We used to tease my brother about his "internet hoes" and wouldn't you just know it, he married one of em.

I had a few internet hookups, but no love connections.

Before online dating really exploded, there were singles ads in the paper and my husband and I met thru his ad (I responded with a funny, quirky letter). We dated for over 2 years and got married 18 years ago!

Yep - still the best thing that ever happened to me! We worked within in 2 blocks of each other and lived less than 2 miles away from each other, but we never would have met if not for the internet! I would've missed the best guy ever and he was right there!

We did--met on CatholicSingles.com in mid-Nov 2001, met in person in late Dec, were engaged by Easter 2002, and got married in 2005. Although we are from different states, it turned out that we actually had a mutual friend, so that was very encouraging for both of us.

@ Denise--yes, when we met it was still taboo, so we both lied to our parents. I didn't tell my mother until shortly before our wedding the whole story, and some of my old friends that I fell out of contact with STILL don't know....but y'all do! :)

I met my husband at work. He was a contractor that came to work on the property I was managing.
I remember when it was so taboo to meet on-line!! OMG you met on-line, how tacky!! Now that is as natural as meeting the old fashion way, in a bar!
Blessings!

Nope. Poetry open-mike. The barrista was trying to get me to read my work and introduced me to my then-future husband. Nearly a year later, we sort of realized how awesome we both were and got together. Both of us were in bad marriages when we first met and in our own processes of separating/divorce. We each took some time for ourselves before even realizing we might be diggin' each other.

That barrista made the best lattes and apparently has good taste in men--for me, anyway.

My husband and I have been together for 22 yrs (married 18) so it was before the internet was such a big deal...he was dating my best friend!!!! LOL! AND...I didn't like him very much! Welp...here we are, over 22 yrs later! :) Good times!

I should add that they weren't too serious and now, all this time later, she and I have reconnected. She is also married w/ two amazing, beautiful children and is one of the most successful businesswomen I know!

Nope...he worked at the clinic and met me through my ex...go figure! And we started dating about 6 months after that relationship ended. We got a shove into seriousness with our princess, and 10 years later things are great!

Nothing wrong with meeting online though!

Yes, and no... We lived in the same town our whole life, same school. We never dated. In 2002 he contacted me via classmates.com, so we reconnected thanks to the internet. I often wonder about that decision he made to email me when he saw my contact info on there. Thank goodness he did :)

Online dating wasn't around back in 1991 when we met. :)

I was a bartender at Hooters, and my husband was the only customer I ever agreed to go out with. I worked there for 3 years.

We did.....kind of. My best friend was tired of dating the jerks she was dating so she told me to find her a guy since I had alot of nice male friends. I didnt want her to date my other friends though in case it ended badly( didnt want to be in the middle) so I started looking on myspace lol. Anyways, I ran across the profile for my now hubby and sent him a friend request (because I thought he was cute....not for my friend). About a month later he sent me an email asking why I had sent him a request. Turns out we had crossed paths sooo many times before and had a few of the same friends. We were married 10 months later and just had our 5th wedding anniversary in November :).

Yes, on AOL instant messenger. I was researching the city I was about to move to and I checked the city, Christian, my age group. He introduced me to people there as he had family there. I never expected to marry him at all.

I helped my friend find her husband by using a local site similar to craigslist.
The mistake we made was posting her requirements. One man, the one she married, lied about his age and she believed him at first.

We should have said "This is what I am. What are you." Then we would have eliminated him. He misled her about finances too, but it came out within 2 months so she should have dumped him.

I met mine (second and FINAL husband, knock on wood, lol) online on yahoo dating. OMG I had the worst dates and meet ups from that site, except for my future husband. I was about to ditch the site, then I met him and we had some great phone conversations then eventually met and dated. We married new year's day 2004 and it was the best thing we have ever done!

Yes! My hubby and I met online in a chat room over 14 years ago. The internet looked very different back then. What was nice is that we were able to talk to each other about anything about our lives without any judgements. When we finally did meet which was a month later we knew when we met that we were going to get married. We married six months later and we're still going strong!

I remember there were also some other internet couples in the chat room (it was an over 30 room) that also got married which was unusual to me at the time but maybe not so much now. Some of these couples were in different parts of the country. Luckily my DH and I were in the same state.

Today, I wouldn't take the chance but back then it was really a novelty. I remember soon after we were married the movie "You've got mail" came out and it was so very close to our story it became an instant favorite.

Yes. I'm kind of glad it's caught on and isn't so weird these days. We met by happenstance on an AOL chatroom. I had just finished my degree and was home visiting my mom and was BORED TO TEARS. I got online and met my husband. Lol. We were within 5 miles of each other. After a month of emails and chatting online we met up and went on a date. That was back in 1999.

He is not someone I would have normally gone for had I not met him online previously and gotten a chance to know him. He is the quiet type. :)
