We will be moving to Castle Rock from another state mid October--my hubby was promoted and we are all really excited to move into our new home and neighborhood. I would like your feedback about the following Pediatricians--Perry Street Pediatrics. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if you have any info about pre-school and pre-K programs offered in the area, I would love to hear about them.
Thanks so much!!!

Perry Street Pediatrics is awesome! We see Dr. Sheehan who has a more homeopathic approach, and also see Dr. Thomas. The nurses and office staff are great, too.

I have lived in Castle Rock for past year and a half. We have tried La Petite, Kindercare and we now have our 4 year old son at Primrose. He has been there for the past year. He is in Pre K and we absolutely love it. I highly recommend the school. Give them a call, you can set up an appointment and tour the school. You can also tell them you spoke with me, T. Mounce. Good luck with the move.

There is a Douglas County Montessori School in Castle Pines North (north of Castle Rock). Because it's a charter school, there is no tuition charged from kindergarten up, though there are trip fees and such. Pre-school requires tuition. Kids who go to the pre-school receive preferred consideration for admission to the kindergarten/elementary. I haven't done the tour yet because my daughter is still a couple years away, but what I've read has been very positive.
Good luck!

Hi T.,
My husband and I moved to Castle Rock two years ago from PHX. for a job promotion and we love it. We also really like Perry St. Pediatrics. It was actually recommended to us by a friend who moved to Castle Rock before us.

I have a 4 year old and an 11 month old and they both see Dr. Thomas most of the time. He is very attentive to details and has worked with my 4 year old who has asthma and who recently started having seizures. Their office works well with my son's Neurologist as well. I like that the office is small with four or five doctors who are all very professional but at the same time take time to talk with you. The nursing staff is also really great! They also keep appt. times, and I don't think I've ever had to sit in the waiting room for more than 5 minutes.

At our Pediatricians in Phoenix we felt like a number, and I often felt like the doctors would rush in and out and sometimes even talk down to us.

I definitely recommend Perry St. Peds. if it is on your list.

About preschools:
Douglas County Preschools are really good. My son is at Cantril Preschool and he is learning a great deal. The staff is excellent. His school is a little older, but I know there are a lot of newer schools as well, depending on where you live in Castle Rock. If you are looking more for private education, Southeast Christian Church in Parker has a Pre-k thru 8th grade school. We also considered them.

I hope this helps, I'm excited for you - Castle Rock is a great community with tons of families. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. I hope your move goes well!

Yours truly,
M. Fastrup

You'll love it in Castle Rock, unfortunately I don't know of any preschools and peds - I live in Highlands Ranch. I do know of an awesome church, which is Jubilee Fellowship Church off the Wolfensberger exit! And they're having a super fun party on Oct. 31st called Hallapalooza, with games and bouncers....Let me know if you want any other info!

Hi T.-
We live in Castle Rock, but do not use Perry St Peds. However, I have a 4 year old in preschool. He attends the pre-K program at the Castle Rock Rec Center and we have been very happy. It is educational and very well priced. It is 2 hours and 45 minutes, 3 days a week for $150 per month. The Douglas County pre-K is $290 a month for 4, 2.5 hour classes.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your move and welcome to Colorado.

I have been taking my little ones to perry street since they were born and we have been very happy there. we see Dr. Thomas for most appts, although we have also seen DR. Lurie and Sheehan and we have been very happy with them as well. everyone is very personable and the office staff is great....which in my opinion is very important b/c you deal with them very often. we have never waited long in the waiting room as well.
as far as preschools, i would recommend one of the douglas county preschools compared to centers such as kindercare, la petite, etc. the teacher to student ratio is much lower and the teachers have more qualifications. there are never more than 15 children in a class with a MINIMUM of 2 adults at all times.... (most often there are more staff as well as less than 15 b/c most sites do not fill to capacity). you can go online to the douglas county school district's website and find out all of the info. your child can either go 4 half days or 2 half days. prices are reasonable as well. if i knew where you were moving in castle rock i could make a specific recommendation, although all of the preschools in the county are well respected.

Dear T.,
There are several doctors here in Castle Rock, a few not specialized in pediatrics, but are wonderful doctors who attend to children and their parents' concerns. I have 11 grandchildren and trust their health problems to my personal physician at Castle Rock Family Physicians should it arise. Castle Rock is a small town and growing every day and the schools are close by, high school, junior high and elementaries. Since you didn't say approximately where you will be residing I can only tell you that most of the doctors are located within town. I hope this small info will somewhat ease your mind concerning your children.
I've lived here for over 20 years and my children attended elementary school and graduated from Douglas County High School.
As for pre-K and pre-school there are several here in C.R. for example: La Petite, Castle Academy, Primrose School of C.R. and more.

Much aloha,
AuntyMom
