I had cysts that burst and it was agony. I was in sooooo much pain~ I had backache, fever, nausea, pain and yes weight gain but I can't be sure it was because of the cysts.

No weight gain, but pain and fever. I had to have surgery to remove mine. Its size was 7 cms - that's a pretty big cyst.

Then I started getting bursting cysts. OMG - pain that rivaled giving birth. I went on birth control pills to stop the bursting cysts.

I did not have weight gain. I'm glad about that.

I had ovarian cysts for years and weight gain too. It all turned out to be related to my hypothyroidism, something it took a really wonderful obgyn to diagnose. Since starting hormone treatment I haven't had another cyst, have dropped most of the extra weight and feel like a completely new woman.

The thyroid helps regulate (or misregulate, as the case may be) the reproductive organs and cycles. Have your TSH levels checked (they should be below 3, ideally below 2. Don't let anyone tell you anything below 5 is fine, it is NOT).

Mine was the size of a grapefruit and had to be removed. I was clueless that it was even there for what had to be quite a bit of time, no symptoms at all. Then I started having some pain, which became extreme in just a few days. I was having nausea and some vomiting, but that was due to the pain.

My sister had a grapefruit sized one that was removed, along with the ovary. She didn't have any symptoms, then had extreme abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Went to the ER two days in a row and was discharged with pain meds. Went to an OB doc's office the next day and had surgery an hour after the visit. She hasn't had any symptoms since then. On a side note, she would always have nausea and vomiting the first/second day of her period. Since having the cyst removed, that has gotten a lot better. The doctor said it could be because the cyst is gone, but can't be certain.
