Do not use any products by Johnson & Johnson (shampoos, lotions.) Use some very light lotion and add some tea tree oil. Works everytime. I have some lotion that has it already added. It takes my little one's rashes away in 2 applications. Hope this helps

I would say if she all of a sudden developed a rash, it may be an allergic reaction to the toilet paper. Remember a female's body is very sensitive in that area. The TP residue may have gotten in her and caused a UTI (this is one of the possible ways to get one if you don't wipe clean). Take her to the doctor and see what they say.

It seems like different things work for different kids. Butt paste and Desitin both worked great on my oldest. With my youngest, we have to let him air dry for awhile after each change and then smear a thick layer of a&d ointment (not cream, the greasy one) over him.

Did you change to feel and learn diapers/pull ups? My daughter was allergic to them. I think it had something to do with the urine staying close to the skin (so they can feel that they're wet). We found that she can only wear Pampers easy ups.

The easiest and quickest way I know of without back-peddaling your potty-time progress is to give her frequent baths in un-soapy water with baking soda dissolved in the water first. The baking soda will help cleanse and sooth her bottom. After the bath Desitin (or Aquafor) followed by cornstarch baby powder rubbed in all over the area.
Mom of 4
PS - If you can, let her run around pantsless at home.

Hi C.,

I have a 9 yr old and a 7 yr old and they both had the same problem. Never had diaper rash until they started potty training. I think it came from us using really good diapers before potty training, so as soon as they wet, the diaper pulled the moisture away from their skin. I'm not sure what's causing your daughter's rash, but could it be that she "leaks" a little bit into the panties? Or if she's in Pull Ups, sometimes those are designed to leave the moisture against the skin for a bit, for the purpose of making the child uncomfortable enough to use the potty BEFORE they wet.

My suggestion would be to use Pull Ups and for one or two days, treat it like you would treat a baby's diaper rash. You can use Desitin or any other diaper rash cream you like. It should clear up in a couple days and then you can resume where you were. If your daughter is in panties, and you really don't want to back-step to Pull Ups, sometimes Cornstarch, or baby powder containing cornstarch can help. Or you can put Vagisil powder in the panties as well. Just make sure she's not "leaking" or having accidents in the panties without you knowing...

The rash/discomfort could be the ENTIRE reason that she has slacked in the potty training area. If it's itchy/burning when she urinates, she probably doesn't want to fool with the new "big potty" idea right now.

I hope this helps and if you have any other concerns, please feel free to ask or email me: ____@____.com

Are you using any type of Pull Up? My daughter had the same problem when we were potty training her, and it turned out that she was allergic to the lining that was in the pamerpers pull ups. We had to stop using pull ups all together. We ened up just putting her into regular under pants. It my get a little messy sometimes, but it was well worth it in the end. The diaper rash went away almost instantly after stopping the pampers.. How it all gets better for you.

It needs to be washed and dried and then just leave the diaper or pullup off. Yes, There will be many carpet cleanups but that is what helped my daughte. My sister in law swears by (spelling wont be exact) Budreauxs but paste it is in the baby isle at cvs-rite aid ect. My daughter had a bad case one time-so raw-She cried and screamed when even water touched her hinney. I just aired her out and it helped so much.
Good luck,

well i know they have this spray on diaper rash stuff. not sure of the name. i know the walmart in Conn. sells it, but i know ours doesn't..i know makes great sense. but maybe there is a store around here that does. my son always gets them, he's just very prone to them, since he was a day old (yep, a day). the worst was when he had a yeast infection one...horrible. we had to get a special medicated creme. try the doctor's, he'll perscribe something. good luck.

I use this really terrific creamy ointment called Boudreaux's Butt Paste. I know, the name sounds crazy, but it works! I use it on my daughter and it clears up any rashes withing 24 hours (usually faster than that!). It also helped my son when he suffered through a recent bout of diarrhea. I cant' say enough goo things about it. You can buy it at Target or Babies R Us. Good luck to you and your daughter! Hope she feels better soon!

Hi C.,

When she goes potty do you let her wipe or do you wipe her. My daughter gets frequent YI (yeast infections) cause she has a problem with her bowls pushing against her bladder....put she has a pooping prob, but use kandoos or the cottonelle wipes(they seemed to help and ease pain) and you wipe her and make sure she is totally clean and dry before you pullup her pants...diaper rash is caused by the wettness against the skin.Use a lotromin creme too it may take it away faster. hope this helps.

You could try this. . .

Magic Butt Paste

1 tube of A&D
1 small tube of Neosporin
1 large tube of Zinc-oxide
2 Tbsps of Mylanta
Mix together and put in an airtight container.

Another is:
equal parts
Lotrimin AF- for any fungal or yeast infection
Neosporin-for any bacteria infection
Hydrocortisone-for relief of skin irritation

There is also Lansinoh (for breastfeeding), Lotrimin, Crisco

Also if it is not going away with anything you try then it could be a yeast infection or like the other person said have her checked for MRSA.

Water - sometimes when we don't drink enough water our urine can become very strong and burn. On top of applying the diaper rash cream or vasoline, have her drink clear water. Like with a bladder infection water will flush her system and hopefully clear out what ever is causing the rash.
Good Luck!

The best I've found is triple paste. You can buy it over the counter but its expensive. 8 oz tube is $9.00 but worth every penny. The rash clears up over night! Your pharmacist may have to order for you. I have seen it at Target though.

Good luck

Ok most people look at me weird when I suggest this, but.... 1)my doctor is the one who told me about it and 2)It has worked for me EVERY time on both my kids!!

Go to Wal-mart and go to the foot care aisle. Get the Wal-mart brand (Equate)athelete's foot cream. That's not what they call it of course and I don't have a tube of it right now to check on for you. Make sure you get the cream though, not the ointment! Just put that on her and the rash will go away!!

When my oldest daughter was training, she got the worst case of diaper rash for some reason. I tried everything but the only thing that worked like magic was Desitin (the original version not the creamy). She felt much better instantly and it was healed in about 24 hours - 48 hours.

Are you sure it is diaper rash? What does it look like. My daughter just got over something called MRSA , which is a highly contagious skin infection. I too thought it was diaper rash and I was sadly mistaken.

Try Boudreaux's Butt Paste. This is the only cream I will use. You should be able to find it just about anywhere but I do know that wal-mart and babies-r-us sell it.

Hi C.,
That happened to my daughter too. You have to make sure she is dry when she pees- takes a bath everything. I just saw my peditrician yesterday and she said use vasoline. I used that before and it didn't take the pain away. Another Dr. at an earlier time told me to use Lotrime cream (for feet) and Hydrocortizone cream. The Lotrime cream actually made her sigh in relief and the hydrocortozone made her cry. Vasoline just didn't work for us. Best of luck.

Whenver my son has had a painful rash, the remedy that has cleared it up quick is using Lotrimin AF cream (for athlete's foot and found in the foot aisle), or anything comparable to this. I put the Lotrimin on, then put a layer of diaper rash cream over it. I use a cream from Bath and Body works called Mustela Vitamin Barrier Cream or Butt Paste. It's usually cleared up in 1-2 days!!

My daughter had rashes so bad she still has some scars from the blisters and she is four. desitin and balmex actually burned her. Someone told me to use cornstarch plain or in the powder and she cleared up in two days.

I agree with all of the Lotrimin posts. My daughter gets yeast-rashes, and her doctor said to do what we call the 'Triple Concoction' - first the Lotrimin, then A&D and then Desitin! It's a whole lot of goop, but it works!!

Another thing that seems to help - rather than using regular wipes, when my daughter's rash is painful, we use witch hazel pads. (Most hemeroid pads are witch hazel). They don't seem to hurt her, and I think that the coolness helps!

Good luck! :)

1st..make sure it is not a urinary infection...& 2nd make sure after she wipes she is dry...

when i was training my daughter we would use those kandoo wipes....& she would get a rash. the dr. said if i want to use them i have have to dry her afterwards.this happened last year when i was training her. even still...if i let her go potty on her own she will get a rash, because she is not wiping & drying properly. i always have to dry her after she said she did already..

hope this made sence & helps
