I hate taking narcotics for pain....so I used something like Tylenol Extra Strenght. I put on my glasses to read how many I could take at one time. I have been taking these for many months from the same huge bottle. Soon as I started reading...it stated in big letters....active ingrediants...don't take after expiration date. Hmmmm....looked for it...they have been expired for over a year!!!! Actually they have not been doing their job very well....do you think that is why??? Do you think that there is still some hope for me that I will get some relief from cronic pain buy buying a nice new bottle tomorrow? I have been suffering from 2 pinched nerves from a back injury since last July or so.
For my back problems, Ibuprofen helps, but its the big dogs that do the trick (percosets), but yes, they are less effective when expired.
Yeah they tend to loose their strength after they expire. Try a new bottle or try Advil.
Pinched nerves feel oh so much better if the doc will give you a prescripotion for some steroids. I had one that was really really bad. My C 5-6 disk was out and the C-6 nerve was impinged. I wished I was dead many many times in the days before I went to see the doc.
He gave me a Medrol pack. The first day you take something like 5, the next day 4, then 3, then on down until the last day you only take one pill. The 2nd or 3rd day I took them I was pain free. I have never had the pain return like it was and I did not have surgery. I do have some pain but compared to what it was???? the pain I feel is like no pain at all.
For nerve pain ice and stretching is best for me.

they lose their potency. Narcotics will lose their potency as well. I am not sure of the affects it would have if you took them.
If they aren't doing their job - it's because they've lost their potency. It is ALSO possible that because you are taking them daily - your body has built up an immunity to them...yes, even with OTC meds..your body will develop an immunity.
If you have pinched nerves - what does the doctor say? Physical therapy? Chiropractor? Acupuncture?

I've never had a lot of luck using Tylenol for nerve pain. I'd recommend seeing a chiropractor and/or acupuncturist - why not solve the problem for good, rather than just medicating it? But even if chiropractic/acupuncture doesn't provide immediate results, you may need to go to a stronger pain med (Vicodin, Percocet) to get relief. I know what you mean about not wanting to take narcotics, but if you're in the kind of pain that acetaminophen won't help...
masking the pain is not going to help - pain pills are sooooo bad for your organs. Abundant Life Chiropractic center is AMAZING and will address the PROBLEM. Dr. Zaino is wonderful as are his staff. He's at the corner of Research Forest and New Trails in The Woodlands right beside the Starbucks entrance of the Preferred Bank building - he's worth EVERY penny!!!

In the meantime, ALLEVE. Maybe. Tylenol nor Advil have ever done anything for me for pain. I thank the Lord that I gave Alleve a try.

Better than taking pain pills, get some help for those pinched nerves. Masking the pain isn't taking care of the underlying cause. Try a chiropractor and/or massage therapist.
Be careful with the acetametaphin. Too much can ruin your liver. They have changed the amount they recommend because of this. Don't go by the dosage on the old bottle, and count the mgs so that you don't take too many pills, especially on an ongoing basis.
