Need Help Finding Larger Potty Chair?

My son who is tall and skinny is 2 1/2 years old. He is not a big kid but when he sits on the potty chair(the safety 1st brand 2 in 1 step stool) we bought him, his "goods" are not behind the pee guard, like the seat is not big enough for him. We are not exactly training yet, its just there for him to get used to. We are going to buy another one for downstairs, so I am trying to find out are they all one standard size? Or is that the way boys sit on potty chairs and they have to push their goods behind the guard?

What can I do next?

I have the same chair, same type of kid....I DO NOT like that chair, too small, guard falls off. I got a Baby Bjorn seat that goes on the floor, the guard is attached and seems to be a good size for my son. I also have just a little seat that goes on top of the regular toilet. Its ok, the hole is large enough and guard stays on pretty well. I just have to lift him onto it. He likes the little one cause he can go by himself and is usually quiet pleased with his "work". The safety first chair is just too small all around.

just put him on the regular toilet. he'll hold himself up. my son has always used it, and preferred it over the potty seat. I had to get rid of his potty seat, he just won't use it. i tried the thing on the toilet that makes the seat smaller, but he didn't like it either and his "goods" weren't behind the guard either.
just tell him he's doing so good and he's such a big boy, that he can use the big people potty.
my son is now 2 1/2 and just goes to the potty by himself. ITS WONDERFUL. ;-)

I do not have a son, however I recall when my mother was training my brother they just had him stand and taught him how to aim. It might be a little messy in the beginning, I know many family members he got wet..lol. But, because your son is tall this might be easier for him. Has he ever seen how Daddy does it? Or a male figure? Maybe you can show him the proper way, and you would be surprised how quickly he may catch on!

Best Of Luck!!

Try getting the seat that attaches to your toilet. It is just a ring that fits over top so they do not fall in. He can hold his "goods" down into the toilet. I like those better anyway, no cleaning, just flushing and they don't have to then learn how to get on a big toilet then.

Good luck! W.

My second son was and is still very tall for his age. When it came to potty training, I had him stand like Daddy from the beginning. If it was #2, we then sat on the big potty with an adapter seat. And yes, he had to learn to point his pee pee down.

My kids didn't like the potty chairs, so we got the seat that sits on top of the toilet seat. You can get these at Target or Wal-Mart. They come with different characters on them, so your son can pick out the one he likes. We have a Sesame Street one and a Dora one. It comes with a guard that you can attach for little boys. It's a lot easier for you too...not much clean up since everything goes right into the toilet. You may need to put a stool in front of the toilet if he starts going by himself. My son didn't use this long because he wanted to go potty like daddy and started standing really early into the training process.

I bought TWO of those same potty chairs for my son, and had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!! I am so glad it wasn't just me! I was so frustrated that I had spent time and money getting those, and he couldn't get his little thing down to pee. So now we just use them as stools to stand on when he washes his hands. I ended up buying those little seats that you put on the big potty seat. They are a lot easier (and cheaper!). I got mine at Walmart. Before I got these I had him stand up on the potty/stool and he would pee like a "big boy" he now prefers this. But we use the insert seat to sit and poop (or at least try!).
I hate that we both wasted our money on the Safety 1st ones! Good luck with potty training! It hasn't been nearly as hard as I expected!

My little one is 28 months and he has started potty training also. He has to push his pee pee down behind the gaurd or else he will spray the bathroom. I just bought him a seat that sits on the big potty and he seems to like that better. He still has to push his pee pee down with that seat too though. My little boy isn't as tall so I didn't have that problem, but I would reccomend trying the seat on the big potty in your second bathroom. They love to flush the toilet and throw in toilet paper. Good luck this takes lots of patience!

well since your son is tall could you just turn him around facing the toilet and have him straddle it? If you are looking for a good chair, the baby bjorn potty is pretty large and has great reviews for boys. I have one of these upstairs and i have the cushie tushi seat insert downstairs. I have to say that my son is only almost 10 months old and the insert seems to be getting smaller each day. I kind of wish i hadnt bought either now that ive done the straddling method but i dont know if your son can get in that position by himself. i have to do it for my son bc he cant walk yet! But good luck with the training!

We bought a seat from One Step Ahead that attaches to your regular toilet (between the lid and the regular seat). Adults just flip it out of the way. It worked great!!

My son is also very tall for his age, he just turned 3. At 2 and a half, I also potty trained him. Yes, he had to scoot back on the little potty to make sure everythng went where it was suppose to. It wasn't a problem really though. Now we have graduated to the potty piece that goes on top of the regular potty.

I dont' think they make large children's potty though.

my son is almost 2 1/2 and we have the same problem. I found one seat that sits on top of the big toilet, but the guard that was up to prevent him from peeing straight out almost ripped his "goods" off trying to get up on the toilet (the guard was almost square and very tall). So, I bought a different seat that you put on the big toilet the the guard was a little shorter and round, but from the position he sits on the toilet the pee would have hit the guard and splashed right back at him. So, I think the solution is to sit him back on the big toilet and tell him to open his legs wide and that positions the "goods" at a perfecet aim. He will eventually hold himself up on his own. Another option we tried, and is working great, is the Peter Potty. It's a little urinal. At first I thught it was a big mistake. He thought it was a toy at first, then refused to use it, then all of a sudden he's pulling his pull-up down and going by himself. They have to stand REAL close to it, though. Oh, like a previous poster stated, sitting him backwards on the toilet works well too.

good luck

Just have him sit backward on a regular toilet seat. I'm not sure why, but somehow the boys sit more securely that way and all that have to do is lean forward a little for good aim. Good luck!

I have a pretty big kid too. The "Royal Potty" is small too. I found that the easiest thing was to get one of those potty seat inserts that goes right on top of your regular toliet seat. You can use your potty seat you already have as a stool... It's one less step to transition to a potty too. :-) The only thing is you have to teach him how to aim. I still remind him to "tuck it in" when he goes, but it has been great for the most part.

I had good luck using a smaller seat goes over the larger seat and flips up so adults can easily sit down. If your boy is tall and depending on how high your potty is, you might not need a step stool. Nice thing is that it is inexpensive, goes over the regular seat, and clean up is no problem.

I have two daughters so, I can't relate to the problem that you are having. However, my oldest (3) is also very tall and skinny. We trained her on the potty seats that you buy at Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot,.... The kind that fits on top of the regular toilet seat. They also come with a pee guard. I would try that.
Good luck on the steps towards potty training! It definitely sounds like he's interested if he is sitting on it during this first stage of getting him acquainted with the potty.
Hope the advice helps!

im not sure if you are saying hes tall making this a problem, if you are get one of the chairs that just sits on the toilet. if his goods are the issue well have him push them behind the gaurd or tell him to hold it down while peeing...(he will use that later in life anyway lol) good luck

I did this for my daughter. They make the potty seats that just sit on the toilet---spongebob. Lowe's, walmart, and target have them. I would buy two seats and another stool for the two bathrooms. It really works great and plus no mess to worry with.
