Need a Good Teething Toy for 4 Month Old

My 4 month old is trying to put everything in her mouth. She gets frustrated because the things she's coordinated enough to hold don't fit in her mouth. Does anyone recommend a specific brand of teething toy that their baby loves? Thanks

How about cold watermelon? It's messy, but kids love it. I brought my highchair outside for this treat and rinsed my baby off afterwards. Great for a hot day!

My kids used to love the soft plastic ones filled with water, and I'd put it in the refrigerator so it's cold - very soothing. But that was 10 years ago, so I don't know if they still make them! All the baby stuff is so different now.

I agree with Irene....get Sophie the giraffe! My daughter absolutely loved it and took it to bed with her every night. it has a long skinny neck that tiny hands can hold on to. i bought mine at The Right Start but you can find it on line as well. I also used to put small wash cloths in the freezer and she'd suck on them. The other thing she seemed to like was frozen fruit (i'd get a bag of pineapples or mangos from trader joes) & put a piece or two in those safe mesh feeding bags. Good Luck!

Don't laugh - when my youngest was teething only a frozen bagel would do!

It's a giraffe called Sophie. It's from France. You can usually find it in boutique type shops or you can get it online. I buy it for all my friends who are having babies. It's the BEST!! :)

Hi J.-

Both my kids loved the "Yummy" from Discovery Toys. They used to love them so much that I would buy them to accessorize baby/shower gifts when my friend's had babies. I just went on DT website and it looks like it has changed to the "Super Yummy" which is much more fancier then it used to be, (my youngest is now 10.) but if you have the chance, I would pick it us. It's $10.00.

Let me know if you have any questions!

You've got some great suggestions so far :) Every baby is different so you've got to try a bunch of different things and see which one she likes.

The sophie giraffe is great
Frozen washcloth
Amber teething necklaces
Soothie pacifiers from the freezer (this was my daughter's preference)
First Years star vibrating teether
And my favorite homeopathic remedy is Camilia from whole foods. It comes in a tiny capsule that you squeeze the liquid out so it's very easy to give to them. It has only 3 ingredients (all natural), and it really works.

Those are the things I always recommend... I hope that helps!

Take care,
D.

Hi There is this new or I guess rather old more retro giraffe that is on the market that is selling out. A few of my girlfriends have it and they say it is great. maybe you can google it to see. But they swear by it .

Good luck! I can also ask them the name and manufacturer if intersted.

At Ralph's Grocery store or Toys R Us there is a yellow rubber star with a blue handle. The star vibrates when baby bites down on it-WONDERFUL! FYI-after using Baby Orajel for several days in a row he developed a sensitivity to it and broke out in blisters,so use with caution.

There is a Sassy Baby toy which my son loved. It's a wooden teething toy in the shape of a chick. It's got various types of ribbon tied to it which he loved chewing/sucking on in addition to the actual wooden part. It's colorful & eye catching. He loved this toy for many months. I found it at Babies r us, but I've seen it elsewhere also.

My baby loves the Raz-berry. It looks like a pacifier but it's bumpy all over. It's really easy for him to hold because it is small, so he will chew on it for hours! We got ours at Babies R Us=)

All four of my children gnawed on the plastic "hand" and "foot". The circle opening mad them easy to hold and I could use links to attach them to the stroller, etc. When your baby is older (eating real food) frozen celery is the BEST! Just freeze some celery sticks. As your (a bit older) baby chews on it, the cold helps, the celery that falls off is in very small bits, and the strings remain (to be thrown out).

Hope you and your sweet girl have a fun summer!

this happened to my son as well & the only thing that worked in the beginning was a frozen washcloth. Now he is 7 months and he is able to figure out all the teething toys. his favorite now are the little nets that you can put fresh fruit or ice in (I think they are made by munchkin). we put a piece of ice in and he loves it! goodluck :-)

I also have a 4 month old who is at the very early stages of teething, just sucking on her hands and drooling. Someone told me to wet a baby washcloth and put it in the freezer or refrigerator. She should have an easier time holding onto this and sucking on it.

I'm in the Hollywood area if you are looking to get together with a mom who also has a 4 month old daughter.

Best of luck,
Liz

Get a washcloth wet, twist it and freeze it. It is the best... numbs and satisfies that gnawing urge all at the same time!

Try the fake ice cubes. I have different shapes and my daughter always like putting it in her mouth during teething( i bought mine off ebay for cheap). Its not messy and stays cold for some time...Plus you just rinse with soap and water and throw them back in the fridge. Theres your endless supply of ice cubes without the hassled of getting ice at the store or filling ice trays and really dont have to worry about choking cause there too big to fit that far into there mouth.

ice chips you can let her get them or wrap in a clean cloth the teething toys with water that you freeze have the potential, if the child should make a small hole, to have bacteria growing in the solution and you have no way of knowing and it could make your child very sick I learned this from the Chief of paramedics (retired)
