Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation? Boyfriend Also Had a Vasectomy...

Why am I even on here asking this question right now? Well, I heard that this is an awesome website to get feedback from mamas (and dads? (: ) I had a tubal ligation in 2012 because I have severe heart problems (SVT) and it caused a huge amount of strain on my 4th pregnancy I almost had 2 heart attacks in my 36th week... at that point I realized that risking my health is no longer worth it, and took advice from my Obstetrician and Electrophysiologist and got my tubes clamped. So here we are, a little over 2 years down the road and sitting here completely nauseous asking for advice.. I missed my period on the 2nd which was odd because it is always on time like down to the hour, so I blew that off and said whatever and continued to wait. It still hasn't come. Then about 2 days later my breasts start throbbing, not the normal uncomfortable ache, I mean an all out throb, and then my breasts started leaking colostrum which is totally normal for me this early, IF I'M PREGNANT. I've been waking up the last 3 mornings with a serious wave of nausea and toward the evening my stomach cramps up so bad I can barely stand. I've taken 1 pregnancy test the day after I missed my period and that came back negative, I haven't done another. My boyfriend also had a vasectomy last year. Am I over thinking? Any opinion and ideas would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance! :)

What can I do next?

Wow, sounds like you have had a lot of stress the past few days, so sorry. Let me just get right to the point - you need to get in to see a doctor now.

There are a lot of symptoms, and questions resulting from them, that we really can't speak to on this board. Many of your symptoms can point to pregnancy, but realistically that is not what is happening. There is a difference between whether it is -possible- you are pregnant, which you could be since you still have your uterus & have not gone through menopause, and whether it is -likely- you are pregnant, which you probably are not, since both you & your partner have taken measures to prevent this.

However, just because certain symptoms occur when pregnant, doesn't mean that they couldn't also point to another, different condition. You may be going through signs of perimenopause, other hormonal imbalances, or tumor growths (which can cause symptoms even when benign).

So the best advice any of us can give you on this board is to make an appointment to see your doctor. Let them know the symptoms have escalated in the past few days, & make sure you get a full work-up done.

In the meantime, for your own peace of mind, you can take another HPT. I've heard the ones @ the Dollar stores are highly regarded & quite accurate.

Best of luck to you, hope you are feeling better soon! T. :)

With your medical history of heart problems, stress is not something that you need right now. Call your doctor and get a pregnancy test to settle that issue and then some additional testing to find out what is causing all of your symptoms. It could be hormonal or be caused by other serious health issues. The stress could also be adding to your symptoms. Find out now - Good luck!

You have two choices...take a Home Pregnancy test or GO to the doctor and get a blood test done..

With Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), you don't mess around with your heart.

Go to your doctor and get a blood test.TODAY....

Normally I suggest that women with symptoms but a negative test just wait a little. But in your case with a history of SVT, I think you need stress even less than the rest of us. I know it's Friday, but I'd see if you can get a blood test (not sure how long it will take to get results). The longer you sweat this out, the worse it is for you.

Don't question your sterilization method right now. There are so many reasons for the causes of your symptoms, most of them not pregnancy or anything dire. I won't be cruel enough to tell you to relax, because I know you can't. But usually, hormonal changes can cause these issues. And cramping can come from a late period especially one in which ovulation did not occur.

Also, do you have any shoulder pain at all? If you do, get to the ER right away. Ectopic pregnancies, which not viable in any way, usually in the Fallopinan tube but can be elsewhere besides the uterus, cause pressure on the phrenic nerve and refer pain to the shoulder. This is an emergency situation similar to an enlarged and inflamed appendix. So don't fool around with that. Call your doctor.

Nope you aren't over thinking this you are under reacting to this. You need to call your doctor. If you aren't pregnant then it could be hormone related or something else. Won't know until you see a doctor so make the call and get in there.

See a doctor and get a blood test.
If you are confirmed not to be pregnant, you still really need to figure out what is causing your symptoms.
Some sort of hormonal imbalance probably but you want to make sure it's nothing serious like cancer, etc.

Call your doctor and get in for a pregnancy test.

DO NOT wait on this.

You don't have the luxury of just waiting it out. Find out so you can do what needs to be done.

We can discuss failure rates of tubal ligation and vasectomies at another time.
