Pastel Rugs and Lamps for Baby's Room

I'm about to have a baby girl and I'm putting the finishing touches on her room. It's done in very soft colors and is kind of "shabby chic." The only two things I still need are a floor lamp (with a changing pad on the dresser, there's no room for a table lamp) and a rug. I'm having trouble finding these two items in soft colors (e.g., antique white lamp, and light pink or sage rug) at a reasonable price. Discount chain stores like Target and Bed, Bath, Beyond have all brightly colored things. Pottery Barn Kids has cute stuff that would work, but it's pricey. A floor lamp, e.g., is $149. Everything at Babies R Us is part of a matchy-matchy set. Any ideas on where else I should look?

What can I do next?

The TJ Maxx in St Louis Park often has great lamp and rug options as well as baby items.

I agree on the lamp idea in terms of buying something used and then creating your own shade.

I just wanted to comment on the changing pad on the dresser. That is what we did because our son's room is very tiny and there wasn't space for a changing table and a dresser. It is perfectly safe as long as you get a contoured changing pad. It will have a little strap that hangs off one side and can be nailed to the back side of the dresser. Then always buckle the child in with the safety straps and never step away from them.

Buy a floor lamp you like from Target or where & spray paint it to a color you want.

I always seem to find great stuff for my kids rooms at Tuesday Morning or Home Goods. They are like a TJ Max or Marshalls for home accessories. Decent prices for very cute kid stuff. Good luck!
