I really dont know why im writing. I guess i just want someone to tell me that i am indeed going to have this child :) My due date was sunday. I am only four days over due but i really dont feel like there is any progress for about 4 weeks now. With my first daughter my water broke a week and a half before i was due. I guess im starting to feel the blues about not seeing this little one. on top of it i have a wicked cold. coughing, stuffy, etc.... I just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for relaxation or natural "induction" (please no castor oil... ) keep in mind i have a 17 month old who does not like to nap lol so relaxation has to come after 8 pm. thanks!

What can I do next?

Try deep squats and sex.

Dont' worry the same thing happened to me I was two weeks early with my first and my son was a week late. But it was the easiest delivery ever. And I recovered nicely also.

Your body might be saying no to labor since you have a cold.

You may laugh, but it worked for me. My due date was 9/9 and I was a week overdue. I really wanted to have the baby on 9/17 (long story) so the evening of 9/16 my husband and I went bowling and out for spicy Indian food. I went into labor as the clock struck midnight and my son was born on 9/17. You never know, it might help...

Hi,

I know you've heard the word "relax" constantly. Don't. Go for walk. A good long walk. Walking is what the docs recommend for making labor speed up. Please don't try any laxatives or castor oil. No recommended.

The baby has to come out sometime. If you are truly concerned tell your doctor you want to induce labor. You are right you have the blues. Explain it the doctor and say that you just can't take anymore. You need the babys birth to be now.

Most babies are over their due dates. It's normal. You know your body and your mind. You are the most important person right now. It's all about you! Make your doctor understand how you are feeling and suggest inducement.

Good luck.

Oh! I really feel your frustration! I am sorry you are feeling sick on top of having to wait. I just had my first daughter 7 weeks ago and she was 16 days late!! With every passing day I thought I would surely lose my mind:) Finally, I had to be induced, which was something I had really wanted to avoid and then I got an epidural when I had wanted a natural water birth. But looking back on it, despite nothing going the way I had wanted, it was a wonderfull experience. The best of my life! So...hang in there, one way or another your little baby is coming soon. I know every minute feels like an eternity...but it will be over soon!! As far as natural induction..haha I tried EVERYTHING (except castor oil...yuck). Nothing worked. Babies come when they're ready. I don't think the old wives tales work BUT try them all anyway. It's a distraction while you wait...and you never know. I also found that being around people helped distract me. Stuff I tried included: raspberry leaf tea, walking, sex, masterbation, spicy food, a glass of red wine, a bumpy car ride, sitting on the washing machein while it's running, relaxing....haha. Best of luck to you. Who knows...maybe you are already in labor as I write this:) Let us know what happens!

Hang in there. I went 4 days late with my son. Until my water broke that Sunday, I had no feelings as though "today was the day". I was miserable, and it could have been worse. I could have been 2 weeks late! It will happen, she can't stay in here forever.
As far as relaxation, for me nothing beat a neck and shoulder massage from my husband. And when I was lucky, he would rub my feet too. :) Good Luck!

Hi L.,
I know you have lots of advice and people assuring you on here but I have a couple things in common with you that i thought were pretty cool. I'm 23 and stay at home mom as well. I have a 17 month old daughter named ava and another baby on the way only i still have another four months to go. Me and my husband have been married for three years. We don't know what we're having but i kinda want that to be a surprise. Its hard to find other moms who are almost exactly in the same boat you are in at the same time that you are. So I'm sure you'll have this kid soon. Believe it or not I think Orgasms are what did it for me with ava but i probably know as much as you do, so I might be asking for your advice after about four months if i cant get this one out.

L.,

Most of those natural induction techniques don't really work. This baby will come. They always do. They just do it in their own time. The only thing you can try that I've seen work is nipple stimulation. Try pumping a bit of milk and see if that helps. Nipple stimulation encourages the body to produce prolactin, the hormone that makes breast milk. Prolactin helps to stimulate contractions. Good luck!

L....I'm chuckling reading this because I remember feeling like that. I LOVE children and being a mom, but HATED HATED being pregnant. Except of course when they moved around and kicked. That part I loved. I was a week late with both kids. I tried it all....the natural stuff, sex(good God at that point you knew I was desperate), anything anyone suggested. I never dilated with either of them. Had labor pains but nothing. They will come when they want. With my first after being sent home, I was told(by the dr) eat something, a small glass of red wine, and rest. I did and within an hour my water broke! Not likely to happen the same way. It's tough with a toddler too. All I can say is hang in there sweetie! Best of everything to you all!

You are braver than brave to even think about having and delivering a second one. I praise you. I have a 3 yr. old who is not potty trained and do not even think of having one in the near future. It's so hard for me, because I really have no one close to me. Money wise too, I don't know about you but day care is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive. Just the thought of having two in daycare scares me to tears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You ARE most definitely going to have that baby! I was 6 days late and I thought it would never come either. I was going to be induced the following day and sure enough my water broke and I was immediately in labor. Hopefully your Dr is like mine and won't let you go longer than a week. GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES!!

I think I just experienced deja vu! I was 2 weeks (2 weeks!) past my due date when my doctor convinced me to induce. I cried like I was mourning something because I really wanted nature to run its course. But I was also sick when I gave birth, which was hell when I tried to blow my nose after I had delivered! But four days over due is nothing! In fact, you may not be overdue at all! There's a margin of error when predicting a due date, so maybe you're right on schedule.

I tried everything from Castor oil to rasberry leaf tea. They also say it's good to walk alot, but nothing expect the pitocin in the hospital encouraged my little one to make her way out. Enjoy being pregnant for a few more days, cause you can always get induced next week!

Well, I was like that with my third boy. First one came right on due date. Second one came early, because I had to start to bring on labor, placenta was not good. So for about 2 wks I was told by my nurse midwife (who I used with all three, natural child births) to stimulate my nipples. Not fun but get a little lotion and sit somewhere with the TV on in private. I also did this with my third because he was late, so in the shower I did this and talked and pleaded with him. And when all else fails, sex works, this is also not fun for you at least, but it does work. Good Luck!

I feel for you! I was 23 when I had my daughter, she;s 17 months. I don't want to strees you out more but, I was almost two weeks over due with her. It was frustraing and in what I beleive to be the hottest August on record. I tried walking and begging my husband to have sex with me (one of my relatives swears by having sex to induce!). Nothing worked! But, once she came it was well worth the wait. Take the time now to spend with your first as I very soon will have to share your attention between both your children. Cherish every moment. I know everyone says that but, its so true.

Good Luck to you!

Been there! My daughter was 2 weeks overdue. I went into labor the day I was scheduled to be induced. I loved being pregnant but I just wanted to see my baby! I wish I could tell you how to help it along, but I don't know. I tried walking a lot and sex, but it didn't move anything along. She just wasn't ready to come out yet. I wish you lots of luck and I hope you feel better.

Don't worry, your baby will eventually pop out. My middle son was so stubborn that it took him 3 weeks over my due date to finally take the hint that he needed to come out.

Good luck and congrats in advance

I know how you feel, my daughter was 3 weeks overdue and like you I was coming down with a terrible cold and no one knows how sick you can really feel from a cold until you can't take any medicine for it! You really just have to be patient but here's a suggestion, I am an avid exerciser and I have one of those aerobic balls that look like beach balls, a few days before Juliana was born I started sitting on it while I was watching TV and just bouncing on it, it seemed to stir her up and about 48 hours later my water broke(the very day the doctors were going to induce me). Good luck and congratulations to you.
