avery, Annabelle, Anna, Amelia, Audra, Audrey, brynn, bailey, Cassidy, clara, Charlotte, clementine, Delia, Eliza, elyse/Elise, elle, Evelyn, Finley,, Gwendolyn, Harper, Jane, Jillian, Kate, Naomi, Natasha, nina, Norah, peyton, Paige, Sabrina, Stella, tabitha, taryn, Veronica, Vivienne. Congrats!

I named my daughter June. I also really like Raelynn. Also Lila (like the end syllable of vanilla). I was completely in love with the name Lila Fern but it was firmly vetoed.

Also, one of our first names we both sort of liked was Fionna. Yes, there's the Shrek connotation, but after a few years it won't be as strong. Families didn't care for it much...

I have a cousin named Elise - I've always liked her name.

Also, while going through "J" names I liked Jocelynn, Joleen, Joylyn.

Also, Shoshanna - beautiful!!

I have a Reagan and a Riley, wasn't going for an "R" theme but it just happened that way. My niece is a Madison and her sister is Makenna super cute together, even though Madison goes by Maddie and Makenna goes by Kenny. My other nieces are Genevieve and Olivia. My first daughter is Reagan and I love that it's a boyish name for a girl but I had to kind of stick to another boyish name for my second, so that's how Riley came about. I couldn't have one with a girly name and one with a boyish name. I love the name Airabella i think it's very pretty, maybe if we have another girl we'll one day she'll break the boy theme lol.

My daughter is Kaelyn and I LOVE it. But it is becoming more popular.

My sister had considered using Kennasyn, but went with Audrey.

Names that are not so popular are hard to come by, because once you name your child that, of course you will hear it a lot more.

My youngest is Keaton. I babysat for a boy named Keaton when I was in HS and LOVED the name then. Other than my son and that little boy, we heard one mom call her son Keaton at one of my husband's ball games I looked at her wide eyed and asked her what name she said! We were both shocked to find another Keaton!

My daughter's friends have two daughters, named Willow and Lily.... (and now a son named Sean)...

Other more unusual names I have seen are Blessing, Linen, Lillian, (an 8th grader I know), Teagen, (an infant and a college student), my name (Malia... pronounced like Maria, but with an L instead of an R... like President Obama's daugher), Linnaea, (I girl I knew in college), Shila/Shyla,Trinity, Kylie/Kylee..... some of these names are ones I have seen in the middle school I work in.

If I'd had a girl I would have named her True. It is easy to read, say and spell, has a great meaning, and is totally unique in that I've never met a True.

Just so you know, many of the people responding gave top 100 names or names that are super popular. Just check a couple of baby naming sites on any names you consider strongly and see where they fall.

Happy naming whatever you choose.
