I am currently in the process of potty training my daughter. I have heard children usually have more trouble having a bowel movement in the potty then peeing. Is this true because its the other way for my daughter. She might tell me she have to go to potty but most of the time she already gone sept when she have to do number two then she will grab my hand and pull me to the bathroom. I also still have her in diapers because of all the accidents. should I move her to pull ups or what should I do? She likes sitting on the potty too is that normal? She gets upset if I try to take her off before she is ready.

What can I do next?

What you need to do is put the child on underwares and set a cook timer for the child for every 30minutes the first three weeks. whe she hear the bed then go to bathroom no matter what. Pull ups just make them feel bigger, but princess underwares make them fell much bigger. Tell her that the princess don't like to be wet and they get sad when they get wet.

pull me ups might help.....try to put her a training period....explain you want to try for a few days something to see if it will help her ....point out the big girls wear panty's.....show her in the store some with her fav. cartoon on it ect....make a big deal...then tell her you want her to at least try to go when you put her on the potty ...only do this in awake hours....every hour then go to every two hours encourage her to at least try....ok if she does not do anything......at night use the pulls ups....allow her to feel very much grown...she may still have an occ. accident...try not to dwell on them, maybe she will train easyer then....most children i have ran into train between 2 to 3 yrs of age....but night time is another thing....so i would not push night time at all..smile...good luck....you both will see light soon...allway give praise for her getting to the small goals....and enjoy the shopping trip to pick out the new panty's...make a big deal out of your mommy daughter day...They were the greatest reward for my daughter...I allowed her to try them on once and see how nice they felt ect...and that was the reward once we got in the routine of going to the bathroom...then she began to recog. the signs on her own.....Mother of a four year old

Hey V.,
My daughter is almost 3 years old. Her older brother is almost 4. (1 yr & 3 weeks apart) Anyway, she's known what to do and has for a while now, but just didn't WANT to. Until this past week though, she went potty for her prek teacher at school! So this past weekend, she's been in her underwear & pullups. I think that if u are going to try to train her, u definitely have to cut out the diapers. Even though its okay for her to go in a pullup, it's a "big girl" thing. Besides the fact that pullups are easier for her, and you, to pull down and pull back up. I have this book that I used with my son and showed u how to tell them to pull their pants up and down. Hand in the front, hand in the back, and it's worked really well for both kids.

Anyway, if she wants to sit on the potty, I would let her. She'll figure it out. My Emma has had some pee accidents, but like I said, the pullups will help with that. She also likes to just sit there.. and she has also no problem in doing number two. Which is great!! Because I had the reverse problem with my son. He would pee okay, but not poopie. That was always an accident at first. So i'm thinking that this is still good..., I hope! She'll get the hang of going number one and getting to the potty in time, etc.. just happens in their time. But I would also try to make it fun as well. With Emma, we are doing stamps. Simple little stamps that wash off in the tub. But she LOVES it. Find something that your daughter loves and use that as encouragement. Like if you use the potty, you'll get a sticker or something. But I think deinitely rewarding her with something. Make it fun and get the pullups.

Anyway, hope this helps.
K.

I think it's harder for them to know they have to go #1 before it happens. It comes on quicker, I guess I'm saying. If your daughter is not even two yet, she just might not be at the point that her body makes her aware in time. I found pull ups to be useless. If I put them on my kids, they wouldn't hesitate to wet them. The only thing that worked was big boy/girl underwear and expect a few accidents. If she continues to wet herself when you do that, then you might need to consider that she's just not physically ready. I would let her sit on the potty all she wants to. It's new, she's still figuring it out...

I don't think there's a steadfast rule on potty training. Every child seems to be very different. If you are sending her to a private school or children's program where it is required by a certain age, then you probably have an urgent need and could try the naked approach (which usually works better during the summer or winter holiday break). Positive praise is the best you can do (yes, I know you've heard this time and again from everybody under the sun...easier said than done sometimes). My youngest is 2.5 and she's interested 50% of the time. She has done both #1 & #2 when she feels like it... For my older two boys - now 6 and 4 - it was like a lightbulb. They went every now and then without any sort of pattern, rhyme or reason. Then, sure enough, they clicked over to wanting to go to the potty full-time. All I did was stand by the potty asking if they wanted to go to the potty (5 - 6) times a day: first thing in the morning, after each meal and before bed time. I did it consistently until they decided it was the right time...right about when both boys were 2.5 yrs old as well. I never pushed. Some parents do and have success doing so. Every family unit and child's personality is unique, so best of luck! I bet it will happen when you're not even thinking about it - isn't that the way things go?

I am not sure how old your daughter is. I have 2 daughters that are 6 and 5 so I have been through the potty training with them. I pushed my oldest daughter and caused her to regress. The best thing that I did and that worked with both of them was I got a potty video and I played it and they loved it. Then I put their training potty in front of the TV. They wanted to sit on it during the video and it soon came that they would go every time the video was on. For about a week, we watched the video all the time and they finally learned how to control their going. Anyway, that is what worked for me. It takes a lot of patience, staying home, and not pushing them.

I started training my daughter at 2 years and 3 months. When I decided to go for it I went all the way. For a few days when she was trying to learn how everything feels I had her run around naked. Well maybe a top or short dress but no bottoms. The first day we had several accidents but by the second day we only had a few. After that it went to maybe one a day. She went straight from diapers to panties because I have heard the pull ups can confuse the issue. They pretty much feel like a diaper. I would also give an m&m or something each time she went potty on the toilet. A little reward for being such a big girl. The trick is getting her to do it that first time lol. I found right after nap was the best time to "catch" them. My daughter is now 2.5 and we have very few accidents. Mostly when we don't get to the potty quick enough to poop.

Good luck!!! It is a fun and interesting journey.

My daughter was like yours is totally backwards from what the "norm".
I would move her to underpants at home and pull ups when out and about. For potty training we used M&Ms as treats one for peeing and 2 for poop. and let her sit on the potty all she wants, she might accidently pee while shes sitting there. and put her on a timer where she gets to run to the potty all on her own.If wet underpants dont bother her let her go naked from the waist down when you are at home. when she goes on the floor make her help clean it up. When she goes in the potty make a BIG deal about it.
Good luck

V.,
i think you are stressing out before you need to. your daughter isn't even two yet. i have two boys, (7 and 10) and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. she is almost potty trained, and i have her in pull ups. the boys were closer to three before they were completely trained..one used the pullups, one i did cold turkey...it was quicker, but more painful! my daughter preferred at the beginning to use the small potty instead of ours...she would even go in there herself and do her business and call me when she was finished..now that she can climb up by herself, she uses ours...the only problem with pull ups, is that the accidents don't bother them as much as if they were in panties. if you are in a hurry to train her, then i suggest you plan to stay home for a long weekend, and put her in panties...and after an accident or two, she'll tell you before it's too late. the hard part is over, if she'll go #2...the pee just may not bother her so much (esp. in diapers). remember, that if she's not even two yet, she may just not be completely ready...sometimes they say to back off for a few weeks, and then try again...maybe only bring her when she asks you to, and wait a while for the rest...she'll do it eventually..good luck!

You daughter will eventually figure it out in her own time, don't force it. Try to get her to sit on the potty at regular times, before you leave the house, before breakfast, lunch, dinner, before giving her another drink, before bedtime. Try rewarding her with one m&m everytime she goes to encourge her good behavior(assuming she can eat them). Another suggestion is to let her run around with no diaper until she tells you she has to go. She will feel the need to put it someplace, and hopefully that will be in the potty. Hope this helps.

Hi V., My name is J. and I have a 4 yro boy. My advice would be to try big girl underwear. No pull-up they are just like a diaper. My son was confused with the pull-up until I put big boy underwear on him. He was potty trained by the time he was 2. I hope that this can help you and your daughter out.

i will tell you what i did with my son. when he was 3 i put him in pull-ups and then eventually went to underwear. I made a big deal out of big boy underwear and eventually he got use to it. he would tell me that it itched him and lets face it, underwear has a different feel for children. We made a potty chart together and he got a sticker if he went and if he didn't, we would start all over with the stickers. he would get 5 stickers in a row and we would go get a thomas train from target. this worked at the beginning then he didn't care after he got the train, so I took him to the store and he picked out a toy and we went home with it. It was a toy he wanted for a long time and so he was really excited about it! I explained to him that if he could go to the potty for two weeks straight without a accident he could open the toy, if not we would take the toy back. I sat the toy right on the counter in the bathroom as a reminder of "our deal" and it worked b/c he got in the habit of telling me he had to go and he was able to have the toy. so we both won! try it..i hear girls are trained alot earlier than boys and is easier. so good luck!

My DD (28 months on the 10th) did the same thing. We worked on her sitting on the potty and she would get a treat (M&M) if she went potty. I still had her in diapers b/c I feel that pull-ups are too confusing for children. Anyways, she would always go poop on the potty for about 2 months now. Last Thursday she told me that she wanted to start wearing panties and not diapers. I explaned to her that she would need to go tee-tee on the potty if she is going to wear panties. She said ok and we put her in them. That was 5 days ago and she has only had 2 accidents since then and she is in panties! I think you are doing the right thing, just keep with it and she will get it when she is ready! Good luck and happy training!!!
