OB In Naperville

My husband and I have recently relocated to the Naperville area from Florida. We have also just found out we are expecting our second child. I am looking for an OB in the area but am having a hard time finding one who doesn't practice with a multitude of other doctors. Is this common here? Our old office had one doctor and one midwife, and then midwife no longer delivered babies, so we were able to see the doctor for all of our prenatal visits. I don't mind seeing a few doctors but when a practice has 4+ doctors this begins to eliminate the possibility of building a relationship with the person who i s going to bring your child into the world. Any suggestions? I also am interested in a practice that would allow the possibility for a VBAC, even though I do not think i t is the right choice for me, given the previous circumstances. I just want a doctor who is open minded to the possibility.

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated!

I second the post about Dr. George Banuelos in Naperville. He delivered both my children and are wonderful. This is a link for their website. They are affiliated with both Edward and Good Sam. I delivered at Edward hospital both times and had a great experience there. Good luck.

I see that someone recommended the Edward Center for Women's Health. I must disagree and recommend against them. I have had very negative experiences with them. My 3rd pregnancy was handled there -- first two born at Prentice downtown but I didn't want to keep making the trek downtown with two little ones in tow, so I switched to this group since I was already pregnant and needed someone in Naperville ASAP. The group is huge. Every doc has a PA and lots of times you make an appt with the doc but you only see the PA. They told me to make appts with all the docs so I would know them all before I went into labor -- then one of the docs didn't want to come into the patient room to see me when it was my only appt with her, she only wanted her PA to see me. A couple of times I had to remind the nurses that I hadn't had my blood pressure checked yet. It just seemed like I was the patient that slipped through the cracks, even though I was pretty vocal about what I needed. Then, my delivery was horrible -- both the hospital staff and the OB were really bad. If my husband hadn't seen it all people would think I was making it up. I was scheduled to be induced. On the day of the induction, the entire L&D staff looked at me like I was a criminal. They had me down as coming for a C section and were mad at me for being 1 hr late. I wasn't late -- I wasn't have a C section!!! They argued with me. They wanted me to have a C section! I really felt that they would have operated on me if I had not kept insisting that they were wrong and that I knew what I was there for. It was totally bizarre. Then, after induction started, Dr. Olson told me that I would be ready to deliver at noon and he would be back then. Well, at 11:55, I was ready to push. Dr. Olson, however, had just decided to assist in a surgery and now was not available to come for more than an hour, so they had me put my legs up in the air for an hour and wait. When my son was born, the cord was wrapped around his neck. Fortunately his apgar scores were good or we would be looking at serious malpractice on multiple fronts. I would avoid Edward hospital as well.

I went to Edward Womens Center for Health in Naperville (on hobson) - there are a few different doctors in the practice but all are great and you can make appointments with whoever you like...they are open to VBACs as well...

I use the Dupage Medical Group in Naperville. When I had my last daughter, you would see the group on doctors, but I have heard that has changed...so I am not to sure. They really are great doctors. I like them all! The office is a tad far for me, I had moved from another suburb, but I liked the doctors so much that I didn't want to switch. I actually have an appt this week. Hope this helps!

Dr Daube's group of OMG Womens's Health in Naperville is great. A little drive but worth it if you are planning a vbac. He works with midwives and is awesome. A lot of my cbe clients go to him and have had the best experiences!

Dr Michael Pourtabib in Naperville, IL is very experienced OB (his office is adjacent to Edward Hospital).
If you are specifically looking for practice that also provides midwives check into Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora.

I go to Dupage Health Specialists in Lisle. I mainly see Dr. Betty Hsia, but when she is not available, I see the other doctors in the practice. I like them all. I think there are four or five doctors (all female) in this practice, but the doctor you choose will most likely deliver your baby.

Whether or not you can have a VBAC also depends on the policy of the hospital where you deliver. Most people in Naperville deliver at Edward Hospital. I think they tend to be more conservative and over-treat their patients. They don't allow midwives to deliver unless there is an OB present. If I lived closer to a hospital that had an alternative birthing center or was geared more toward a natural childbirth (I hear Mercy is a good one), believe me, I would switch.

Good luck to you, and welcome to the cold Midwest!

I also recommend Dr. Joseph Martin with DuPage Medical Group. He is a great doctor as are all of the ones in that group. That seems to be a common thing in this area--many doctors in one practice. But even so, I have found Dr. Martin a good listener and takes his time. I feel like I have a good relationship with him even though I have seen other doctors during my OB appts. Dr. Maryanne Phillipe is also excellent. She has a great sense of humor, but is very thorough also. They are both very supportive with what you want to do. I just delivered my second child in November. She was breech and they suggested an external cephalic version to flip her. Dr. Phillipe perfomed it and it was successful so I didn't have to have a c-section. I'm pretty certain they are open to VBACs. Good luck!
