So What Happened?

She is teething, i guess that is the main reason she haves diarrhea. I've been giving her pedialite, but kinda like in popsicles that I found in BRU..Im also keeping her on the BRAT diet. Thanks a lot ladies

Pedialite and the BRAT diet. Just keep her well hydrated. No worries if she's still active, and don't try to make her eat too much either. She'll be back to normal soon :)

my dd is just getting over a bout of diarrhea, I had her on pedalite for the past two days NO milk or cheese or anything greasy (fatty). she did get one yogurt (for good bacteria), pasta, rice bananas and bread with a little pb. back off any juice, fruit is ok just not alot. also oatmeal is good I just introduced her to coco wheats which has calcium and iron in it. Today she finally had 3 good bm's. so I gave her just 6oz of milk before bed. I am going to slowly bring dairy back into the picture.

You have gotten a lot of good responses. Make sure she stays hydrated no matter what. The thing to look at to me would be how often does she go and how much fluid is she taking in. If she's not taking enough fluids in you need to take her in to get checked out. If she's dehydrated they may need to give her an IV. If she does not want to drink you might try pedialight popsicles to help.

Good luck and God Bless!

My guess is that the pediatrician would say nothing - it's likely caused by a virus and needs to run its course. There are foods that act as binding agents (cheese, in particular), but the biggest concern with diarrhea is dehydration.

So, making sure she's getting plenty of fluids to place what she's losing. If it were my child, I'd make sure there was plenty of whole milk (or breast milk if you're nursing) to replace the nutrients she's not getting by not eating much.

If it were me, I'd call the pediatrician just to make sure. They may also recommend the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) because those foods are known to be least irritating to the intestines.

Here's what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends.

My girls both have diarrhea when they are teething. Our pediatrician says very simply to feed them bananas and yogurt. Those are two foods that help with the diarrhea, they like them, and it is easy for you to get and give to her.

Not wanting to eat can also be a sign that she could be teething. My youngest is 14 months old now and teething. When she has a tooth about to break through the skin, she loses her appetite. She likes to chew on her frozen teething toys and foods that feel good on her gums - the Gerber crunchies, Puffs, plums (not a lot), Cheerios - things that are soft and easy to eat. We also put Orajel on her gums to help with the discomfort.

Good luck!

Kathy,
My mom says to boil some rice and before the water is all gone as it is getting the whitish color to it pour the water out into something let it cool and get it to our little girl. I have done this for my children when they were small and I have done it for myself it really does work.
good luck
