Open Gyms or Indoor Play Areas in Lees Summit Area

Hello Moms,
I saw several responses to open gyms from another post but I live in Lees Summit and wondered if there is anything around me that is cheap or free that you know of. We frequent the library story time and McDonalds and Burger King but that is all I know of that isn't expensive and that you have to sign up for. Obviously when the weather permits the park and zoo will be a hit but until then I need something close and cheap. Thanks so much for any ideas.

What can I do next?

Dawn is right. I have two boys and we are involved with parents as teachers. Most all of their activities are free. They have lots of awesome classes and stuff. I am in a 6 week love and logic class for free that I would never have been able to go to without PAT. (Parents as teachers). I also have gotten free speech therapy and occupational thearpy for my son through First Steps and PAT told me about it. They have helped me in so many ways. http://www.leesummit.k12.mo.us/gb/
go to this web site to take a look at some of the activities they offer. IT'S GREAT!

Hi B.,

Have you heard of Parents as Teachers? It's a really good group, they work out of Legacy Park. It's free to join, some one comes to your home and works with your child and they give you ideas on games to play with them and tell you where your child should be physically and mentally for his age. When you become a member they often have events at like Paradise Park for a reduced rate. Or you could try Tunnel Voyage. We just took our 2 little ones there and they had a ball! It's not too pricey and they have many fun things to do. Sometimes they have coupons in the mail also. Hope that helps!

Hi B.,

Looks like the previous response had some great ideas. If you venture into Independence, there is the Independence Center, which has a free play area with structures the kids can climb on. It's open during mall hours - the earlier you go, the less busy it is.
Also, Independence Parks and Rec has toddler town at the Sermon Center for $1 per child. There are tons of toys to play with/climb on.
You can also check out the "Things to do" link at this Metro Moms website: http://www.orgsites.com/mo/metromoms/index.html.

Hello B.!!!
Lucky you, I am one of the people who develop the monthly activities calendar for MOMS Club of Lees Summit.
Some ideas that I have directly off the top of my head are:
*1st Friday of every month: Xtreme Gymnastics has a Toddler Open Gym from 10:00 to noon for a fee.
* GAGE gymnastics has the same things but I cannot remember the days/times. It runs on 2 different days for 1 hour.
* Paradise Park: Moms get in free on Mondays and they also have coupons on their website
* Tunnel Voyage: Discount prices M-F from 10:00-1:00
* Toddler Town-Roger T. Sermon Center-Independence--- at least every WED, maybe on Mondays and Fridays too. Cost $1

Those are just a few. Like I said, I am one of the people who develop the activities for MOMS Club. We usually offer at least 3-4 activities per week to choose from. (We offer free and 'for a fee' actvities and try to mix them up) It is always FUN to go new places and with other Moms and chidren!!!

I got involved with MOMS Club of Lee's Summit when my son was 8 mths old. He is now 3. We stay so busy and have made a lot of friends for both he & I. I am so glad we got involved with other stay at home families!! Here is some info I copied and pasted from an email I sent not long ago:

The website is www.momsclub.org. That is the International site where you can read about the group as a whole. Then you can click on chapters and check out the Lee's Summit site too. There is a place you can inquire about membership etc if you so desire.
Like I said before, it is a GREAT resource for going out and doing things!!! That is where his Friday playgroup was formed through--LS Moms Club Members. Also, we have an email loop where you can email to one address and it goes to all members. It is nice for asking for advice, Dr. referrals, telling about garage sales etc. It is a nice way to reach a large group of Moms. One thing I do is send out safety recalls when I get them.
We also have Moms Night Out every month, MOMS breakfast once a month, and all sorts of child/mom stuff. We do holiday events like for instance, we are having a V-Day Pizza Party and they will exchange Valentines. We have a monthly calendar of fun events out to everyone before the month starts but also email Evites to each event. Then people can RSVP and others can check to see who else is going. We have all others numbers so if you check and only one other mom is going, you can call to make sure she will be there if that might change your plans to go or not. Check it out--we have fun.
Good Luck B.! (And all the other Moms looking for the same info)

Borders does a story time/activity Monday mornings at 10:30~in addition to the libraries it might be a nice change. Are you involved with Parents as Teachers? They sponsor a lot of great activities~mostly free. And then after it warms up Deanna Rose is a must visit!
