New Mom Needing to Find Mom Group and Play Group

I am a first time mom with a two month old son. My husband and I decided that me staying home with our son was best for us, but that has left me with limited adult interaction. I live in Keller, but I am willing to drive within the metroplex to a mom group or play group. If there are any in the area, I would love to know about them and if there is another way to find out about them I will take that info. too!

What can I do next?

I am a mom of a 21 month old in Arlington. I belong to the Arlington Early Childhood PTA. We have something going on all the time. We do play groups once a month, Moms that lunch once a month, park dates, guys nights out, moms nights out, Pokeno, and an informative monthly meeting. At the monthly meetings we have a sitter service if you choose to use it, and the moms get together to discuss things ranging from discipline, potty training, dieting (for us and proper diets for our children), services offered in DFW for kids, home decor, cooking, etc. We also work toward some community service goals by collecting teddy bears to hand out to the police officers/fire fighers, and help raise money to offset the Pharmacy Fund for the children in Arlington that need it most. If you want any further info, please don't hesitate to email me at ____@____.com I wish you luck. After staying home I had my crazy spell where I just needed adult interaction, as well as a safe avenue for my daughter to play. This group has been fantastic for us! Good luck.

Hi H.,

Checkout www.meetups.com to find a mom's group or playgroup you are interested in. I belong to the keller/Watauga playgroup, and although I haven't been able to attend yet (due to having a newborn at home), I'm looking forward to taking my 2 year old to some of the events soon! Another good one is Midcities Moms - I have also joined that one, and they seem to have lots of fun activities scheduled for toddlers and preschoolers. Good luck!

Are you breastfeeding? La Leche League meetings are great places to meet SAHM moms of little babies and many have playgroups organized. If not, you can make an announcement after a meeting and get some phone numbers/emails. www.lalecheleague.org to find your closest meeting!

My kids are a little older are now school age, so I am past the play group age. When my kids were toddlers we were in a play group and really enjoyed it. I think it helped me to be a better mom and helped my children get great socialization. I also made some wonderful friends that I still keep in touch with.

You might look for a moms club in your area, they usually have playgroups that meet. You can also check to see if Keller has an Early Childhood PTA, they also have them.

Good luck!

Hi H.,
I live in Keller and belong to the Keller MOMS Club. Over the course of the month we meet for playgroups and have outings and activities for the kids a couple of times a month as well as either a Moms Night Out or a Family Night Out once a month. Check out MOMSClub.org to find out the closest location to where you live(there are a couple of groups in Keller and they divide according to where you live). This group as been a lifesaver for me as I was going crazy for other adult interaction during the day.

Hi there,

I am in Keller and new to the area as well. Although I have a two-year old son, I would love to still get together. I am going to begin attending a local playgroup that I can invite you to if there is still room...I think they limit the number of kids sometimes. Because it is with my neighbor, however, we can always have an additional one of our own during the week.
Am I supposed to give my email address on this public forum??? Not sure how this part works??

Hi H.,

Congratulations on the birth of your son! I live in Keller, too and just moved here from CA in 2006. There are LOTS of activities for you to get involved in, if you're interested. I'm involved in the local MOMs Club. Dues are $25/year and they do all sorts of activities from playdates to going to the Ft. Worth Zoo, or simply just going out to lunch. But it really gives you a chance to interact with other moms and your child a chance to spend time with other kids. The website is www.momsclub.com. They're an international organization. Also, if you're interested, there's MOPS which is Mothers of Preschoolers. They're usually at a church and it is a Christian organization that has bi-weekly meetings (childcare is provided for free on-site) for you to get a break and listen to speakers on how to be a better parent, how to organize your time or any other helpful topic. WE also do crafts.

You're free to send me a message if you'd like about how to get involved. I would HIGHLY recommend it. I stayed home with my newborn and didn't know anyone and it was the toughest year of my life! Or, you're always welcome to contact me and we can get together on our own. Keller isn't that big and I'm sure you don't live all that far away from me.

Best of luck! Hope this helped!

I'm a member of a great group of moms in Keller called Keller Moms Konnect. We used to be part of the International MOMS club. The website is www.kellermoms.com , and it explains how to join or get more info. We have playgroups based on your child's year of birth, plus lots of planned activities for the kids and some just for moms. Good luck with your search.
