Okay, I'll Fix It!

I haven't seen anyone disrespecting the troops, other than those downing the Commander in Chief.. Believe me, I'd have thier head if they did. I did see you go off on One and Done, but her post was not disrespectful of the troops. She was saying how happy she was that they were coming home and giving credit to Obama and insinuating that it was Bushes unfinished business. I dont think any of that is in any way disrespectful or unsupportive of the troops.
My husband is a Democrat and a Vet and will tell you that he served the Commander in Chief. He followed orders. He is 30% disabled from the 1st Iraqi war, yet never says one negative word against Bush. Because that would be disrespectful. You dont put the Commander in Chief down. THAT is disrespectful to the troops.

I am grateful for the military men & women putting their lives on the line and I thank them. Because of them I get to sit in my home nice, cozy, safe & sound w/my family protected! Thank you. Please thank you brother for me personally. His missinon & injury were not wasted on me, my family and most of my friends. I'm sorry for his injury. It's not about supporting Bush or Obama or the decision to go on foreign land. For me, it's supporting the troops that are there regardless of what issue sent them there. THEIR LIVES are on the line! They need our support regardless of what our opinions are of our President's reasons for sending our men & women there.

In response to Mama May, she most likely was a citizen. You'd be surprised how many citizens don't support the decision to protect our country.

People here in my town say that kind of stuff a lot. (not supporting troops)

I won't go into the really disgusting line of rhetoric. It's boring.

I just give them a great big grin after they've finished their rant and are pausing so that I can join in and say:

"You know who hates wars the most? The people who have to actually have to fight them. And you're talking to a former US Marine."

Of course I support the brave men and women who try so hard to do the right thing, despite those who misuse their power, despite those who start wars over money and pretend it is over something else, despite horrible conditions, despite often being put in a position to help those who don't like us. I cant imagine being that brave, that self sacrificing. To risk their lives while we sit home and complain about stuff....

I think this question was asked over and over during and after the Vietnam war. The troops came home to a terrible disappointment, with people saying terrible things to them, acting as if they were monsters for having fought there.

I think America learned some really hard lessons from that time. Among those lessons was that we shouldn't stay in a conflict longer than the majority of America is willing to back. And the second one is, to respect and appreciate our troops, which helps us to back the decisions that are made.

Another thing that I see is that many people are not taught respect - like the woman you mention. We see it in all kinds of ways - and it's a shame.

I'm not sure I have an answer. It doesn't really matter what I think about the war. The troops folow orders from the Commander in Chief. They don't sign up to maybe follow orders, that wouldn't work. Ultimate loyalty to your country in my opinion!

I think this has gotten way out of hand. I don't think anyone inferred or wrote that they didn't respect the troops or suppor them. Wanting them home is support, cheering they are coming home is support. I am all for and happy for them coming home, however I don't believe it's for good.

As well as my realistic vision is that I don't believe it's for long. I believe another country, sadastic bastard out there will come to the front and we will battle him/her as well. Doesn't mean I don't support our previous Presidents, our current President, or future Presidents.

I have total respect and gratitude for our troops. I don't care who the president is or whether I agree with his/her agenda. That doesn't matter when it comes to respecting our troops. They are like our children - they do what they're told whether they agree with it or not. I would never take out a policy decision on the troops! My nephew served in Iraq as a medic. He served two tours over there. I have never been more proud and I love to brag about him. That was an extremely nerve-wracking time, waiting for him to come home. And hearing the stories about men and women who were killed right before they were scheduled to come home. How horrible. No, I really respect them and I do take the time to think about how it is with them and their families being separated for so long and my heart goes out to all of them. So to all of our armed forces, I say THANK YOU!

The whole Iraq war questions/posts have been blown out of proportion because I made a mistake (I misheard Obama) and a S**T storm ensued...this is NOT ANY President's accomplishment - the war isn't over and our troops are the ones doing the fighting...I could care less about Obama...it's our troops that are my priority.

It is great that the troops are coming home from Iraq. Really wonderful.

The twin towers were attacked and we went to Afghanistan. Then the war in Iraq started and no one heard about Afghanistan anymore. The news media (print and tv) were all over it if anyone was wounded or killed in Iraq because the decension in the country about the war meant people were watching on either side of the debate so it sold ads and made for great ratings. They fueled the agenda to sell add and air time and to discredit a conservative president. iI's all anyone talked about and all that time men and women were going to Afghanistan and dying.

Since we have had a new president all anyone has talked about is jobs, economics and "bringing our men and women home from Iraq" and our people are still dying in Afghanistan. You still don't hear about it. No one is against it, so it doesn't make for controversy, so it doesn't make for good news or debate questions. It's shameful.

I am neither right nor left. I am American. We see the lost at this Air Force Base every single day, and the sacrifice is almost unbearable to think about.

It is so very important to be glad and thankful that these troops and ANY TROOPS are coming home, and in my opinion if you are out in public and you see a military member or someone with a vet's sticker on their car, they should never have to pay for another meal, or another tank of gas, or anything else.

But, with that joy, we need not take our eye off of the ones still serving and not the ones likely to come home soon. I didn't mention anything it Tracy's post because I took it in the manner I felt it was intended as a "Go USA" message of joy that troops were coming home, but I can't help thinking of the troops coming home without thinking of the troops that aren't and the troops that never will.
