Hello all. I just got back from my monthly checkup (i am 6 months preg) and was told that in my ultrasound they saw that I have Placenta Previa ( the placenta is in front of the baby instead of behind) and that If it doenst go back before the baby is ready to come, I will have to have a C-section. I am terrified, I really DO NOT want to have a C-section. My doc told me it was possible for it to move before the baby comes. I was wondering If any of you ever had this happen, and Did it go back before, or did you end up having a C-Section? Thanks M.

What can I do next?

Hi M., My sister had the same condition 9 years ago and went though a c-section. Every thing came out fine. She now has 3 beautiful kids.Just be careful and take it very seriously. Look at it this way. at least the Drs. know what they're up against before you attempt to deliver!!!

Hello.

I am like a few of the other Moms. I did not have Placenta Previa, but did have an emergency c-secion.

I completely understand it is scary, but it is honestly not bad. In fact, I want c-sections for all my other babies. My husband feels that we were "lucky" to have to have one. I agree!!!!!!

Again, like some of the other Moms said the 5 days in the hospital gives you a lot of, extra, time to get to know your baby. If we went home earlier, we probably would not know our baby was not gaining weight. Or that I was temporarily anemic. We learned other important things as first time parents like how to nurse and care for the baby.

I know you don't want a c-section and wish you the best but it is honestly not that bad. Really!

I did not have placenta previa but I did have 3 c-sections. I hope for your sake you do not have to have one. But I wanted to tell you not to be afraid of c-sections. Yes they take longer to recover from but it is not bad. If you do one thing I highly recommend is to get moving as soon as you feel up to it. With my first I babied myself and did not move around right away. With each of the next I started moving around sooner. It made recovery so much faster!! Once again I hope everything works out for you but just remember that the end result no matter what method is used is worth everything!! Good luck!

Hey there! Why are you afraid to have a C Section? I feel so bad that you are terrified of this. I had an emergency delivery last Christmas eve, which was a C Section with my first baby, and I will tell you, it wasnt bad AT ALL! I am the BIGGEST wimp about everything. Up until then, I had never had an IV, surgery, been in a hospital for anything!

The thing I was most afraid of was the spinal and the cathater, of all things! Neither were painful. Nothing about the incision or the birth hurt in any way. Believe me I would tell you!
They stitched me up and that was it. I will tell you, I was sore after for a while, but I took Ibuprofin and was fine. I kid you not, my scar is about 4 inches long and is way below the bikini line, even on my low rise underware you cant see it.

I know it can be a scary thing, if you want to talk more about it, let me know!

M., I have not had a PP, but what I can tell you is that a C-section now is not something to be afraid of. My teacher- a Gyneacologist had 2 kids with C-section by choice, though she could've easily delivered by normal delivery, she didn't want the hassle of having the vaginal area altered, etc.

Don't worry, and to ease your worries, you can read up on C-sections, and perhaps even get videos on it and talk to more moms who have had successful ones.

This happened to my sister with her third child (now expecting her 4th in January). Hers did move before the baby was delivered vaginally. It was good news for her that she would not have to have the C-section. Her doctor told her it was like a 70 -30 chance of the placenta moving out of the way before she were to go into labor. It moved and she was glad. She is now hopping that it will not happen again with her new bundle of joy due January 23rd.

Hi M.,

The same thing happened to me with my first pregnancy. For me, yes, the placenta did move out of the way at around 36 weeks. I had to have several more ultrasounds than usual just so they could see the progression of the placenta. But, I ended up having a normal vaginal delivery. I've heard of quite a few people who have this condition, so I think it can be more common. Good luck to you.

Hi M.. I was told I had Placenta Prevera about the time you did. They told me the same thing that it may or maynot move out of the way. In my case, it moved out of the way. Although I still ended up having a c-section due to me not dialating. I got to 2 and stopped. I wouldn't worry about it. More times then none, it moves out of the way. If it doesn't, a c-section isn't as bad as it sounds. Good luck and congratulations on your new baby!

I'm sorry to hear this. I never had this condition, but I did end up having a c-section. I was completely terrified, and pretty emotionally drained (shaking and crying) as I was totally unprepared for it. Though looking back, it was the best thing in my situation and my baby girl (now a toddler!) is great--it didn't matter how she came into the world, just that she was happy and healthy.

So, ideally, you won't need one, but just in case, good luck to you. And the best thing you can do is try to prepare yourself for one one the chance that it's required--that way you won't be so blind-sided.

Hi M.

I'm a mom of 2 and also had placenta previa with my 1st pregnancy. My Dr. ordered me decrease my physical activity (no more walking, yoga etc.) and to take it easy. I had a 2nd ultrasound at 7 months and it had corrected itself which apparently happens quite often. I would make sure you're scheduled for a 2nd ultrasound.
I did end up having a c-section but not because of the placenta previa (baby would not descend). I was also terrified to have one but it turned out fine. Recovery was pretty fast and it wasn't painful. Good luck and try not to stress about it. Hopefully it will take care of itself. Good luck!

My sister and I both had low lying placentas at our 20 week ultrasound. They both went up and we both delivered vaginally with no complications. Don't stress about it now(easy for me to say, I know)--you've got a good chance it will resolve!

Good Luck!!

Hi M.,

I had placenta previa with my little girl as well and I did end up having a c-section. My case was very similar to yours; the docs expected the placenta to move out of the way, it never did and I ended up with a full previa. At 33 weeks, I did bleed alot and end up in the hospital, but I was okay, but after that they scheduled my c-section. My baby was 4 weeks early but made it through.
I would just trust in your physician and take very good care of yourself. Don't let stress take you over, but know that you need a bit extra TLC from your support group and all will go well.
A c- section is not as bad as what people might make it out to be. You will be in the hospital for a whole week which i thought was great because your tended on hand and foot! Recovery is longer, but have plenty of rest and help and you'll be fine. The main goal is that baby be okay. You cannot have a vaginal birth with a full placenta because it is dangerous to baby and you, so that's what you must think.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be more than happy to answer them!!
Good luck!
J. - mom of a 2 beautiful girls-9 year old, and 15 month old (my miracle) and 6 year old stepdaugher.

I know 2 peple who had placenta previa.
One is a co-worker, and the condition corrected itself before the baby was born and she did not need a C-section. She basically had to watch how much physical activiy she did.
The other person I know is a cousin of mine. The condition did not correct itself, but her doctor did not make her have a C-section, she gave birth naturally, but it turned out she also had another condition they were unaware of (don't know the name) where she couldn't deliver the placenta. After she gave birth they went in to do a DNC, but it still wouldn't come out, in normal circumstances they would do a hysterectamy, but they didn't for her. They gave her some pills that made the placenta brake off in pieces over time. I wouldn't worry about that happening though, because I use the same OB-GYN as her and he said that her case is very rare. It only happens in 1 in every million women.
I do know 3 women who have had C-sections though, they all said that natural birth was an easier recovery, but it isn't scary.

Hi. I had this, only they didnt realize it until the day i started bleeding profusely. They induced me right away and I delivered vaginally 4 hrs later. Just what happened to me. Never did my docs ever even mention a c-section. They just immediately broke my water, induced me and that was it. Everyone was fine. Maybe you could research and see if a c-section os mandatory, it wasnt in my case. K.

I've had this with all 3 of my pregnancies, and it moved every time. Most of the time it does.
