OB/GYN With Midwife in Cincinnati

Can anyone recommend a good OB practice that also has at least one midwife? I would like to deliver at Bethesda North. I recently found out I am pregnant and, although I love the practice that delivered my first child, the midwife left. I am looking for a practice where the docs/midwives are on time, take time during the appointment to answer questions and have a nice office staff. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

I know of a great Dula. She will be happy to travel and she has worked with some of the best midwifes. Her name is Darby Faust, at Holistic Beginings her number 1-888-277-7657 ext. 5168 or ###-###-####. She helped my husband and I deliver my two kids. I would never have a pregnancy without her. please feel free to let her know I referred you.

I have a wonderful OB/GYN too but he delivers at Christ. His name is Dr. Walter Bowers at ###-###-####.

My first recommendation would be to *run* to the phone and consider hiring Eileen Ryan as your doula - she has worked with many different midwives and OB groups in many different hospitals in Cincinnati, so you can tell her really specifically what you're looking for and you'd likely be able to make a really informed decision after talking to Eileen. Plus, she's got such a fabulous demeanor - absolutely someone you'd want supporting you through pregnancy and birth!

As far as OBs/midwives, I've been a patient of 2 of the groups mentioned by other mothers already, but I believe both of these groups deliver at Christ - don't know about Bethesda North:

* Seven Hills Women's Health
Depends on which group you see as there are several different groups. While I *highly* recommend Dr. Teresa Schutte (she attended my 1st birth, unmedicated, no IV, non-interventive for a hospital birth), I did not care for Stevens, Singh, Sutler, etc. (the others in her group). Unfortunately you can't choose who will be on call when you go into labor unless you plan on inducing (which I don't recommend unless there's a true, evidence-based emergency - inducing before 42 weeks increases your rate of c/section and all the other interventions).

* Dr. Vardaka, MD, & Stacy Hudepohl, CNM
Advantage of this office is that Stacy is a *fantastic* midwife, and you can be pretty certain that she'll be the one you see (unless you have any complications, at which point you might have to be under Vardaka's care). Dr. Vardaka, well, I can't speak to her abilities as an OB because we thankfully didn't need her, but her bedside manner is atrocious - controlling, pompous, insensitive, and very volatile, like Jekkyl and Hyde. Stacy is just the opposite - calm, rational, warm, and all-around *lovely* to be under her care. The major benefit w/ this group is that you know exactly who you'll be seeing: it's either Vardaka or Stacy, not some random doc/mw out of a group of 8 other docs. You can request to see Stacy for your pregnancy/birth and she's there unless on vacation (which you can ask her about during your first visits!).

I don't remember where he is located or where he delivers...but I have heard nothing but raves about Dr. Bowen and his midwives...up 75 somewhere. Goodluck.

I go to Crescent Women's Medical Group. THere offices are right next to Bethesda North, where they deliver. They have two midwives on staff, one of which delivered both my kids. All the doctors are women. As with most practices, the person who delivers your baby is determined by who is on call when you are in labor, and during your pregnancy you rotate between seeing different doctors. It has been an ideal practice for me, and there isnt a doctor or midwife there that I dont really really like.

Please call Dr. Vardaka's Office located very close to Bethesda North actually. I was the same as you which is why I went searching and found them. There is also another Dr. there named Stacy Hudepohl, and she's my favorite (just don't tell Dr. Vardaka that!) :o)

Their # is ###-###-####.

Take care!

Hi K.!

The group I was with did not have a midwife, but there were punctual and wonderful!! It was a group health practice...my doctor was Dr Les Murray and actually his partner Lisa Yang delivered my daughter, but they were VERY accommodating and nice. I went to the Mason office, but I know he goes to Kenwood too. Good luck with your pregnancy!!

I went to the Seven Hills Women's Health Center and it was wonderful. They have 4 midwives on staff and all are excellent. I delivered at Mercy Anderson and I am not sure what other hospitals they deliver at. I had 2 other friends who delivered with these same midwives and nobody has had anything bad to say about them. They have an office in Milford and one in Anderson. It may be too far for you but I had an excellent experience with them.

I am a midwife only doing homebirth, but I got my Masters degree in Midwifery. My preceptor was Rhonda Whitten with Crescent Women's Medical Group. She is wonderful if you are interested in a natural childbirth (or even if you're not), but she is in with another nurse-midwife and two doctors, so you will get whoever is on call. They deliver at B North.

I go to The Seven Hills Women's Health Center. They have a ton of locations around Cincinnati. Here is their link:

Make sure you tell them you want to see the midwives as well. Not all locations have them.

Congrats on your baby on the way!

I go to a midwife at Crescent Women's Group in Montgomery. I see Theresa Bauer and I absolutely love her. She always spends lots of time with me during my appointment to answer any of my questions that I may have. She is great! Their number is ###-###-####. I hope this helps!
