I had a tual in 2007 and ever since I have had heavy but regular periods. Up to now...I am 1 week late and and my brests were sore last week making me think I would be getting my period soon...but nothing has come. Is it possible to get pregnant after a tubal and if so can the baby be carried to term or are there complications?

Hi A.,
Yes it is possible. A friend of mine has just giving birth to a baby conceived after a tubal ligation. No complications that I have heard of.

Oh yes, it is definitely possible - happened to me. I had my tubes tied the first time and the second time they cut and cauterized. Make sure if a pregnancy test comes up positive that you go to the doc asap - with tubal ligations, your chance of ectopic pregnancy goes up and they will want to rule that out.

Yes you could still get pregnant. One of the complications with getting pregnant after a tubal could be an ecptopic pregnancy (when the fertilized eggs lays on one of your fallopian tubes). Ectopic pregnancies are very painful.
Get a pregnancy test or go see your Doctor.

Good luck,
Elisa

I is possible, but more often than not it becomes a tubal pregnancy, in which the choice is either you or the baby. I would take a test and make an apt. to see you OB/GYN. If you are preggo, they should be able to do an ultrasound to figure out what's up.

yes you can get pregnant after a tubal, I've seen plenty of them. It's also very common to have an ectopic pregnancy after a tubal. If you think you might be pregnant you need to take a pregnancy test ASAP and if it's + make an appt ASAP to make sure that you are not having an ectopic. It is possible to have a normal healthy pregnancy following a tubal as long as the baby implants in the uterus like it's supposed to.
Don't delay finding out though b/c if you have a ruptured ectopic you can have very bad complications.

Everything is possible - even after having a tubal. It's possible the procedure wasn't completed properly.

Take an OTC pregnancy test and if it's positive make an appointment ASAP.

If you are not pregnant, you might want to talk to your dr about some of the newer sterilization techniques available.

There is a 1 in 300 chance that you can still get pregnant after your tubes being tied. Yes if you are pregnant there is a chance a a tubal pregnancy which they can sometimes have reattached, but sometimes they can not and it doesn't make it. Hopefully your cycle was just thrown off some by another female's cycle around you. I've had my tubes tied for 8 years now, and for the longest time I was right on target for when I started. Now it seems that if I'm around a new group of females or more often around one specific female, my cycle tends to try to match theirs and I get a little off here and there. I would just get a test if you haven't start in the next week.

YES! It is possible. I have met several women who had post tubal pregnancies. My grandmother got pregnant years after her tubal and went on to have several more children!

As was said, most post tubal ligation pregnancies are sadly are tubal pregnancies and the babies are taken, sometimes along with the tube. Oh, and tubal pregnancies don't have the same hormone increases as a regular pregnancy so you could be pregnant and yet test negative.

please update, I'll check back here.

I had a tubal in July of 2007 and my periods have been extremely heavy since I stopped nursing in May of 08. Then all of a sudden about two months ago, I was late and I thought the same thing. My Dr. had warned me that I had a 1% chance of getting pregnant and if I did, it would more than likely be an ectopic pregnancy and that If I ever suspected that I was pregnant then I needed to go see him to check. However, I waited long enough that I did get my period, but it was very light and and it lingered for about 1 1/2 weeks(which I am not sure which is worse, having a light period for two weeks or a heavy one for a couple of days) anyway, if you think you might be pregnant, you might call the dr. I did have a friend that I worked with that that had a tubal and she got pregnant and had a successful pregnancy so I guess it depends on the person. Good Luck.
