I am not having any luck picking a name for my little boy. I am almost 32 weeks (due Oct 29th) and cant come up with anything. I want a name that is unique/different, but not too off-the-wall. I would like his middle name to be Ivan (after my grandfather) and his sisters name is Cheyenne. Any help would be great!!!!
Well I finally picked a name....Denali Ivan. It is native american and means "the great one". Plus i figured with his sister having a native american name why not stick with the same trend?! Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.

I like the idea about watching film credits. I did that. I saw an old movie and told my husband we were naming the kid AXLEROD if he didn't agree to a good boys name. It was on the film credits and sounded funny to me. We choose Brody.
I like Sam with Cheyenne, they go together well. Wesley and Wyatt are more unique though.

I know it is very hard picking baby names. My son in now 4 1/2 months old, but when I was pregnant with him my husband and I could not agree on anything that we liked. We ended up each picking the name that we liked the best and had them written down and did not end up naming him until after he was born. We also did the same thing with my first son. I know it may sound strange, but I have a preference on certain letters that I like for first names. Basically I just wrote down the letters that I liked best and then went through name books to see what I could find. My son's names are Kaden Edward (Edward is my husband's middle name) and Kellen Charles (Charles was my father's name). I hope I was able to help a little and good luck on picking that name!!

I heard the name Chason the other day...pronounced like Jason...and I thought it was so cool. And it would be a Ch name like your daughters which is kind of cute! Chason Ivan would work I think...it sounds good together.
Also, I was reading your other responses and I'm sure you didn't write your request to be criticized for your choice of a middle name. Ivan is a great name. I wish people would realize how hurtful rude and misplaced comments like that can be. So I just want to remind everyone that we all use this site to be supportive and helpful to other Mom's and to get advice and support when we need it as well. We should be respectful and kind and remember that advice is one thing but criticism is different and can be very hurtful.
Sorry...getting down off my soap box now...lol! Good luck in the name game and enjoy that sweet little boy when he gets here.
Congratualtions!

Looking over the ideas you've been given already, I would have to say these are the ones I like(with Ivan): Lucas, Zackary, Wesley, Nicholas, Thomas, Matthew and I thought of Sawyer which I think would go nice with Cheyenne. I don't really like the sound of two names together that end in -an, -en, -in or -on(like Jason Ivan). It's also hard to know what would flow with your last name. By the way, my daughter was born on Oct. 29! We named her after two good friends, one of which had just died in an accident. We wanted to give our son the same middle name as my brother(who was born premature and didn't survive) so we picked Luke Anthony, and since discovered that there are a lot of Lukes around! Good luck and congratulations!

I feel your pain. We went around and around regarding our son's name 3 years ago. Here's a list of some of the names we considered:
Wesley (we would have called him Wes)
Gavin
Aaron
Ari
Cole
Brock
Hamish (Pronounced with a long A sound; admittedly different, but we're Scottish and would call him Ham. We also considered Seamus.)
Bartholomew
Ezekiel
Xavier
Xander
Reid
Chase
Noble
Shane
Seth
Ian
Nolan
Sullivan (calling him Sully)
August
Mason
Magnus
Hope this gives you some ideas.

I love the name Noah. I wanted to name my son that but we made him a Jr instead. I think it is heard enough not to be weird but is not extremely common. It would also sound good w/ Ivan. It also has good meaning behind it & comes from the bible. Just my thoughts.

What fun!
Ivan is a Slavic variation of John - so Russian, Ukranian, etc. is going to "go" a lot better - unless your last name is Rosselini or something obviously of another nationality! Perhaps names like Jacob, Nicholas, Alexander, Dimitri, Garrett...
You have to let us know what you decide!!! Good luck.

hi L.,
choosing a name is hard!! one thing to think of is what his initials will be. i know it sounds silly, but if his middle name is ivan, and his last name will begin with r, take into consideration what his first name will start with. kids with initials that spell something embarassing will get picked on terribly. i know it sounds superficial, but as a teacher i can tell you it will happen.
as for picking his name, do you have an absolute favorite book character, movie character, musician, etc.? is there a person in your life who is or was so special you'd like to honor them with the same name? also, if you have something very dear to you (like a favorite album, bible verse, whatever) you could try creating a name by using the letters from something else.
before we knew i was having a boy, i tried to come up with a girls name. i took all the first names of each of the members of The Beatles & scrambled them. i then tried creating a name by using those letters.
also, something unusual now might not be later. i thought my son's name (maxwell) was not common & all of a sudden every little boy is named max :(

What is your nationality? I know Ivan is slovic. Look up names in Slovic or whatever your families nationality is. I know the older names are very original and not used very much!!! Or look up "c" names to match your daughter!(I personally LOVE the name Corwin and call him corey) Google baby name search engine and you'll find so many places for names you'll find one in no time. Hope this helps! M. p.s. how are you saying ivan? My ex is from slovkia and they say it with a short i not the long i like we do?that can make a difference when you say the name together to make it flow. http://www.babynameaddicts.com/

Hi L. I am also 32 weeks pregnant with a boy, and my husband and I are naming him after my Mom's maiden name. His name will be Bowen Daniel. My other son's name is Bryson Matthew. Have you ever thought about a family name....we also thought about using Boston for a first name for this one as well, but I really like the fact that I can honor my mom's memory and name him after her:) good luck and something will come to you eventually.

How about: Foster, Dutton, Hobart, Galvin, Keegan. Tucker, or Jonas? I've noticed in our area that the unusual names are becoming the norm and the "common" names aren't as common anymore. There are no Michaels, Joes, Jacobs, or Keiths in either of my kids classes. But there are a ton of Dominiques, Makaylas, and Zytorianas. So that maybe something to keep in mind. Good Luck!

You have a few weeks left and maybe you can check your family tree for a name that suits you. My husband and I had the hardest time naming our youngest child until we were able to lay eyes on her and then we gave her a name. He said from the start he wanted to name a girl "princess". I took it as a joke until we looked at her and named her Sarah--(princess in Hebrew.) Right now "old" names are very different. Thomas Ivan, William Ivan, Charles Ivan, Mathew Ivan.....it can go on and on. Look toward your past and you may find your future.

Hi L.,
Congratulations! I have a 9 yr. old son(Colton Alexander) & a 22 month old daughter(Erica Lynn). Are you wanting the names to start with the same letter? I thought about doing that, my husbands mom did that (Richard, Randy, Rhonda, Rodney), that's a lot of R's to say really fast! I picked my sons name...my husband wanted Colt...which sounds cool, but I wanted it to flow a little easier with his middle name. I had heard the name Colton and it flowed perfectly. You will definately want at least a 2 syllable name. If you haven't already done so, pickup a baby name book and then say prayer asking GOD to help you. I'm sure whatever name you decide on will be perfect for him. Blessings to you and your little ones.

Hi L.!
Try www.babynames.com - cool site, gives you names, meanings, and if you become a member, you can save names you like and try out different combinations.
Also, don't forget, sometimes nicknames or initials can be used to tease kids, so try every combination to ensure that won't happen too often.
Good luck!

That is a tough one. I named my son Caden just because it is different. My husband at the time wanted to name him Suede--like leather. I told him heck no. My son's middle name is Zane. I think that is a neat interesting name for a boy. But I may just be prejudice! I also like the name Liberty.....have you tried the baby name book? I hope I have helped or at least have made you scratch your head....

I like different names as well, mine is C., sounds like Teresa, but with the Ch sound. I like kids names that rhyme; my boys are Dalton and Preston. I didn't hear too many Preston's until I named him that, of course. I really like the name Cheyenne, different but not too off the wall, like you said!!!
I looked up babynamesworld.com and just browsed for a minute and I found Lucas and Drew, both of those sound unique with Ivan..There are numerous resources with millions of names on the web.

I have a boy named Justin Andrew. What about Justin Ivan?
When I was pregnant with my daughters, we liked lots of names, but couldn't agree on anything but Shane Daniel.
Here are some more suggestions, that go well with the middle name "Ivan":
Daniel
Caleb
Logan
Christian or Christopher (which goes really well with Cheyenne)
I know whatever you pick will be perfect!
Good Luck!
