I have a question, I have been getting this pain that just does not feel very right. I have been getting it on the left upper right side of my upper tummy. Anyways it feels like there is this pain and tightness and it is hard that just does not seem to go away. I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this, and if so what it was? I am wondering if this is something that I should call my doctor about. It started last night and this morning I woke up with my whole upper tummy really aching. Sometimes I get the same pain by my belly button too. I am currently 25 weeks pregnant will be 26 on Saturday.

Thank you for any advice. :)

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone, I called the OBGYN clinic yesterday and the nurse told me to go to the Birthing Center right away. She was not sure what was going on. When I got there they ran some test. I was not having any contractions, which is good. Then they checked my pee to see if I had a bladder infection or if I had any protins in my pee. That came back clear. So, the doctor said that he is worried that it could be my gallbladder and he wanted me to make an appointment with my doctor to get it checked to make sure that it is not going bad or that it is not stressed. So that is what I am going to do. Thanks for all of your input it really helped! :)

Go to the doctor as soon as possible. Call and tell a nurse the situation and they can fit you in their schedule. Don't take chances with your health and that of your child.

I was in the same situation with gestational diabetes and a high risk pregnancy. I was put on bedrest at 22 weeks and I stayed in bed until my daughter was born at 36 weeks. I made lots of phone calls to the doctor's office. They are there to help you.

I also had this type of pain during my 2 previous pregnancies, although I never had a c-section. Not sure why... maybe because the muscles and skin are so stretched out. (Or maybe there is a baby elbow or knee poking you.) ;) Check with your Doc, but it's probably nothing to worry about. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Hi A.
The pain you are describing sounds to me like it may be your gullbladder not working correctly. This is very common when you are expecting. you should tell your doctor about your pain the next time you are in for a check up. hope this helps. If you have any more questions please feel free to e-mail me @____@____.com T.

With being a high risk pregnacy(I was too) any pain I would say talk to your Dr. It might just be the baby pushing on you but better safe than sorry

During my pregnancy, I had some discomfort in one spot, and found out after the ultrasound that the baby was pushing on that area wit his rear end... You may want to check with your doctor to be sure, though. It never hurts to call and leave a message- even with a nurse practitioner.

I don't know if you've already gotten a thousand responses to your question already, but here's my 2 cents:

Sounds like a classic case of round ligament pain. The ligaments stretch and ache a lot as your uterus expands. Mine were so bad for a couple of days I could hardly stand up straight or lie down flat. So I went to the doctor thinking I had a bladder infection or something was wrong and my doctor just said it was round ligament pain due to my uterus growing causing the ligaments to stretch. It's pretty painful and can sometimes be excruciating even though most stuff you read about round ligament pain says it's just a slight uncomfort or sharp pain that lasts for just a few minutes. For me it lasted 15 to 30 minutes at a time! Don't worry, all that pain means is your uterus is growing as your baby gets bigger. It's a good thing even though it hurts. Hang in there!

I am an LPN and your gallbladder is located on the upper right area. You may want to call or go into your doctor. It is really common for pregnant women to develop gall stones during pregnancy. I had my gallbladder removed shortly after my second baby was born. It is worth checking out.

pain on the upper right side of your tummy has something to do with your liver and how it is functioning. High blood pressure usually acompanies this. Call your Dr. right away especially with your toximia history.

My friend who delivered C Section, said that she had similar cramping or sharp pains throughout her pregnancy. She did talk to her Doc about it and he reassured her that the pain is the scar tissue from the previous c-section insision stretching. Scar tissue is not very pliable so it hurts to stretch. An emergency c-section usually runs verticle up to your belly vs. horizontally across the bikini line. That might explain some of the belly button pain.

Last year, when I had a similar pain (at 27, 28 weeks), it was pancreatitis which was complicated by preeclampsia and HELLP. I delivered by emergency C-section at 30 weeks. (He just started walking last week.) The pain was not a typical diagnosing factor, and earlier in the week I had my blood pressure taken and it was fine. I was super swollen (ankles the size of my thigh) and felt miserable in general. My blood pressure was unreadable at 180/100 when I finally convinced the OB/GYN that something was wrong. Good Luck!

Hi A.,

My name is J.. You're story caught my eye; it's possible that those pains are from you gall badder. When I was having problems with gall stones, the pain would moved around a little like gas pain. The third attack brought the pain to just under by right breast. An ultra sound showed several gall stones and my gall badder was removed. Tell your doctor about this pain! Pregnant or women who have just given birth are at higher risk for gall badder problems. Either way it can't hurt to mention it.

Take good care, J. in Minneapolis

I would call your doctor to check. It is always better to be safe then sorry, especially since you are considered high risk. To me it sounds like a pulled muscle. I got those all the time with both of my pregnancies and my doctor's recommendation was a warm bath or heating pad on a low setting. GOOD LUCK!
