Hello ladies! I'm wondering if any of you have any suggestions for over the counter leg hair removal. I've always shaved and thought I would try waxing. I used Nads last week and now have ingrown hairs. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions for other over the counter leg hair removal? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I do leg waxing (and hair and nails) in a salon in Allen and the ingrown hair you are talking about may be from not letting the hair get long enough before waxing. It needs to grow for 2 weeks minimum. Each hair grows on a different time frame and even though you may have plenty of long hair in a week, you will still have hair that not long enough to be waxed. After you wax, you'll need to use a loofa or exfoliating mitt as it grows back in. The hair will work its way under the skin, causing ingrowns. There is a lotion you can get I think at Sally's that will help with the ingrowns but it's just a easy to scrub in the shower or bath. If you keep up with the waxing, you'll notice that the hair will thin out some, but start shaving again and it will come back. I don't know why, it just does. Hope this helps!

My daughter wanted to try the Smooth Away...product you see on TV.

I found it at Target for $10 and it does work well on the legs. Basically you buff the hair off. I was skeptical but after seeing her legs, I tried it and it was great.

We do not have a lot of leg hair, maybe that is why it works well. You just buff on clean dry skin and it does leave you smooth.

Good luck

I've found that anything OTC just doesn't work as well as a service you get in a salon. I have been doing "sugaring" with Lisa Moise who is an esthetician and massage therapist who works out of Destiny Salon in Flower Mound. It's an alternative to waxing and seems to last longer and it's more gentle on my skin. www.lisamoise.com - I absolutely love Lisa, also. She's wonderful.

C., a friend of mine told me that AVON has a product that is really good. She has tried several things before AVON and was not satisfied with any of them. She swears by this product. I myself am going to try it as I have problems with my upper lip and chin....harmone change after my pregnancy!! If you try AVON, let me know if it worked for you!

LASER hair removal is really the way to go! If you don't want to do that, keep shaving.

It's hard to wax your own legs, at least that's always been my experience, Waxing Poetic by Bliss - at Sephora is one that I've heard nothing but good stuff about. But Veet usually works best for me, I use the sensitive skin one before I shower. Like all those hair removal creams there is kind of an odor that lingers on your skin for part of the day. I usually wash with my husband's deodorant soap after I use it and that tends to lessen the smell.

C.,
I use Sally Hansen hair removal cream, which you have to microwave. It works well, just have to be careful as it is pretty sticky hence messy.
One thing you have to take care while waxing is you have to apply the wax in the direction of hair growth and pull it in the opposite direction. (guess you already know that) But this is a major cause for ingrown hair, if done incorrectly.
My friend uses Nair, which is good and less messy.
Good Luck!

I tried Nads but turned out I'm a wimp...couldn't take the pain! :)

I really like Veet but have to use the one for sensitive skin, otherwise I get red bumps.
