Needing to Buy a Reliable Wheelchair Van

Hello.
If your BIL lives in Texas, chances are he is eligible for assistance through one of the many programs for handicap individuals--my oldest is on MDCP. Anyway, many of the programs offer funds (sometimes up to 10K) to help purchase adaptable equipment, including and not limited to, vans, lifts, ramps,etc. If they do have such a program, he may want to visit with his Director and let them know what he needs. Not sure if they can help with locating, but it would be worth a try.

There is a facility on Babcock Rd (right where it curves & turns into DeZavala) that specializes in these types of vehicles (vans, cars, trucks, etc). I do not remember the name, but is has been there for several years. It should be easy t find. I hope this helps. If that doesn't work, I would contact the Scooter Store to see if they know of any other facilities of this kind.

Ebay and Craigslist.org are great places to look for handicap accessible vans. We bought our 12 passenger van on ebay for over $10K off the list price!

If your doctor's office has a bulletin board, you might try that route. What about the March of Dimes organization????

Without knowing what she can afford financially, I would say she could call most any dealership and give them information regarding your brother-in-law and his needs. If they do not have a van at the dealership that can be modified then, I would suggest she call someone like Adaptive Driving or Mobility Plus. Unfortunely, I do not have their numbers but I am sure they would be listed in the telephone directory. I am assuming that your MIL is in Houston, Texas.

My nephew has muscular dystrophy and I know if you buy a chevy they have a factory up north that gurantees the van and the lift for the lifetime of the van. Also,look into getting goverment grants for those as I know the vans can cost $15,000.00 but the lift can cost another $30,000.00. Which if you ask me if insurance is paying for the wheelchairs they should be paying for the lifts on the vans!!! My nephew is 14 and 145lbs and dead weight. Which is a lot for his mom to be toting around!!
