Hello :-)

I have about 15lbs I need to lose. We eat out about 3-4 times per week. I know that's why I can't lose it! I start exercising regularly.... and I gain a few pounds and it always discourages me. This time I gained 5lbs!! People say "oh it's muscle". But I don't know if I'm just eating more since I'm working out? (or I should say "was" working out) I haven't worked out in a week. I work 40+ hours per week. I'm a single mom to an 8 year old girl. I have every other weekend free & wed nights free. So like everyone else I have very limited time. I do have a 30 min workout (Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred) and I like it alot - I guess I haven't done it consistently enough to see results. Any words of encouragement? Any tasty, healthy, QUICK AND EASY dinner recipes? (quick and easy is the reason we eat out so much). Any sneaky ways to lose 15lbs? :-) Lol I don't eat "alot" - I eat french fries a few times per week (another weakness) For example, today ... this is what I ate. Breakfast= yoplait yogurt & granola, 1 pancake. Lunch = Backyard Burger (fast food, a cheeseburger & fries), mid afternoon we went to Target I got a candy bar ( I can honestly say the candy bar thing is a once a month maybe type thing), Dinner = 2 cucumber sandwiches (on dinner rolls) and a half bag of cooked brocoli. I swear my pants are feeling tighter & tighter. Like I had Thanksgiving dinner or something. Please help!

What can I do next?

It often does take more than willpower to break the cycle of yo-yo dieting, binge eating and succumbing to cravings which is what experts call comfort eating and is behind about 75% of weight management challenges. The difference is in breaking out of eating habits that are literally wired into us and into intuitive eating and that is entirely possible (and fun) once you understand eating triggers and how to work with them. - Willpower usually doesn't give us enough power though to making lasting differences.

Just want you to know that the more I work out, the hungrier I am and start gaining, but then if I keep it up it starts coming off. I buy bags of frozen veggies and try and eat at least one huge cereal bowl a day of veggies. I find that if I eat that I crave naughty food less and have less hunger pains. And you have to up your water intake.

Wow sounds like you're living on carbs! Switch to some low fat proteins and that should help. Try the South Beach books there are a couple of them that have some good and easy recipes and I think there is a dining out guide also. If you actually follow the phase one section you can get a jump start and drop alot in the first two weeks or just start on phase two and lose a couple of pounds a week. Good Luck!

Have you ever tried low calorie snacks that really fill you up? One example is Gudernoobs by WooHoo Foods. They're only 30 calories each and they really fill you up. Plus they're all natural and have omega-3s in them. Just a thought - it works for me!

honestly, I've struggled with my weight all my life & the only thing that has ever really worked for me is walking. In the past 4 months, I've lost 25 lbs just from walking about an hour per day, 5 days per week and not really changing much about my diet. I eat smaller portions of the same stuff and just make sure I get that hour of walking in. I either put on my iPod and clear my head or walk with a friend and use it as our 'girl talk' time. Had I been better about the dieting, I might have lost more, but all the weight has stayed off--no up days/down days on the scale.

People are right muscle weighs more than fat. Measure yourself, and write it down. Omit fried and junk food from your diet. This will help alot. Treat yourself the odd time, to make it worth it. Measure yourself on regular basis. This will help you see if you are losing inches. Once the first couple of inches come off, it will give you incentive to keep going. Also remember that it will not happen overnight. If you look on the net you can find recipes that can have dinner on the table in 30 minutes or less. State of mind is also important, believe in yourself, and that you can do it.

Jillian Michaels workouts really do work and she is totally awesome! I get bored easily so Thank God my husband is a fitness freak and has helped me...to be honest you will never lose the weight you need to eating like you did that day you noted above. It is a life change and no matter the size or weight it is the health of your body that is most important to me. The yogurt and granola are good first thing in the morning, but with the pankcake, french fries and candy bar and no workout to counter act the carbs...you will not see any difference in the direction you are looking to go. This I know from personal experience...Good luck and many blessings.

Hi L.,
I know what you're going thru. I've battled weight issues since I was a teenager. I finally found my answer in a program called Cinch. You can find it here: http://cinch.StarTeamUSA.net . It's a healthy way to lose fat and keep muscle. I drank 2 shakes a day and followed the plan with a sensible dinner and snack. I lost 2-3 pounds a week, for a total of 40 pounds. And because you keep the muscle, you keep your metabolism up. That keeps you from gaining back the weight.

Dieting or not, stay away from fast food restaurants. It's not a very healthy way to eat. I buy ground sirloin and make my own burgers. Then, I freeze them raw. They're easy to broil or grill. And I usually eat them without a bun. Pile on some grilled onions, mushrooms and or green peppers. And skip the fries.

Good luck! I hope you find the right plan for you.

I had the same problem - i didn't eat a lot and i was in the gym almost everyday and i got no results - finally i decided to to clinical weightloss, but thats a bit much for you if you only need to lose 15 lbs (I needed to take off about 45 lbs after having my baby). Lifting weights and putting on muscle will misconstrue your weightloss perception since muscle does weigh more than weight so drop the weights and focus on cardio till you get where you want to be and want to start putting on muscle weight. As for the food.... lol you need waaaay more protein and waaaay less carbs. While some yogurts are ok for you a better breakfast option is eggs (anyway you like them) and a few strips of low fat bacon plus any vegetables that you want or have fixed already - eggs take 3-4 minutes and bacon takes 3-6 minutes in the microwave depending on how many serving you make - quick and easy! Your right about the eating out - especially fast food cause you don't know how its cooked and its usually full of preservatives. You have to eat fast food while your out running errands? Try 2 fresco tacos from taco bell OR if you reeeeally want a burger and fries get a kids meal - the portions are much closer to what is acceptable for that specific food :oD When dinner rolls around get rid of the bread, have more protein, and stay away from starchy veggies like carrots, corn, potatoes, etc. When your body burns calories, it burn carbs first then fats - so if you cut down on your carb intake and keep up with the cardio you should be able to shed those lbs reasonably quickly :oD My fav recipes are from Cooking Light - 5 ingredients, 15 minutes - simple and easy and yummy!!! If you dont wanna spend the money one the whole book at first, you can pick up the magazine by the register at your local grocery store :oD Good Luck!!

Don't let the muscle thing comfort you. If you know you're eating bad and not working out, work on that and worry about muscle weighing more than fat later. Fast food will sabotage any prgress made by working out so watch out for that. Try cutting down our carbs. Today you had lots of carbs in every meal.
Up your cardio if you want to see results! Good luck!

K so it's all about calories! You need to start counting them. So for breakfast the yogurt & granola was great, probably around 200 calories but that one pancake with butter and syrup was probably over 300 calories then the your lunch was probably around 800 calories or more, candy bar about 190 to 250, and your dinner......around 600. So all together you had at least if not more 2100 calories. To lose weight you need to eat around 1500 a day. I know it's hard when you eat out a lot but now you can go online and look up all the calorie info. on any fast food place. I have done that alot so I know what is the best choice when I do eat out. Also just get some pre-made meals you can heat up fast at home like lean cuisines or the WW smart ones. They all taste good and are low cal.
