We have not had good luck finding an occassional babysitter who is reliable, fun and trustworthy. We are looking for someone for next week, so any/all suggestions would be very welcome. We live in The Colony so someone local (within a 15 mile radius) would be preferrable. Thank you!

Have you tried sittercity.com? I actually asked the caretaker at the kids club at the gym I work out at to babysit for us and we've been using her for 1 year now. :)
Sittercity is great b/c they have reviews and feedback, plus background checks.

Our neighborhood has a website where people can "advertise" availablility for babysitting.

Also, check with neighbors and friends to get a reference. We have no family around and missing date night was not an option. In the beginning, I used AAA Service to get a sitter guaranteed and after that I would get out and walk on nice days and when I saw a neighbor with daughter's I'd ask about babysitting.

That happens to my daughter now everytime she is at the park with friends.

Also, checking with the high school and community colleges is a good idea.

Good luck

P.,
I would contact your local middle/high school and speak with the counselor, I'm sure there are students that are in honor societies, good grades, that would like to do it. The counselor can have the students contact you. Just a suggestion, or maybe if you go to church ask around there. Or just ask some of the pastor's in the area, there are a lot of girls that probably just don't know.
Good Luck!
