Outdoor Free-standing Basketball Hoop?

I need some advice and thought you moms could possibly shed some light. Not a typical question I know, but my son wants a basketball hoop and there are lots on the market with different reviews. So...I am in search of a good hoop and stand because I won't attach it to the wall but that will hold up in Florida weather. Any god/bad experiences to share? Thanks!

What can I do next?

our friends have a free-standing one...with the sand in the base...it's 10' tall and has a good 1/2' acrylic backboard...on Dec 26, 2012, in high winds it fell over on top of my car and sheared the drivers side mirror off...

You might need to find one that has the large base but also have tension straps on the back to hold it in place....

If you were to go with a free standing one, I would suggest the one that has wheels on it. Ours has wheels on it so if it were to storm with high winds we could always place it in our garage or close to the house to prevent damage. With that being sad we had 80 mph winds and it did blow over because we failed to put it in our garage. We just have water in the base of ours not sand. I'm not sure which is heavier sand or water or that would have even made a difference that day.

Ours is not attached to the house but is attached to the ground. All you need is cement to place the bottom post. I like it better because it is away from the house but doesn't blow over in the wind. That and for whatever reason the people in my subdivision put those sand ones in the sidewalk to keep them as far away from the home. Mine is in the backyard at the edge of our patio. The other thing I love about this is my kids were never running out in the street to fetch the ball.
